EncryptedReality
So ive played GTA IV a lot on PC recently and i noticed some railroads that are destroyed , and look very old , could they be the LC (III) leftovers? Plus there are some roads that lead to nowhere. And also i know Rockstar mentioned that it isnt the same universe numerous times , but still it mistifyes me. You can find an example of that railroad next to the Pay'N'Spray in Ivy Drive South Edited August 29, 2009 by GTARandom RJX74
Magic_Al
They're just showing that Liberty City is old and stuff gets abandoned. As for III, think parallel universes where some things are similar.
xrk
i know Rockstar mentioned that it isnt the same universe numerous times , but still it mistifyes me. Do you think its some sort of conspiracy? I dont understand why people cant just accept it. RJX74
JonnyVercetti
Theres an old abandoned mansion with a beach down the little hill next to it. I think it's a reference to Salvatores mansion in III.
RJX74
I believe it is based on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Line_(New_York_City).
Feral Slug
Theres an old abandoned mansion with a beach down the little hill next to it. I think it's a reference to Salvatores mansion in III. but it's not at the top of a huge hill with a ramp at the bottom.

Tell me how it even resembles Salvatore's mansion. I thought about that too but there is absolutely no way thats Salvatore's mansion.

Magic_Al
If it's an alternate universe it can be Salvatore's mansion without being the same. Like Starbuck is a woman in the newer Battlestar Galactica but a dude in the old one. It can even be a mansion belonging to some guy not named Salvatore who some guy not named Claude did missions for in a game not named Grand Theft Auto III in a year that wasn't 2001. It can be whatever you want as long as the game doesn't contradict what you think.
Mr. Someguy
I still say that GTA3 LC is real and GTA4 LC is off the coast from it. I just can't let go, GTA3 LC had a feeling that no other city in any other game had. A feeling that was unique, known only to itself. Not even GTA4 had that. DrAnomalous
A mansion that once belonged to a mob boss must be a reference to Salvatore's old house. . . bah
GTA_getaway_driver
Its called development and modernization. Things get old and new stuff needs to come so the old stuff it abandoned and newer, better things are built over/near them.
Leo Colt
It's reimagined. It's the same universe, completely reimagined, with most of the older stuff just being conveniently not mentioned or left out. It's hard to explain how this works. Sure, that mansion may not actually look anything at all like Salvatore's mansion, other than the driveway, but it's supposed to represent it, and the fact that it is dilapidated and abandoned because he died and his mafia evidently fell apart. You could say in this reimagined universe, Sal was based and operated out of Alderney. All the old events happened, but in the reimagined universe they would have happened in a different way that fits the new laws of this universe.
