I was there before GTArv and others joined. Me, Scarface, Damien and some other randomers.

Had to quit because of too much crashing. Crashed like +5 times. mad.gif

So let's see...

 

I'm currently fixing up the "Snertserv Race Script" (Snertserv was kind of the name I had given it for a while, needs a new name but meh) for the meet on Saturday. Not sure if it'll be done by then, but I'll see how far I can get.

 

For the first (playable) release of this script, expect these features:

  • A begin screen just like the Demolition Derby one.
  • A quite basic, yet fancy looking, vehicle selection
  • An a bit less basic colorselection, which I kind of need to finish by adding carmods and paintjobs, but that's for later
  • No checkpoint markers like in normal MTA Race gamemode. Since it's a track, you don't need these to know where you should go
  • A lap system. Not extremely facinating, but well, it still is an advantage for map makers compared to normal MTA Race.
  • Only 1 map so far. Just like the DD, I'm first trying to make a "playable" release. Therefore, I'll need to sacrifice some features (i.e. teams, multi-map compatibility etc) for making sure there are less things that can contain bugs. (as I kind of need these meets to really test the scripts)
I'm also trying to find some time for finishing the DD etc, but well, pressure's coming for me from all directions possible and I kind of need some time for myself due to that too. I surely hope to finish the race thing in time though, as I've been working on it for quite some time now and would really like to see it finished. (Surely, it's also so you guys can have some more fun on the server. Why else would I make it in the first place? wink.gif )

Good choice for the Elegy!

I'm very keen to play this, but it is at such a strange time for me i have forgotten the last 3 weeks!

It might just be me, but does anyone else really not like the Comet replacement?

Probably just my ridiculous hatred for Honda's but it should've been a newer/updated Porsche, such as a Carrera 911 or Cayman.

Well the server's download is currently ~70MB but with the server's 100Mbps connection it will only take a few seconds/minute depending on your connection.

Hehe, thanks. tounge.gif And yes, I also think it would be cooler with a lot of players.

 

Just a small progress report on the race mode: It's now playable. Which means it's fairly much done for tomorrow's meet. smile.gif

 

There's still plenty to do to make it a really good race mode, but it's on it's way.

 

Also some other small fixes have been done to Snertserv itself. You can now warp to/out of activities whilst being inside a vehicle. Why the vehicle check was there in the first place is a slightly technical story, so I won't bother you guys with it, but I can tell I could have removed it long ago.

 

Now also scripts can be ended properly if you disconnect from the server or the resource is restarted. This seemed to be particularly noticeable at Scar's server today, I've heard... hehe.

Question for you guys

 

The vehicle selection system has existed for quite some time by now. But since the first second I wasn't exactly satisfied with the vehicles being showcased, and was particularly unsure of what others would think. So this brings me to the following question: Which vehicles should be usable during the race? The current list is:

  • Turismo
  • Cheetah
  • Elegy
  • Sultan
  • Hotring Racer
  • Dumper (the large dump truck. This one was only meant for testing the camera system and is too big to even pass through the checkpoints on the only map so far tounge.gif)
As the Dumper and other large vehicles don't fit through several points of the map, so those shouldn't really be added. Also keep in mind that it would be a good idea to make a selection of cars which can drive at quite equal speeds. Otherwise, the ones which drive faster should have other disadvantage (i.e. poor steering) as a result, and vice versa. (meaning bye bye @ the Turismo) Also, I guess it would just be nice to add some of the custom model cars Scar just mentioned, to make sure it's not such a waste of the download. rolleyes.gif

 

(Note: The current spot where the vehicles are being showcased can hold a maximum of ± 12 - 17 cars)

Question for you guys

 

As you all know there are going to be many mini-game competitions and I was wondering how you felt if some of these events will be held on another day since in the future we may not have enough time for them in one meet.

 

Also, please don't hesitate to request any feature suggesting or ask about problems that are occurring for you, both MTA and the server itself.

I was thinking of having a selection of race types like Sport, Exotic, Muscle etc. similar to IV's MP structure per race, so if everyone votes for muscle, then everyone has a selection of muscle cars only. Though bare in mind that the vehicle selection, let's say Sport, must include balanced vehicles to reduce the amount of unfair advantages between players.

There's not enough time for editing the script anymore for changing this kind of things. In fact, I don't know if I have time to change the selectable vehicles at all. I'll be off in the evening and it's questionable when I'll be back. (By tomorrow at max, probably tounge.gif) (Oh, I do have time to remove the dumper though)

 

I'll just try to finish up some stuff and I guess that would be that.

 

EDIT: Hmm, almost forgot I only mapped the first 4 spawnpoints so far, which would mean a max of 4 players. I'll try to fix this real quick.

Well the meet is at 2PM GMT+1 tomorrow but we could always pros pone the actual competition and play the mini-games for fun.

Well, the amount of players able to play has now basically gone like this:

 

0 -> 4 -> (oops, still need to make more spawns) -> 8 -> (oops, no more time left) -> (hey, still got some time left) -> 20

 

Anyhow, this *should* mean it's ready for tomorrow's meet. So there should be more to do tomorrow than... Well... Ever before on the server..?

