All nighters are strange and eerie...

I pulled an all-nighter to finish up some stuff for my classes. Not it's 4:00 in the morning and I'm eating Cheerios in the dark...I've never pulled an all-nighter by myself before. I live in the country and it's kinda eerie right now... yawn.gif

All the writer's from WD do it, it's when your mind becomes the most creative. Watch a scary film and then go downstairs, bet you sh*t it.

I haven't pulled an all-nighter on a school day before. I have to try that.

Lethal Nizzle

Never pull all-nighters on the day before the piece is due in. I've f*cked up a load of project work due to crappy edits and lazy vocabulary. wink.gif

I remember doing an all-nighter while browsing through Snopes. Bad idea. Paranoid and looking over my shoulder the whole time biggrin.gif

Some mates and I decided to pull an all nighter a few weeks ago and when it got to 8am we were all like 'Yay!'. I then woke up at 11am thinking 'what the hell just happened?'

Yeah, I used to do it all the time in uni when doing essays. Usually stay up until like 7/8am.

Kinda used to leave it till last minute a lot - since most of the other days I'm mostly messing around or being distracted by other events - that I don't even enjoy that much with thoughts of my essay and passing the year looming.

After a 10 hour sleep once it's all done, it's usually straight to whatever club's doing a student special and cheap drinks, getting plastered and spending another all nigher in the club and the ritual wondering of the streets for hours drunk, trying to get back.

Man, I love student life - can't wait to get straight back into it. biggrin.gif

I start getting philosophical and preachy if I get too tired, which I found out when I tried to pull off an all-nighter with some friends.

I pissed them off by talking about the world's problems, so it's not the best thing to watch the News when your eyes start stinging like f*ck.

All the writer's from WD do it, it's when your mind becomes the most creative. Watch a scary film and then go downstairs, bet you sh*t it.

This is true. I find that if I stay up past a certain time I start to become more creative. This is usually when I write most of my best work; between the hours of 2 and 5AM. Though I generally, as a rule, need to go back and edit and doublecheck it before publishing it. Writing under the influence (of tiredness) usually results in somewhat sloppy writing.

All-nighters happen to me all the time, though not willingly. I have insomnia.

@writing myth: It depends on the person's body clock. While I can usually dish out some decent work in the wee hours of the morning, my best pieces are created directly after a refreshing dinner.

I feel sluggish and sloppy after dinner. I have a sleep disorder, not insomnia. My mind's too active at night to calm down and sleep, the harder I try the more I think about stuff and just can't drift off.

I wasn't cramming for a test or anything. I was just getting ahead on my work. I did about 3 weeks worth of work last night smile.gif

I do love the odd all-nighter. They're usually pretty productive for my bank balance as they usually include a poker game and to date I've never ended up break even or down, always walked away up from my mates. Last time I had about 15 odd tinnies, a whole large pizza and a number of shots and still had £60 more than I started the night on. My mate on the other hand ended up £120 down. Silly bastard tounge.gif.

Actually, I'm having one tomorrow (Though I hope not, poker game at mine and this girl and I are pretty close so might make it an early one!).

Anyway, when it comes to actually utilising my time effectively, like the Writers discussion lot, the majority of my 3D modelling inspiration happens during the very early hours.

I'd hazard a guess at the problem being that you're too intelligent. Simply have them cut off part of your brain - it worked for..gsjhgjkshgsjdgsguogufgifk... me.

Havent pulled an all nighter in ages, never had a productive one though. Usually drinking all night or being geeky playing marathon game sessions. The night seems so long at around 4am, like it's never going to be day.

I remember camping after leaving school, got wasted and ended up pissing a lot of people there off. Was a rollercoaster of a night, as the sun rose someone was cooking up bacon. It smelled f*cking great and suddenly I didnt feel like sh*t.

The morale of this post...Is that bacon conquers all. biggrin.gif

[in regards to everyone talking about writing]

I used to write nice poetry and short stories. The best time for me was about 10pm with some relaxing music in the background, putting me in a trance. I'd fire the stuff down on paper and then check it. I have recently become a lazy bastard though and my only real skill is rapidly eroding.

All nighters are scary as f*ck when you're all alone. Seriously, every little sound makes you jump. Why do TV's make that cracking noise when they're off anyway? Is there something outside or am I just suffering from sleep depravation, oh sh*t WHO'S THAT RIGHT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF YOUR WINDOW LOOKING STRAIGHT AT YOU.

Fo' real.

I haven't pulled an all nighter in quite a while. I used to love them while programming, sometimes you just get on a roll and can't stop.

The only time I'll ever pull them is for school, usually during project week (what we call hell week in Architecture school). The all-nighters became less and less as my school career went on, however. I'd usually spend up until 10 or 12 in studio ever night, yeah, but I wouldn't need to pull that many all-nighters. That being said, I did do a 40 hour day once - I'd leave studio to shower to wake myself up and get coffee and that's it.
