ShotSkydiver
I just finished installing the RTM version of Windows 7 x64, and I'm trying to install GTA IV. Whenever I click on the setup, a message pops up that says "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running." I've tried running it in compatibility mode, with no luck. This error message also pops up when I try to install NFS Undercover. Why is this happening? I tried Googling "Windows 7 GTA IV x64", but everyone I've seen has been able to install it just fine. Why will it not work for me? Has anyone else gotten this error message? nightwalker83
I'm not sure if this is of any help: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=421137?
ShotSkydiver
I just reformatted my hard drive and installed Windows 7 32-bit, and it still won't work. Except this time, when I run the setup, a command prompt flashes for one second then disappears. Nothing else happens after that. No errors, nothing. Compatibility mode does the same thing. Tried installing vcredist_x86, does the same thing. Why is this not working?!? I've gotten IV to work on 7 before with the same disc, why won't it work now? DELETEDUSER
When using win 7, i think u must open the install file IN XP COMPTAIBILITY MODE. Try the 64 bit version
lowridincrew
Run it in Windows Vista Or XP Compatability mode I got 32 bit
mkey82
Yes, *sometimes* you need to set the compatibility mode on the setup.exe, but I don't think this should be the case with W7 RTM.

JohnZS
GTA IV installs fine here on Windows 7 RC x64 Perhaps it is a x86 version issue? I have the genuine retail 2 DVD version of GTA IV
SLAYERMAGGOT
No, i don't think it is an x86 issue, because x64 OS's also support x86 apps as well. And that error message sound weird to me, can you take a screen of this error?

Nillus
I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (RTM) and the game installed without problems, however the autorun screen when you put the disc in had 'chinese' characters for me, just like on Vista Ultimate x64 SP1. For me GTA IV works fine on Windows 7 x64. But you can put the compatibility mode to "VISTA SP1"
ShotSkydiver
Fixed it. Just had to use my original discs. I had copied my game into two ISO files, and for some reason it wouldn't install through those. Windows 7 has horrible ISO mounting support. I've tried every program and they all don't work. mkey82
Windows 7 has horrible ISO mounting support. This is probably a Securom issue.

Virtual Clone Drive has a Windows 7 version that works really well but as stated before, your issue was most likely Securom related.