 

In the meantime, I'd like to ask you guys some stuff:

Requests

  • I'd like to hear your comments on the HUD (Heads-Up-Display) of the race "minigame". Meaning what's drawn on screen and in what way. (This would include vehicle selection etc) What it misses, what is really good about it, what could be better and... Perhaps something I missed.
  • I would also like to hear about missing features itself. (i.e. modding of the car and saving the car for next time) There's much to do about it, you possibly can't deny that, and I would just like to have a big list of things I'd need to add.
  • The vehicles available for selection. See my previous post.
  • Implementation of "Ghostmode" for the Race mode. (I think we need to have a few races before deciding about this)
  • Good maps for the mode. (custom modelled or not doesn't matter I guess?)
  • General thoughts/comments about the Demolition Derby
  • Ideas for new mini-modes.
  • Ideas on the "activities system". (the "A" buttons on the F11 map, which are used to join the minimodes)
  • General other ideas/bug reports/discussions/off-topic chatter
I know, I know... It seems like I'm asking you guys to do everything for us, but I prefer democracy above dictators anyway. colgate.gif (but hey, this is another point you can comment about if you like)

 

So anyway, discuss it all here after (or before, also possible if you like) the meet tomorrow at 1PM GMT.

I think everyone should have the same vehicle. That way there wont be any advatnage/disadvantage.

 

And the voting should be vehicle based, not class based like in IV.

 

For example if majority voted for a drift race everyone gets an Elegy. If they voted for a bike race everyon get´s an NRG-500. Some other vehicles could be Go Kart and Turismo.. and obviously some others that i cant think of right now.

Meet was awesome. We raced a lot on Laguna Seca an were were around 11 players on the server. The racing was very competitive and at times we were 6 in a race. Hopefully the race mini-game will be ready for the next meet.

1.0.2 has just been released! (Well, last evening)

 

 

The next point release for our best mod to date is out: Multi Theft Auto: San Andreas 1.0.2. One of our developers, ccw, did a tremendous job with resolving the most frequent problems and bugs from earlier releases. Major changes are fixes for a number of occasional crashes and assertions plus some improvements for our race gamemode, as part of the multitheftauto-resources project. As always, the full list of changes can be found in the Changelog on our repository.

 

This release is of course fully compatible with the servers running on older versions (1.0 / 1.0.1), so there should be no problems with compatibility once you upgrade.

It should be noted that 1.0 will soon not be allowed in the server anymore. Only 1.0.1 and 1.0.2. There are several reasons for this:

 

  • 1.0 isn't as "fully compatible" as noted in the quote above this
  • 1.0 uses another system for sync than 1.0.1 and 1.0.2
  • 1.0 misses quite some features compared to 1.0.1 in terms of scripting. I *might* add a *capability* to enable Ghostmode in the race minimode sometime. For this, and for this to work really well, we kind of need a minimum of MTA 1.0.1. Although the function that would be in use is improved in 1.0.2.
  • There's actually not much point in staying with 1.0 with a newer version released, in my opinion

In fact 1.0 was supposed to be disallowed from the server for longer, especially because of reason #2. But the kick system in use didn't exactly work. (technical story) Now, since 1.0.2 there's a different system which we'll use. Instead of letting you join, check if your version is 1.0 and kick you again, we can simply refuse the connection. Much cleaner. Just to clear up this fact.

For installing 1.0.2, you might need to update your DirectX files to the most recent version. (dating from August this year) For your convenience, the download link is right here:

Got some suggestion about the cars:

 

- The "Viper" car is not a viper, it's a Nissan Silvia. (pic) tounge.gif

- Some cars like the Skyline could get better models, since the one that is currently in the server has some bugs in the backlights and lighting.

- Race prepared cars for Race mode instead of the stock cars (and stock too).

- And as 860 suggested, the vehicle class would be choosed by voting. (eg: Racing cars, stock, bikes, etc).

 

 

I've chosen some models, I'll see what scarface thinks.

So I guess I'll just post up what has changed at the moment:

 

  • 'Features' resource is slowly being merged into Snertserv, allowing scripts to enable/disable it at any team. This means Boost and Vehjump can't be used in races and Destruction Derby anymore. (This might mean that at least the DD competitions *might* be held tomorrow)
  • Small cheats GUI. Testing script for some small technology I'm currently trying to develop. Easily accessible with the 'C' button. Rules out the need for typing or binding the cheats.
  • Vehicle GUI. Also a testing script for the same technology, but a bit more advanced. I'm trying to develop it to easily make you capable to do a number of things. (in development)
  • Changed the command to force a round start of DD a little, to make sure it doesn't conflict with race anymore. Previously it would cause DD to start without any players in it, essentially never stopping.

A little more info on the vehicle GUI:

 

Although it's not such a big deal of a feature, it does allow for some fun things in the future.

 

  • Engine state (on/off)
  • Lights state (on/off/auto)
  • Fix vehicle button
  • Lock state (locked/unlocked)
  • Headlight color changer [still to come]
  • Wheel states (inflated/flat/fallen off/collisionless) [still to come]
  • Collision manager - For making your own vehicle uncollidable with other vehicles [**]
  • Simple gastank manager - For making your own vehicle's gas tank explodable [**]
  • Damage proof option - For making your own vehicledamage proof [**]

( ** = Undecided )

 

As said before, this won't be such a great deal of a feature. However, could be fun and useful in quite some uses. (e.g. engine stalling after passing through water)

 

Oh btw, I might not be able to make it to tomorrow's meet. A friend of mine is celebrating his birthday and I guess I wouldn't really satisfy him by playing MTA rather than coming to his birthday. rolleyes.gif
