The Horror Is Alive
... with a ripping function. It also has to be able to play and rip both vinyls and cassettes. Any ideas for good ones that you know about? Edited August 31, 2009 by The Horror Is Alive

The Horror Is Alive
Thanks for the link I doubt pawnshops would have anything I want. Cairns is a sh*thole for pawn-shops.
asimov
It probably won't be cheap. Try looking at a 2nd hand DJ's turntable. They always have several different outputs that jack into computers. keep an eye out for technics and stanton's.
Moonshield
This is mine: http://www.numark.com/ttusb. It's a pretty decent turntable on its own, but it's got a usb interface so you can rip vinyls directly to your computer. You'd need an amp for it though, and a tape deck if you wanted to rip cassettes too. However, you could probably run any ordinary turntable through your amp and run that into your audio input to your computer as long as you had a sound recording program. Slamman
Holy Smokes, USB interface? I thought Linear Tracking with my track programming PER SIDE was State of the Art!! Bang and Olufson look out! Funny as well, I am selling at least one on Craig's List and the buyer had the same model I was selling, the Yammy P-300!
trip
I know 2 people that picked up usb turn tables for ripping needs. I've done it using my regular turn table routed through an amp and then into my line in on my sound card. I hear those usb ones are not cheap. If you are just doing a one time dump of your vinyl you may be able to save some bucks by picking up a cheap turn table at a yard sale or whatever. A little note about ripping vinyl - it takes a mighty long time since it is all real time. Slamman
I get digital audio from my linear tracking RCA model by it's routed output via a 1980s JVC slim receiver and that units' stereo headphone jack adapted down to a mini patch cable to my MiniDisc player's Mic and Aux inputs. Then I have ATRAC compressed digital, just as good as MP3, as far as I can discern, and I have been a skeptic in the past. However, I use MiniDiscs all the time, in fact. Still very good record and playback devices and the discs seem to last forever, unless they get terminally dusty! Anyway, my older STEREO turntables are FAR, far less in cost, about $35 bucks if you're in the Midwest of course! You don't need the World's Best or NEW turntable to get outstanding analog, a good cartridge and needle and maintained RPMs are about it. The amp is more critical. Back in the day however, Wow and Flutter are the keys to turntable performance...the warble factor. I have an old 45 for testing the performance with different frequency bands as audio tests! Haha, that's no problem, because when I buy a vinyl, I usually love the music that's on it Yeah, I don't think there's a USB vinyl/tape player out there. I think I might just get a USB turntable first, then hook up a tape deck through the auxilary on it. Thanks for all your help guys!
