how to make cars more varied in streets?

I've been dl'ing and using several fan made cars but I noticed that it somehow screwed the variation of cars in the streets sad.gif most noticeable is that I've seen entire street occupied only by taxis icon13.gif holy sh*t, yea lots of taxis!

 

or else, if I am using a car then suddenly people using the same cars as mine.....

 

that's ruining the experience

 

now I've been tried to use .ide editor, but TBH I don't know what parameters need to be changed?

 

for example

 

what is frequency, what does it mean if a car have 100 freq vs those who have 30?

 

I assumed that the bigger the number the more often that car will appear in streets, but in reality it's not, so many cars have 100 frequency but some of them rarely seen.

 

what is max number?

 

then what are those in flags? noboot, ext conv, isvan, truck firefx, etc I need the complete explanation about this.

 

then what is vehicle shares?

 

I just want a more reasonable and varied cars in the streets.

 

please help me

Well, if I have see good the hierarchy of car parts, there are extras on cars like in GTA SA, with the diffenece that we can put the extras into groups. sarcasm.gif But I don't know, I can't work with GTA IV models, becuse I don't know how to use Zmodeler

yea same problem i have.. when i pick a car then peds uses same car as mine... thats why im usin fbi buffalo for mod.. they cant use that car so i can drive the one skyline in liberty city:)

 

ps: guys i know this is not the place but i need help about change engine sound.. i already change car game name in vehicle.ide but not worked.. plis help whatsthat.gif

i try to change the the traffic density in graphic option, and with this i noticed, less is the traffic more different car you can see in the street.

There isn't much you can do to alter this. It's known as "car syndrome", I believe. It's been happening with all 3D GTAs, as far as I know.

 

The peds drive the same car you do (or the same car class) to save memory. If every ped would use a different car, the game would use more memory, to store all those different vehicles. It's a shame that Rockstar hadn't managed yet to make the traffic more "varied".

 

Anyway you can try to edit the file "cargrp.dat" located in: Grand Theft Auto IV\common\data

 

You can edit this file to make the rarest cars or bikes to appear more often. You can even set Mavericks appearing on the road, I believe. At least you could do that in San Andreas, I remember editing this file to leave only Shamals on the streets hehe, and peds would "drive" them, crashing on everything and exploding. Quite funny. devil.gif

 

Still, you won't get much more variety. This is simple how the game works, and the more detailed the vehicles are, the more often they will appear. The default cars have about 600kb in size (the file), but new cars can have up to 3MB, because they're very detailed. This will make the game use more memory, so you will see the same car more often than usual.

im intersting to know how many car do you use in your game.

 

Because I don t understand, when i try with 4 car the game run correctly with a lot of different car in the street, but if i put one more , i got only taxi.

 

so i try to remove the last adding car, and i got the same probleme than before , only taxi !!! suicidal.gif

 

realy don t understand suicidal.gif

 

i use version 1.03 of gta4

I've been messing around with the vehicle.ide file to try and get a more realistic variation for a while also, but am starting to understand that you just can't get one mad.gif I can make a car impossible to find in the streets while you drive it, but not a better variation of other cars. Like you, I just get a sh*te load of taxi's, cops and the occasional PMP600.

 

By the way, if you'd like your car to be the only one in the city, just change this in your vehicle.ide file:

Under FRQ type 1,

Under MaxNum type 0,

Simple. Now you truly have a unique car.

AFTER READING THIS TOPIC, I PLAYED AROUND WITH THE SETTINGS OF THE GAME AND I REALIZED SOMETHING.

This might just be me being stupid, but..

 

What if you set freq. to 1 or 2. Then the MAX amount to 2. Then the game will only be able to spawn 2 instances of a vehicle before it has to spawn some other vehicle. Won't it be lots of different cars then? Or will it just spawn 2 of a couple vehicles, then let the rest be empty streets?

maxing what settings? graphics settings? doesn't seem makes sense to me?

So if I'm understanding this right, if I add about five modded cars, I'll see a glut of taxicabs?

 

Well, if only any taxi could become a taxi subgame, I'd be ALL GOOD.

 

Roman's Taxi is absolutely the first car I'm modding, since I have to use it constantly, I want it to be something I like. Maybe a Grand Marquis or something. Something that doesn't look like an 80's Bonneville G.

Anyone tried, to set the maxnum and frq of ALL cars in the vehicles.ide to 1?

This would mean, the game cant spawn more than 1 of a car. Even taxis.. I assume this would cause empty streets or a crash... or both of them biggrin.gif

The reason it only spawns taxis is because there is not enough free memory (RAM) to keep more vehicles stored (I think). The game must always loads taxis and police cars, so it loads those first before any other vehicle. Of course, if the player was in a vehicle recently or is in a vehicle, that vehicle has been stored in the memory, so it will use that vehicle too. I think it's the normal RAM, and not the VRAM, but you should have atleast 512MB of VRAM anyway. It only loads new vehicles to use as traffic if it has enough free space on the memory. Remember, the game must keep alot of RAM free for other things too, so it can't use all of your RAM just for vehicles.

 

This is an extended explanation of "THIS IS SOMETHING TO DO WITH MEMORY". It's probably been said before in this thread, in different words, of course.

I had 2 gigs a month ago, and now 4 gigs. It didnt change anything in the frequency of cars..

hey guys i'm new to this place and was just wondering, does anyone NOT have this ( very few modded cars on street ) curse upon their game? in other words, does anyone have most or at least alot of the cars modded in the game and they all show u? i can't find willard anywhere. lol, also. could the be the fault of ONE of my car mods?

I guess its pretty much the same problem like in GTA SA, theres limited space in your systems memory, if its full because of like 6 cars or sth (too many or too big textures/too high polycount (pretty much every downloadable car has these problems)), the game will only display these 6 cars. Thats why its important to use the ressources (texture size and polylimit) effectively and not just give everything as large as possible textures just because you can, sooner or later itll mess up your game, just like in gta sa. And we didnt talk about the framerate yet lol

Thats why its important to use the ressources (texture size and polylimit) effectively and not just give everything as large as possible textures just because you can, sooner or later itll mess up your game, just like in gta sa. And we didnt talk about the framerate yet lol

It has nothing to do with the amount of system ram, since the space it can use for cars is limited anyway. The only way would be to have better optimized cars, with low poly, and just the texture sizes what we really need. And this is exactly why the diversity goes down, and down, after some specific car mods...

You should do what was written above. Reduce the number of big size car mods.

For example, the Toyota Camry mod out there has a 9MB texture file (lol), while the average is well belove 1-2MB. I took out that car, and the variety in its zone went up significantly.

Well it's the most efficient way to do it, as far as I know, because you make use of what's already loaded and then you try to load more. Maybe it's not the RAM, but this system is in use somewhere in the game, I know this much ..

i think that R* has over and overworked the cargroup pedgroup and vehicles.ide .. to get the right "spawning" of diferent vehicles

 

 

because everything sticks together... how many peds spawn of "XXX group" witch cars are in de "XXX group" how many spawn through vehicles. ide

 

 

soo...to get the expirience of the variety of moddet cars we must overwork minimum the vehicles.ide and cargroup
