Spider-Vice
The culprit is your graphics card, not Rockstar. Even if it's extended, it's even worse because your RAM is less and your graphics card... sucks. Trust me, if you get a better graphics cardm you'll get better FPS. I have an nVidia 8500GT Overclocked and GTAIV runs at like 30FPS and at like 33/38FPS with shadows off or everything in Low. let your hopes and dreams turn into burning fire! player282
did you check the requirements on the back of the box?
Garfield 2
Yes, and my computer has the minimum requirements - that's why I bought the game duh On Can You Run It I pass the test.
Spider-Vice
But the minimum requirements aren't enough, they were exaggerated. This is a game that requires a lot of RAM and graphics card power. 256MB isn't enough and it's even worse with 1GB taken from the RAM. let your hopes and dreams turn into burning fire! Garfield 2
Yes, but as stated before I play Crysis which is WAAAY better in terms of graphics on HIGH, 1024x768
Girish
How about you accept the fact that your CPU and GPU both suck instead of blaming the game? Don't even mention the shared video memory because it is of no use. In order to play this game with a decent fps, you need a good enough graphic card with at least 512 MB of dedicated memory. Since you're trying to run the game on a laptop, it's always going to be worse. If you sill think it's not your laptop's fault, then by all means, go back to playing Crysis. I'm really tired of people blaming the game instead of their poor laptops/systems.

Garfield 2
I can't afford a f*cking i7 with a GTX280 AMP+ Edition. I pass the test and my computer does fulfill the minimum requirements, imho this is a rip-off if the actual minimum requirements are not the minimum requirements at all. Also, I've never had problems with games when i fulfilled the minimum requirements (just an example: Need For Speed: Carbon (i used to have a PC that was just the bare minimum and guess what - it worked flawlessly, same for San Andreas - I've a tablet pc and I get steady 30fps which lowers to 15fps if there is an explosion - Intel Pentium M 1GHz, 512MB RAM and a 32MB Graphics card)) Edited August 20, 2009 by Garfield
hetment
And firts of all main thing that i gottas say is that those yougamers and system requirements tests i had also done and i know thye will easily show that you pass but they are never accurate! They just tell whether game will RUN or not , not the performance you GET.. Performance highly depends on your graphic card as well as procceso and ram! Like mine for example in system require it showed minimum passed and i had 8400Gs and i run game on all low for 20 fps so you got now what is the differnce between thses system requirements and performacne overall in game .. NitroBullet
It IS Rockstar's fault for idiots posting topics like this. They didn't put the right requirements on the box. Minimum requirements should lead to 40 fps, since that's the minimum fps for the safe/green zone.

It's just a good GFX Card and a bit more RAM if possible that you need. d0mm2k8
It's been said plenty of times that R* were wrong with requirements and that the game does not run optimally anyways Just wait till Christmas to update your hardware, and if you're not Christian - f*ck it. Intel Core 2 Duo E5300 @ 2.6GHz 3GB RAM nVidia GeForce 9600GT 512MB I haven't been following these forums for a while now...but to answer your question: The CPU and RAM should eeaassiillyy do it. Plobo
You pass the minimal requirements. You can play the game. Minimal requirements doesn't mean you will be able to play the game on medium, 1280*1024. It's just minimum for start and play the game- so what more do you want? Optimal requirements are for playing on medium. You don't have them, so what more do you want? And how everyone's saying it : Crysis is not GTA IV, don't compare it. NitroBullet
GTA IV is optimized for quad cores and the 3rd generation video cards, because GTA IV is a 3rd generation game. Get with the times and stop living under a rock with your dump computer. Don't have the money to buy it? Well boo-fcuking-hoo! That's life! Even the GTA series tells you that you need money to get something out of life. Don't complain because you (lol) "can't afford it". Get a job. Crying ain't gonna help you son. You know what I did when I noticed my computer couldn't play GTA IV? I upgraded.
DML
GTA IV is optimized for quad cores... I don't know if that was intentional for the PC port of the game. If they were "optimizing" it for the mainstream PC gaming market, one would think they'd focus on getting the game to run perfectly well on dual-core CPUs first. Reality is: the game runs better on quad-core CPUs because the number of processing threads match (or exceed) that which is available on the XBox 360...which allows the mostly-untouched engine code to run better. Yidakee
What the hell is wrong with all of you !?!?!? R* post minimum requirements, which are exagerated, but its the superior gfx card's fault !? You are all insane I tell you. the 9600m GT might not be top of the line, but IT DOES RUN GTA ON HIGH SETTING SMOOTHLY ! So the 9600 GT will obviously be even better! Except, of course, that there are dozens, hundreds and thousands of people with incredible machines that simple cannot run the game properly, because R* doesn't even know how to minimum require their own game, let alone properly finish coding and sell one of the most highly anticipated releases ever in gaming history. It is, to say the least, ridiculous. Edited August 20, 2009 by Yidakee

I couldn't have said this better myself, your PC DOES NOT meet the minimum requirements clearly stated on the box. In future pay attention to the requirements which can easily be found all over the net and packaging before you buy something for your PC.
