Drunk Russian 9
There is an acceleration helper in GTA IV, which helps you when you floor it by reducing the throttle by 25% I estimate. This was developed for the casual people playing GTA IV, however as a racing enthusiast it bothers me. I'd like to know if anyone has any idea of how to remove it. It makes drifting harder, launching slower, and burnouts nearly impossible. I'd be very thankful if someone pointed me in the right direction. EDIT: "drive"\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\data\effects\vehicleFX seems to have something like it. Maybe you guys can take a look at it? ICdevil
What controller are you using to play gta (keyboard, gamepad, wheel) ?
Rob.Zombie
There's no such thing as acceleration helper. Normal GTA cars are crap and simply doesn't accelerate realistic. Download a drift mod for drifting and realistic driving for realistic cars.

The acceleration helper is there, I'm positive. I'm using a 360 controller.
rastakilla
Would somebody post the freakin handling files already for it?? I want it too. So i can do burnouts.
Rob.Zombie
Here's one drift handling: 1400.0 1.0 85 0.0 0.1 -0.1 0.0 5 0.37 1.0 200.0 0.23 0.65 1.0 50.0 0.85 0.89 13.5 0.15 0.48 1.8 1.1 1.1 0.15 -0.14 0.0 0.5 2.0 0.3 2.2 1.5 0.0 14000 440000 0 0 And I think your problem with the 360 controller is that you don't floor it. Unfortunately with keyboard we always floor the car, so we have to play with the "gas pedal" (actually 1 button)
rastakilla
No he doesnt mean that. What he means is that when you floor the car from a stop even with keyboard or 360 Ctrl Its like some kinda traction control on, which wont let you do a rolling burnout or accelerate as hard and spin tires as a car would. bio88
He means that a car is not always revving all the way out! Some cars just gently hum when you burn them.
ikt
The automatic shifting in GTA IV sucks. Wait for a manual-shifting mod or something like that.
logitec2777
if u add a speedometer with rpm meter u will see that the cars accelerate "gently". i know, it sucks.

Yeah, it annoys the hell out of me. Does anyone know if it's a scripting thing or a value in a file?
Rob.Zombie
Well I could always do a burnout with realistic driving mod. If that doesn't work, just hold the handbrake floor the car, then release the handbreak. If there's still no burnouts, well then there's something wrong with the handling. Anyway I could perform a rolling burnout with every car from realistic driving, even the bus, so I don't really get your problem. And maybe, killatomate made the cars to have ASR, who knows. ikt
Niko just can't handle cars. I think he's drives other things better.

I didn't say a burnout is impossible with modded handling. I said a burnout is nearly impossible with stock handling. Simply because of the acceleration helper. When you floor it, the car's wheels should smoke. Loosening grip values(in vehicle FX) is step one in, but the car still revs gently. Even with killatomate's handling the cars rev slowly. This is what I'm looking to fix . . . a Skyline shouldn't have the same acceleration feeling as my Acura.
