$50 for a copyright notice? WTF!

GTA IV has been working great, since ever.

 

But now, after like, half a year off, I come back just to read some copyright info.

 

That's right, I launch the game, and I get the copyright notice:

Then LIVE signs in, and that's it.

 

It just stays there forever.

 

And the game is not frozen, 'cause I've got no trouble opening LIVE.

 

But I can't get any further -.-

 

 

This is getting pretty annoying.

I've been using the last 2 days trying to fix this sh*t.

 

I've tried installing the recommended nVidia drivers for GTA IV.

I've tried running the game without Steam open.

I've tried running the game without Xfire open.

I've tried running the game while logged out of RGSC.

I've tried running the game with all anti-virus / firewall protection shut down.

I've tried removing loadingscreens_pc.dat from common\data.

I've tried verifying the integrity cache.

 

And a whole lot of other crap.

 

I also completely removed the GTAIV folder, and re-downloaded the whole thing.

 

And guess what!! It STILL doesn't work -.-

Assuming this is a fresh install, try applying the patches and updates manually.

Also, delete all files from your Settings folder. More info here.

Defragging your hard drive would be a good idea too.

 

As a last stop measure, try Xliveless.

Edit: Meh, I'm just going to format. Gonna take some time removing installed programs, and backing up files. That's the bad thing of measuring your disk space in tera -.-

 

Edit: I assume that all of this is due to malicious software.

All my problems started half a week ago, when apparently I got some malicious software on my computer. (I can't believe websites can download and run .exe files on your computer without any kind of notice or confirmation)

 

Google Installer crashed each second minute, and my computer would only start up each 3rd time, can't visit a lot of websites, all search results on google seems to redirect to some weird random advert sites, half my programs doesn't work, I can't play GTA IV, my processbar occasionally freezes.

 

It's apparently post-damage, since I've already removed all spyware. Did a complete scan with SUPERAntiSpyware.

 

I guess it's time for a format after all.

It IS my Windows XP installation that's corrupt.

 

I booted into Windows 7, activated GTA IV, launched it, and voilá, no problem, what-so-ever.

 

So I'll have to format. Then install Windows XP, BitDefender and SUPERAntiSpyware.

 

I don't really like the name SUPERAntiSpyware. It sounds like spyware. But it's good.

I suggest getting Avira AntiVir. It's the best free anti-virus out there. Highly recommended.
