If the city was based on the decade

Basically I'm saying if R* just said thier doing the 70's for instance what city would you choose for that decade? This goes for every decade from the 50's so it's like this...

50's: Detriot/ Chicago area (Chicago has the perfect mix of Post war happiness and culture with tons of poverty while Detriot was at the time one of the largest cities in the U.S)

60's: Birmingham ( Civil Right's era, KKK, riots, segration, and the deep south...)

70's: San Fransico( It has the perfect 70's vibe)

80's: The state of Florida ( Miami! Swamps! Rednecks! Cubans! do I need to go on?)

90's: Los Angeles ( Riots! Gangs! Poverty!)

00's: New Orleans ( This one is easy 3rd world conditions, massive gang violence, a hurricane, military moving in, o boy this is one my favorite ideas!)

10's: All of Mexico ( Massive gang wars, poverty, clubs, the second largest city in the world etc.)

70's: I agree, San Francisco was great for GTAs during the 70's. Triad gang wars, police corruption and gay riots. tounge.gif The UK would be interesting as well, unemployment, strikes and the like.

80's: The UK for the same reasons. The crack epidemic started in LA during the mid 80's, so they would make a great time.

90's: Dunno. LA would work well.

00's. Well, Lincoln State, and the various cities within it. Politics, gang upheavel and the like.

BTW, Birmingham makes EVERYONE BRITISH think of one of the UK's biggest cities, not just another American city in the deep South.

I agree with all of these. A Las Vegas in the 50's would be interesting. That was a time when most hotels were owned and operated by the mob. But I think Chicago/Detroit would work better. Same with the 70s, London would be a great setting with the strikes, rising IRA activity, the already present ethnic gangs, and overall civil tension, but San Francisco would be best.

1930's-Chicago, for Al Capone, John Dillinger and all the rest.

1940's-Post war Berlin. Different I know, but it could work...

1950's-Post war Seoul. It was a very dangerous time there.

1960's-London town. Dave Bowie, moon landings and Big Ben.

1970's-Melbourne part one. It was the era of Bon Scott, The Kane Brothers, Chopper Read, Mad Charlie, Monaros/Toranas, Ray Chuck's Great Bookie Robbery and an up and coming Chris Flannery.

1980's Sydney. Chris Flannery, George Freeman, SP Bookies. Or Miami, as its been done successfully in the past.

1990's: LA: riots, gang wars and 2pac. Or Melbourne part two: Alphonse Gangitano, The Carlton Crew, a young Carl Williams, Benji Venamin and Dino Dibra and the Morans.

2000s: Melbourne part three: Carl Williams at his height, Mick Gatto blowing young ounks away in the back of restraurants, shootings in front of kids at the footy and all kinds of drug dealers. Or NY or Detroit.

2010s: Tijuana. One of the most dangerous cities in the world right now, with kidnapping, murder and drugs at an all time high.

If R* were going to stylize a depiction of the 00's at some point in the future I think a fictional city based loosely on both New Orleans and Atlanta during mid 00's circa 2005 would be a great way to go. I'd imagine it would be a pretty scathing critique of the Bush-era set to the backdrop of GA's vibrant music scene combined with New Orleans' vibrant cultural scene/turmoil.

If R* were going to do the 1990's again I think they should do it entirely in a new Los Santos set in 1996 during the height of the East Coast/West coast feud. 1996 is a particularly good year because they could have all the hit 90's records post 1992; it could be even better than the San Andreas OST.

1980's would have to be Vice City again - simply because nowhere else on earth was as happening.

1970's San Fierro or Motown. SF - Counter-cultural revolution, hippy's/haight-Ashbury, Doors, Joplin, Grateful Dead, Iron Butterfuly, feminism, etc.

1960's - London or epic fail. Same as Miami during the 80's.

1920's-1930's - Windy City prohibition-era.

You know I didn't think of Vegas at all but really I still want to stick with my choices mainly because the only times I see Vegas at it's height are the 70's, current, and the 2010's. Regardless I think that some people said London during the 60's and itsn't that at the height of London's crime problems? I'm not really sure but wasn't it still poor from being bombed and having massive street gangs? I think that would work well. Also the only reason I said Miami and Florida for the 80's is because otherwise you would have to just do a northern city in America with the crack epidemic otherwise thiers no poin to setting it in the 80's at all.

I always thought a 1990(highest homoside rate of new york) Liberty city being set primaraly in a central Italian Bohan nieborhood would be sort of cool.

Yes - wasn't Al Capone born in 1899: nearly 900 years after the 1020s?

Why Chicago today? In my opnion Chicago would just be New York.

General Goose

I disagree.

While not vastly different, the crime scene and situations vary differently.

Examples please of how thier would be a HUGE difference in the two places? I mean the only one I could think of is different gangs....that's really not a good enough reason to set the game thier present day...

True - but then I'm a student nurse, and you need to be pedantic in that sort of area (for obvious reasons).

I think that game is slightly better than GTA 4
