Maxrevv
Hello. So,today (at 6:21 a.m GMT+8 time) the first day of fasting has arrived. For us Muslims, this marks the Ramadhan month, which means a whole month of abstaining from eating and drinking. Other activities would be abstained aswell, such as sex(that means mastering aswell) and picking your nose, for example. The rule is basically, from 6:00 a.m until 7:00 p.m (Well here eneways) we must abstain from those things for a whole month (i.e 30 days). So,before 6:00 a.m,we must wake up and eat for a little bit,to ensure we would survive the following day. Fasting in Muslims ensures that all Muslims are the same, and aswell as getting to feel how unfortunate people are actually going through on their lives. So,for those who are Muslims, happy fasting to you. I'm sure I'm not the only Muslim here, right?

I'd love to join, except my religion is to eat canadian bacon all day and watch Monster Jam. Sorry
The Unvirginiser
Sounds good, as long as it brings your attention to all of the hunger and suffering in the world - which is the point.

Seachmall
(that means mastering aswell) But I wanted to master the art of dance! Good luck with your fast, I assume you're sending the food you don't eat to starving people of the world otherwise I don't think it'll be of much benefit, but that's just my opinion. That's not meant to sound offensive or demeaning but take from it what you will.
Flesh-n-Bone
I started fasting since I was 12. It's all good but nowadays I get hungry faster. And here we will be able to eat when it's 8:30 or something, every day it gets shorter though.
02134
I remember last year was tough for me cuase I had some other things to deal with. The whole concept (although I'm sure I won't be completly correct on this) is to help you focus on more important things.
Maxrevv
We actually do give to the poor food and money, but its usually done in the last day of Ramadhan month(fasting month),where we would pay our alms to the mosque and the organisation there would give to the poor evenly. Fasting is actually practised in other religions, but not so. I started fasting when I was 8,and in some of those years,it shows that you can lose some pounds. Seachmall: Nah,its okay. People are entitled to their own opinion. That's what fasting a month teaches you,to be more considerate and more disciplined (you can't even pick your nose during your fast). Brownbear: You can fast,as I said,I started when I was 8,so there's no problem at all when you're 13.
copperwire93
im 13 should i fast ? I start fasting at 7 years old, even though I had to skipped sometimes back then So yes, you can fast, age is not the problem.
D- Ice
im 13 should i fast ? I think you should only do it if your feeling ready and willing. Way I was taught it was like it's third pillar of Islam, so you should proably concentrate on prayers and the other stuff if you want to be religious. Probably should try just one day to see if you like it or not, and I wont suggest doing more than just a few days this month if it is your first time - that's what I did. I started fasting when I was 13 - but that was in the killer summer furnace/freezing winter wastelands of Iraq. I kept doing it for a couple more years, despite friends at school often annoying me with me newfound religiousness, and the only people in my extended family who used to fast were my mother and paternal grandfather before he passed away. I used to fast like every single day except a couple days every Ramadan. It really used to make you think about just how lucky you are having all that food - especially since it was customary to make a massive feast everytime we stopped the fast at sunset - even though there were often explosions which rock the house everyday, we still felt lucky. Anyway, I kinda lost faith since and stopped doing it - though I'd love to try it again sometime soon when I'm feeling depressed and sh*t, to see just how lucky I am. I'm back for a couple weeks with my family now as they want to reconcile all our past, and despite only my mom fasting, and my sisters will proably give it a go again too - the massive feasts every night this month should hopefully be great family time. Anyway, hope you great fasting this Ramadan everyone taking part. Edited August 22, 2009 by D- Ice

I think they said they do it with Mecca times or something, so they wont all die from dehydration after three days. By the way, I'm loving your religion where you never bother brushing your teeth. What is it, and how can I join please?
Flesh-n-Bone
I don't think there's any sort of restriction towards the teeth thing. As long as you don't swallow anything it's all okay.

Lol I don't think there is any problem even if you swallow a bit by accident - as long as it's not food/your purposefully eating toothpaste to fill yourself up. I used to love eating some wierd children toothpaste we had in Iraq that actually tasted nice - probably they put sugar in it! But I doubt that's the case with Muslims who fast to be honest. Flesh-n-Bone
Currently, I just finished playing football (soccer for those from USA) and I felt thirsty and was sweating when I came home. But I washed my face with cold water and even though it made me really feel like drinking a bit of water, I still managed to avoid it. Lucky was I. So, it's just a one-minute thing at most, at least here. I just feel like breaking it for a moment, then I think of the six hours I've managed to stay food-less after waking up and decide that it's not worth it...
