Guys on telephone poles?

I think it's bullsh*t. Never in the year and a half of playing IV have I seen guys on telephone poles. I've seen postmen but so many people claim to have seen guys on poles, for example outside the Bohan safehouse. Is there actually any proof?

I remember they said that once in a preview of IV. It's totally bullsh*t, one of the first missions, you were supposed to climb up a telephone pole to get a view of the city. But that was utter crap. If someone says that, ignore them.

I don't believe it don't worry, unless someone can provide proof. I remember one of the previews speaking about Niko being able to climb up the poles (still have the mag in fact) but it was apparently pulled out.

No. it was not a mission. It was the first time R* was showing off GTA IV. 15 minute walk around Liberty City. During that 15 minute walk the R* guy climbed a telephone pole and walked up to a bus stop where either a button to view a schedule popped up or the schedule it self popped up. Both were taken out. Not sure why.

 

Also I kinda believe the people who saw people in telephone poles but how hard is it to pause the game, get a camera and take a picture?

I think its true cause i saw a man getting a tool or something but he was crouched down in front of a pole and he started climbing it but before i realized what he was doing i shot him....typical player angst...but it was in alderney near honkers hope that helps

I saw a repair-man in the top of a telephone-pole on my second day playing GTA4, somewhere in Bohan, but after that I never saw one again and started to think I had just imagined it.

Then, about a year after the game launched, I encounterd one again . It's the same guy that crouches at the base, but he doesn't climb it, he either spawns at the top or the base afaik.

Either they are very uncommon or you just don't notice them.

Yes, I've seen the telephone pole repairman, too. They do exist, they just don't appear very often. I've only seen them a few times since I got the game. Them and the mailmen are pretty uncommon. In fact, I think I've seen the mailman only twice

Climbing telephone poles wouldn't have been useful unless you could use weapons from up there or somehow shimmy from pole to pole on power lines without getting fried. We know Niko can't shoot while climbing ladders so the feature seems removed for sheer uselessness. There sure are a lot of poles with the climbing hooks removed from the bottom around the city.

 

I can see Rockstar wanting to make the bus system operational and that would have been awesome. Only reason why it's cut I can think of is bad driving AI making the service unreliable, as we know riding a taxi sometimes fails and you have to skip. Trains don't have to deal with traffic. I supposed they could have cheated it by having the game switch to a different mode while Niko rode the bus, that would clear traffic out of the buses' route or something. Obviously they couldn't figure it out in time. It's like the car wash in San Andreas, unfinished business that will probably will show up in the next GTA no matter where it sits on any fans' missing-features list.

Why someone would post a video with a guy hanging on a telephone pole?

 

But there's a guy who fixes telephone and light poles. This one is fact, not some ratman bullsh*t.

 

What became a myth is that Niko was also supposed to climb telephone poles, but this feature was removed.

I only came across the person at the top of the telephone pole once and that was during one of my plays of the final mission (can't remember if it's Revenge or Deal). I was shooting the guys by the abandoned casino and all of a sudden I locked onto somebody at the top of a telephone pole. I shot him off. I definately want to see those guys again and experiment with them. I've never seen the postal guys before so maybe I should hang around northern Alderney more often.

I remember reading a GTA IV preview (magazine) in 2006/2007 where they claimed you could climb into telephone poles etc.

Never seen it in game.

Last week I saw a mailman. I saw him in Alderney at like 8:40 AM. So what do I normally do? I walk over to him and start a fight. He said something along the lines of "I've got a special delivery for you" or something like that.

Here in Bohan at Friday, 2pm.

I also approached him from the dock (east) to make him spawn.

i came in here to say the postman and the telephone wire repair man is real

 

they are rare just like the police sniper but they are there

 

sometimes you see the repair man on the sidewalk walkin around wit his tools

 

i wonder if they exsist on freemode

I've encountered the mailman once in Alderney City, but not the repairman.

 

Didn't know they existed til I went on this topic.

 

Talking of little details, I only just noticed the bells in Columbus Cathedral ring when they hit an hour.

I too have seen a telephone repair-man... started a topic asking about it on some forum.. cant remember which. But he too, was also in Bohan, about a block east of the half bridge, the one that ends mid air over the street, not the hidden jump x2 bridge ( if thats even in Bohan, cant remember offhand ).

 

Edit: Ill also add that I saw him while I was playing in TLaD and was wondering Wtf?

I finally found a Postman! I followed him to see if he actually did any rounds, he sneezed (Or bent over put his hands over his mouth and ran) Then stopped, so i shot him, unfortunately neer the South Algonquin Hospital, where around 6 Policemen Spawn. Awwww mmmaaannnn.
