Are you experimenting much in multiplayer?

I was in Freemode with 2 guys dominating the place with their annihilators. They were pretty awesome in air to air and air to ground (auto aim off). So I avoided the airport and later found myself at the heli spot in Alderney City. Since the Maverick is my favorit heli because of its better maneuverability I thought why dont just give it a try... biggrin.gif

First time they shot me so the second time I let them chase me trough the narrow places in Algonquin. One of them crashed right into me trying to brake off my tail (oh stop it you naughty boys sly.gif ) which cant be done. So his tail fell right off and he crashed into Middle Park, killed by the impact.

I checked his profile and trophies and found out that he started playing 8 month ago. Got to level ten and all that.

His flying was very fluid and without doubt he practiced very extensively.

So he is an elite pilot and doesnt know that you cant break the Maverick's tail and that you can prevent yourself from dying by exiting the chopper a second before impact... mercie_blink.gif

This brings me to my question: How do you play?

Are you experimenting much?

Do you come to the forums to search hints and tricks?

Or do you just play and learn from the situations / your opponents?

How do you play?

- Mostly by jumping from free mode to free mode, seeing who I meet, what is going on and adapting accordingly.

Are you experimenting much?

- Oh god yeah. I found a glitch under the stairs at the docks near the capsised tanker the other day.

Do you come to the forums to search hints and tricks?

- aye

Or do you just play and learn from the situations / your opponents?

- both mate.

Keep an open mind, I say. It's just a game, but it has a huge universe, so there is no harm in trying everything in it.

Who the f... cares about dying or nice play in freemode? Me not, only if tryin to practice smth for missions. But this here sounds like fun-play.

And btw AA off or on doesnt matter in heli... and Mav's tail can break.

I dont care how you play, its entertaining most of the time. That's what counts for me. biggrin.gif

I only mentioned aa off because of the air to ground aspect. I am not an uber-player mowing pilots out of their beloved choppers at aa off...

only managed that with not so great pilots.

I just found it odd that a very good pilot doesn't jump out. Most of them prefer to stay alive rather than losing the chopper.

And I jet have to manage to break off the Mavericks tail.

Alot of practice makes you better, you start clicking onto certain things. Like when and where to take cover, who to shoot over who, what car to choose. The list can go on and on. The more you play, the more you learn, like any game.

One thing to do, is to watch what other people do. Like certain shotcuts i wouldn't have known about if i wasn't chasing someone, or in the car as a passenger.

Thats just what pisses me off with these lvl 10 AA nubs. They think they are at the top of the game, where as in fact, they need AA to assist for their kills.

Funny you say that cause I specifically remember knocking a tail off an Maverick in free mode near the air port. The douche kept trying to knock my tail off my chopper and when ever I would shoot him down he would run and fly away for health. He kept coming back to knock my tail off so I said fk it and knocked his off.

Didnt manage to play online yesterday, but 2 people pointing out that you can break off the Maverick's tail sounds legit. icon14.gif

I never get after the tail and in 8 month of online play I never met one single person using the Maverick in air to air battle...

So, sorry for making a false statement biggrin.gif

ganner you are wrong

i too prefer the maverick is it has better manuverability due to its size

it isnt as fast as the annihilator though

but you can DEF take the tail off the maverick either by crashing or having someone

crash into you

i take tails off professionally as opposed to professional annihilator gunners

ive been doin that bail out trick but ive been getting better recently

also sometimes you cant do it cuz you die before the heli crashes or it explodes midair

and yea i experiment by climbing and testing out jumps.

no offense though but ive never been taught a shortcut lol.

^^ Yep, I was wrong blush.gif . Tested it in MP but it didnt work. Couldnt find decent pilots biggrin.gif . So I assumed you couldnt brake it.

But testing it in SP I broke the tail and the little tail rotor as well. But I had to try pretty hard.

So here is a question: is the Annihilator's tail braking faster?

Yes. The annihilator is less durable than the maverick. They have the speed and the guns, we have the tight corners and durability.

Beeing an experienced maverick pilot, ive been in countless battles with annihilators, and ive won most of them. Sure, sometimes you might pick a fight with the wrong guy, and it turns out he kicks your ass with the guns, but most of the times - just get above them and carefully nudge their tail.

Altough, it should be said, the main rotor on the maverick is slightly less durable than the annihilator. Pro tip for annihilator pilots!

Yo, big mistake in thinking! There is no correlation between rank and skill! Everyone can gain 5mille points just with lot of games.

And this AA-discussion in every thread is annoying. GTAIV is NO FPS and there are things beside of it.

This is an auto-aim off forum... so it doesn't matter. Occasionally an auto-aimer comes in here...

I have been experimenting a lot over the past week on how to get good hangman's noose times. Ive tried bringing the helicopter to the jet driving Petrovic there driving Petrovic over to the chopper and so on.

The best time i got was 2:04 and that was using the method of bringing the chopper to Petrovic's plane. So to sum up i think the best way is to grab the air tug that is on the right, drive to the chopper bring it back to the jet, everyone load as fast as they can then a quick dash to the safe point.

I have been working on it a lot the past weeks and finally got the wanted and platinum trophy. biggrin.gif

Yeah, I try to do that whenever I can. I'm rubbish with the rifles though, better with RPG.

Are you firing in bursts? Whenever I try that with pilots and hit them, they immediately F off to the health...

its harder in multiplayer to knock the maverick tail off

one thing i noticed is that in freemode its almost impossible to knock

the tail off a LCPD maverick while cops are piloting it

now my favorite thing about the maverick (but done the least amount of times) is the fact you

can grab onto it. im not sure if that defines glitch i think its debatable.

you can only do it from inside water tho (pool, ocean)

just lower the maverick right above sea level and the person must grab on

im flown around the map and dropped people on top of rooves in times square from alderney

also ive had 2 people hangin at once. i do think if you fly too fast they fall off though

i actually want to try this in like2 hours when i get home if someone is down

Yea i shoot in bursts some of them stay when hit (these are the good pilots) others are too scared to be shot out so fly away. The good thing is they can kill you as many times with that chopper but as soon as you shoot them out BAM you're accused of having a turbo... lol!!!

Did you do it? I am sorry I missed it but I wasnt online for a few days, globbits...

@ MrJohn666 and Jay X: I do that too. But most of the time good pilots stay out of my rifles range. So its snipertime biggrin.gif
