the lovely retro interiour

What has been done:

*stripped the complete car

*replaced all wiring

*removed all windows

*removed all rust, welded all holes shut. including holes from badges, antenna etc

*shaved front and back, removed bumbers

*applied 3 coats of flat black paint

*replaced al window rubbers

*replaced interiour

*coated the rims and put on whitewall tires

what still needs to be done:

*replace front and rear suspension for stiffer ones

*weld a new exhaust (+ manifold)

*replace brakelines

*BUY NEW RIMS

hope you like it..

Wow, nice theme. Did you actually get white-walls or did you spray-paint the original tyre?

well i found a company that sells rubber inserts you can stick in between the rim and tire, if you glue it with contact glue, they will melt together. Saved me about 400 euros smile.gif. With the speed i use profile on my tires, i went for the cheap version.

If i get my new rims, ill get proper whitewalls.

Looks pretty sweet. Gotta love those old Minis. Don't think the whitewalls really go with a Mini though. What wheels will you look at getting? 10" Cosmics or Minilites (or similar 8 spoke)? Or something cheap?

I say get 10" Starmags and spray them black, and then get some nice chunky tyres. I dont think white walls really fit the car to be honest:

I also think your mini would look really great with a chrome Mk.1 gril, your mk 4 grill with the surround sprayed black looks a tiny bit tacky I think:

Apart from that it's a really nice mini. Gotta love matt black. smile.gif

1. Drop the rear seats, and put a decent stereo in. Not some "gangsta" sh*t with 47 subs, just two 12" subs, two 6-9" inch rears, and two 6" fronts all rounding out around $300-400usd

2. Get two decent front buckets. Go racing style if you want, but I would shoot for VW Golf Mk. I Recaro seats.

3. Get a decent set of rims, (maybe those ones Starion suggested), paint the spokes of the rim flat black while leaving the lip nice and shiny.

4. Get the Mini Cooper grill and give it the same treatment as the rims. leave the outer rim shiny and paint all the slats flat black.

5. Grant GT steering wheel.

6. Shiny gas cap. I usually hate the shiny chrome style fake gas cap...but you have a exposed, one piece filler cap. Make it shine.

My 2 cents: Retro is a no. Sure its an old car, but if you want to go retro, roll on tall white walls, and all that cool jazz, get a 49 Merc. You are driving a little go-cart. Get a decent set of rims around the 13" range and get a set of nice lower profile tires. Sure Lurch's idea is nice, but getting a nice set of 13" minilite replica's. They aren't expensive, and they can look amazing.

Apparently 13" wheels are supposed to make a pretty big difference to the cars handling when compared to 10" wheels. Most mini enthusiasts much prefer the 10" to the 13" wheels.

So just get some nice 10" starmags with some wide chunky tyres, it'd be awesome.

My advice.....Don't listen to anything this guy said...except the tip about the shiny gas cap.

Also, starmags looks like sh*t. tounge.gif

Ok...f*ck you. You can't even give advice because you killed your Beetle in the process of trying to mod/tune/f*ck it. At least I can work on my personal vehicles and they still run tounge.gif

The 13" starmags look pretty awful, but some nice sharp 10" ones would look pretty great.

well suggesting is free so np smile.gif

about the grill. yeah ill put a mk1 in. was planning to, but the whole overhaul did cost me a lot of money.. same goes for the gascap and other small exteriour parts. They all can be switched in 5 minutes.

rims: well 13 on a mini is too big imo. i want to roll 10's but i have to switch my discbrakes to drums. and i want to live tounge.gif so i keep it on 12s. i dont know if ill put deepdish rims on it. i might widen the ones i have by welding a extra piece of steel to em and put moon discs or small chrome caps on them.

stereo and interiour, i am going to put a small stereo with small speakers in the dash. i dont listen to music while driving a lot.. The interiour will remain the same. no recaros, and the backseat will stay.. gotta put my stuff somewhere right? The seats have been restuffed and sit pretty well, plus the car looks great without the headrests I also put in a 10" steeringwheel yesterday.

About the retro being a no, well everyones cup of tea right. I got some really cool reactions on it. Its something different, it works on a vw bug, works on a mini as well imo.

Weren't old cooper S disc made to fit 10's? I think it actually had the record for smallest disc brakes on a car ever made. If you lost the backseat it would free up even more space to throw junk. That's what I did with my bug.

Two 12" subs in the back of an old Mini is going to sound terrible. They rattle enough without constant reverberation going through them.

Also, how it two subs, two 6x9's and two 6's a ballanced, "un-gangsta" stereo? It's still got too much bass. comparitively f*ck all midrange and literally no trebble.

Minilites are a must for a classic mini.

Needs some cooper works arches too!

Minilites are a must for a classic mini.

The truth there.

Also, ditch the whitewalls, it looks a bit weird really.

And definitely dont get silly big 13" wheels or anything, because you will ruin the handling. If you want new brakes and/or engine, buy a scrapper mini metro, and strip it (there was even a 1.3 turbo! lol).

Nice car, I find minilites to be overused, not bad, but every mini has them!

I really like Cosmics on a Mini, they look good, and period.
