How to get more FPS in GTAIV?

P4 is single core, what you see, is HyperThreading, which is useless

now i hawe instaled windows xp sp3 and i hawe iwen less ram on vista was 4.00 gb..now it is 3.25 gb

 

so i will run gta 4 on:

 

Pentium® 4 CPU 3.00Ghz

 

ATI Radeon HD 3600 512 MB

 

3.25 GB of RAM

 

ps: wait i will now instal gta 4 , end later i will post benchmark results

You're using a 32bit operating system. 32 bit can only recognise about 3.2 - 3.3GB of RAM due to the way it addresses memory.

 

Vista 32 bit says 4.00GB even when it can only address 3.2GB of it.

 

Also I don't see any point trying tweaks on a P4 machine. At best you're going to maybe get 3 or so extra FPS.

A Pentium 4 is a singlecore, the reason that you see two cores listed everywhere in your system stats is because it uses Hyper Threading which is basically two hardware threads per core.

The Pentium D is two Pentium 4s glued together if I recall correctly.

 

Anyway, a Pentium 4 at it's stock 3.0GHz isn't gonna give you eh 'playable' framerates, so shell out some money and buy a new PC if you want to play GTA IV and future games.

Pentium 4s' are weak CPUs' because their architecture is based on brute force Mhz. The Duo cores on the other hand have a much better architecture at lower Mhz. They're actually slower per core but being dual they're very fast, much faster than a Pentium 4(not just because they have two cores either)

 

GTA requires a powerful CPU, quad-core to get the best experience since the port comes from multi-core consoles.

btw: how kan you play the game with that fps,i cant because i not useto play at that low fps...we hawe the same fps...the same cpu..but the only diferance is that you hawe 2 gb ram and i hawe 3.5..well vista says 4.00 gb...and you hawe a far nore batter gfx card but the same gfx memory as my hd 3600... .. but we hawe preety much the same FPS.

well didn't this post just explose, last i looked it had 3 replys.

 

I have a spare PC that is P4 3.6ghz 3gb ram and 120gb HDD

along with my crappy old Nvidia 6600GT which can't run GTAIV even on the lowest settings I suppose

if i put a Nvidia 8*** series card in it might have a chance of running At 20 FPS.

 

My current Gaming machine is q6600 2.4ghz (oc'd to 2.7ghz, I'm still experementing with the OC'ing)

and i get 39FPS outside and 50-60 indoors with a Nvidia 9600gtx 1gb OC'd.

 

I would never try any of the current or coming soon games on a P4 as that would be just plain stupid, as min

requirements these days is coreduo 3.0ghz with 2gb ram with the recommended system specs being a Quad Core 3.0ghz

with 3gb ram. which will soon increase to I7 CPU's with 8gb ram in the next few years.

 

So as others have said Get a better CPU for starters if the game still don't run as good as you would like then get a new GPU.

as what you have is like trying to run crysis on a P3 and a Nvidia 5200 and expecting to get 60 FPS it just ain't gonna happen.

 

If ya have the money saved up get the most expensive QuadCore you can offord that way it will at least be more powerfull

than your current GPU which is a piece of crap

Erm no your computers are not perfect, in this day and age your computers are far from perfect. I suppose in 5 years time when everyone is using i9's I will be within my rights to claim "my quadcore is perfect". The Pentium 4 had it's day nearly 4 years ago, I ditched mine P4 about that time and got a dual core, then later got a quadcore.

 

It is unrealistic to expect a game like GTA 4 to work on a single core processor. Your hardware is so much more weaker than the consoles yet looking at your settings you are running the game at HIGHER settings than the console and you wonder why you are having bad frame rates .

I Agree with you only gta iv lags a litle bit ..but i made it now i hawe 25-40 fps in game wery litle lag...btw: its not perfect

ROFL I love it when people roll out the "I am a real gamer", you are NOT a real gamer because you are playing on OUTDATED equipment. I suppose according to your logic I am more of a real gamer than you because I play a mean game of battleships with a pen and paper. I guess Jesus Christ was a "real" carpenter because he used a wooden hammer, not these fancy metal hammers that modern day carpenters use .

 

The fact is you are not a "real" gamer you are someone that has unrealistic expectations, the P4 is obsolete for pretty much everything and that includes gaming. I know it, most on here know it and I believe nearly 72% of steam users know it (yep that is right single core users are now a minority).

 

Now at the end of the day it is your choice to play GTA 4 on a single core, it doesn't affect me one little bit. However when you come onto this forum and start blaming the game then it becomes my business. On suitable MODERN hardware this game runs very well, much better than it does on the consoles. However on inadequate OUT OF DATE hardware such as a P4 it doesn't run very well and you should not be coming here asking how to boost your frame rates and bitching about the game because you don't meet the minimum specifications clearly marked on the box.

Yes i ramamber now: so i instaled the GTA IV patch 1.0.4.0, i downloaded and instaled the ATI Catalyst™ 9.8 Driver - Click , and then i use the -memrestrict commandline. from Hare i use ( -memrestrict 262144000), and then when you instaled ewerthing go in game and set ALL graphic options to low or of,including the resulution on minimum ( yes i know gta 4 then lucks like crap but if you did ewerthing allright you shuld get a "normal" FPS.

 

BTW: We dont hawe the same hardware (only the cpu) i dont know if you get lower or batter fps then me. but i think that you shuld try it.
