molotovgrenade
OK, so I recently bought Geforce 9800 GT because I wanted GTA4 to have better graphics, well it indeed has but the game lags like you wouldn't believe, even if I change the settings to lowest as possible it still lags, it's unconfortable to play it. When I had Geforce 8600 GT the graphics were really bad, but the game was running smoothly, there was no sign of lagging anywhere. What should I do? Is the only way to insert back my old card to play the game without lagging?

Lodis
Intel Core 2 duo CPUE7200 @2.53 Ghz 1.67Ghz 2,00 GB RAM Your CPU is the problem. I have a 2.0 Ghz Q9000 CPU and if I disable 2 Cores (makingi t a Core2Duo) I lose from 10-20 fps and it laggs. If you play GTA IV with a Core2Duo, maybe a 3.0 Ghz might be enough. With your old GPU, your CPU could keep up with it more easily perhaps.
molotovgrenade
OK, so what CPU do you suggest to get?
anus
What are the drivers you're currently using? Try and uninstall the drivers you have through Add/Remove Programs and then install the 180.84 nVidia drivers (the drivers I linked to are for Windows XP SP3 32 bit). Chevyboy
As warlord said, sounds to me like a driver related issue. Be it old drivers causing conflict or new drivers causing the issue. If it was the CPU as an earlier poster said it is very likely you would have been getting this lag regardless of GPU. I would start by following warlords suggestion and making absolutely sure all traces of old drivers are uninstalled and try some of the newer drivers for your card as some users get best results with the newest ones, some with slightly older ones. Additionally if you feel up to it, overclocking your CPU will give you very nice performance gains as you are most definitely bottlenecked by your CPU with that new card. Either or, but the new drivers do that in-game. 180.84: http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_gtaiv_downloads.html
