That loox sick! colgate.gif Say, if u keep that lightbar, will we also be able to change the lens color ? For my jurisdiction they'd be all blue, they have always had the majority of all blue here for police w/ sometimes some *clear* and some yellow caution ones. Red for fire, amber or yellow for utility, green for security. I guess it goes w/out saying that we'd have a customizable skin ?!

There is a pic of one of the styles on this page

thanks everyone,

The only way to get over the resolution problem is to enlarge my light textures from 512 to 1024. There is a trick to get over it. The a texture have to be proportioned with the canvas size. So if you got a light texture with pixel size of 128X128 and you put it on two different canvas (one is 256 and the other is 512) If my theory is correct, the one from 256 will have much sharper quality than the one from 512.

I am busy at work and someone asked me to do a conversion and preventing me to put any significant progress. Once i get over this conversion thing, you expect to see more progress.

I'm using the '83-87 and '88-91 LTD Crown Vics in game now. The newer one is very low-poly but works for an Intruder replacement nicely. The '83-'87 I can't remember what I have it set as but I LOVE the details and the JGEIL2 Ohio license plate. Used to live in Ohio and thinking of modifying the county sticker to be Delaware county and the lettering to BEL4699, the plate from the '84 Diplomat ex-cop car I used to drive around central Ohio, scaring people into slowing down.

stalled stalled stalled for almost 3 years, had my bad days sad.gif

made subtle tweaks over that hiatus....

now partially resumed....hopefully good times rolls again. Now stops at 72K tri's. LOD being modeled and optimized. Texturing is 80% complete.

Oh my, that's some beatuiful piece of art. Wait, wait. Is this for SA or IV ? Afte reading the pages, you are going for IV the most, but if you have chances for SA as well, that will be a good thing to see it happening. I do have some good places for Crown Victoria to fit into, places that are waiting from a very long time.

Thanks dohc_vteck and deathproofdodgefan

@ Blitz I'll deal the tough part getting it to gta4, then SA later.

@ occupant my co worker used to have a 97 gmarquis and he fitted with police bullbar, all the road hogs on fast lane moved aside for him.

Amazing job! How difficult is it to make an LOD? Do you basically have to remodel from scratch or is there a trick?

It's pretty straight forward. The most common meathod is to reduce the main model by deleting edges and verts. 13k is about the same poly count as regular gtaiv vehicles but it's a lot less than 75k which should help. The only downside with high poly cars in gtaiv is they cause the taxi bug - which means the game reduces the amount of ped cars to only a few at a time. It seems taxis are priority which is where the issue gets its name.

DOHC_VTEC is right, i just delete edges, therefore preserving the UV maps, i thought about re-modeling it and I felt a little averse of going through cleaning up meshes. Then i go for clean up instead, not as bad as i thought, have to merged detached faces though.

I been in a cave for so long, I didn't know about the Taxi bug, since i only installed 3-4 mods in my GTA4 and fairly lowish graphical settings, except the screen resolution (no ENB).

sigh, sorry i forgot to show the hood and misread my polycount, the actual number is about 75K, so I perform some crash diet on it, managed to shave about 1000 tris, since some of the texture shadowing allows me to remove a bit more tris without ruining the looks a bit.

I am a little confused with the polycount, is it supposed to be the primary models + LODs = total polycount or just the primary model?

EDIT: I made further reduction now 73622 tri's, ill try to find more useless edges.

Yeah im not sure on the exact details on what causes the taxi bug but installing high poly cars is definately a cause it seems. I wouldnt worry too much about it, its hard to find GTAIV car mods under 800,0000 million tris anyway cryani.gif

It looks like youve done this many times, but if your interested my current workflow to get the car ready for export is:

- combining the model to one,

- sending to Zmod

- scaling and positioning the car to look right.

- exporting it back to Maya

- scale original car in maya to roughly match imported scaled mesh.

it works really fast and no messing around in Zmod after exporting the parts.

Just got to assign the correct materials.

before the Obj plugin I always had to mess around with .3ds files exporting from Max and having to fix normals was really offputting...

mayas obj exporter seems to preserve all the normal information pretty well

Mother of God, that model is great!

I've been reworking one of my first mods last month. (Almost done). But that LTD is Pumbars' one.

When this is done would it be okay if I left that one behind and do yours?

I can tell yours is way more detailed.

EDIT: Oh, to ensure you won't see me as one of the ordinairy noobs, here's a link that shows all my work:

I also converted your great bus and Caprice to GTA IV. I did a lot with your Caprice, and I am also reworking it to improve the quality.

@DOHC_VTECH thanks for the advice, it'll help me along the way smile.gif converting model format is tough. I am shock to see these Racing sim rips are averaging 100,000 mercie_blink.gif I thought 60k is too much, my machine may not able to handle gta filled with 100k cars.

@Intensified thanks for converting my gmc bus. I'll let you know if I am not able to get the car on gta4 on my own.

@RoadRunner71 thanks, ill try my best to get it done.

I discovered using my lattice, my int door panel may deform improperly, may have to revise it withouth jacking up triangles.

A very fine job, I must say! When you finish this, do you plan on doing more 80s/90s cars? It would be amazing to see those classics done with your touch wink.gif

You've got it. But seeing what you're capable of, I am sure you can do it! Looking forward to this.
