“You never win, unless you think you won. You never win. No one ever wins, because, winning and losing is just an illusion in our minds. In the end, it's just one side with less of something and the minds declaring a victory or loss. The will to fight is forever lost to the loser, and always held by the winner"

For years, we suffered. For years our land laid in waste to the hand of god. Our crops, never growing, our people, all starving. Death was the only thing that was made in our land. Many were born, and many would die. But for some, their death would come in the form of a much greater hell. One believes that death of starvation is the worse way to die. But the worst way die, is to have your soul starve, and then die at the hands of monsters who brought the true end to our land.

Chapter One: The Rape of The Land

Long ago, our village was a place of business. Farmers in the hillside grew luscious wheat and corn. The corn in rows, as long as the border, grew tall, green, and made more corn then you would believe. The wheat was the waving sea that everyone watched and everyone knew. It blew in the breath of god, and it was a sight to be hold. You haven't lived until you saw the size of our Apples, growing in rows for miles in the hills. Green and red mashed together in a beautiful scene of mother nature doing her work. The beauty of our land was incomparable. Green fertile ground, a blue sky of beauty, and streets paved in gold. One would wonder, how could things go wrong? We never did, we never had a reason too.

Mother nature was kind to us. She rained when the crops were dry, and warmed up the nights when our feet were too cold to stand on. We always gave back to her, and we praised our Lord for her. We could not sustain life in our town. Without the farming, what would we be? A few people with a bunch of hills? If it weren't for Mother nature, we would be that. But Mother nature is, after all, a woman. A woman is just as easily made as she is ruined by one man, and one act. Mother nature was raped, and it didn't take time to realize this.

Some don't know what caused Mother nature to lose her purity in the sky. Some blame it on factories in surrounding towns and villages. Others say, it was because we never gave back what we made. For all we know, it could have been the end of our reign, like an empire falling. But there wasn't time to blame, only time to try and fix what Mother nature had intended upon us. And when a force like that, bestows upon you what it wants, there is no stopping it.

Within just two months, we saw our crops dry up. The once lush green color was curling up and turning a dirty brown, a brown on which you see a dying mutt. A perfect picture to describe what was happening. Within a year, our great apple trees were giving us nothing but crab apples. Small, ugly, tasteless apples, which no one would want. Even the birds and the bees stopped eating from our trees. Our land was dying, and there was nothing we could do.

If the brutal summer wasn't enough, the winter would surely be the final blow. It came early, and left late. Everyday was a bone chilling day. Even the precious fire logs we had, were sometimes frozen solid from the cold outside our small, thin, and drafty door. We all sat together in a circle with every blanket, sheet, and pillow for hours on end. That's how we stayed awake, that's how we slept at night. We all hoped that the next day was a bit warmer so the logs wouldn't stay so cold that they took an hour to start burning. One can not imagine a worse hell, but more was to ensue. But even that was just the beginning.

For 9 more years this cycle went on, with no end in sight. We wished and dreamed for the past. The green grass, the wonderful warm sky, the winters where kids would play and have fun. Not huddle next to a fire for survival. Farmers left, animals died. The stores and shops closed up one by one. Leaving only a few stores left, and even they were on the verge of leaving forever. Tough times for all, but we had to enjoy it. For a new age was coming, what they said was a new beginning, and we would wish for the past again.

I have to say I quite like this but I am a bit confused. I'll have to give it another read.
