newn Posted August 9, 2009 Share Posted August 9, 2009 Hello everyone. I'v tryed to install GTAIV yesterday and today and it only runs the installer if you set compatibility mode to SP2/3 XP. Anyways, the point is at the begginning of the installation drops an error - catastrophic failure. I can just close the tab and then installation closes. So any suggestions? And yes, i tryed copying it to HDD and install. Same thing. I got Windows 7 64bit. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Extortionate Posted August 9, 2009 Share Posted August 9, 2009 Strange. Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistribution, it's on the disk. Did it install LIVE? It loads installation, but then it just gones. Or it installes. I don't know exatly. The point is that green thing goes to the end and then the installation window is gone (abour redistributive) and about live i don't know, i'v installed one with another game and plus i reinstalled live redistributive and live itself from the dvd. Extortionate Posted August 9, 2009 Share Posted August 9, 2009 (edited) Try removing LIVE completely. I have Windows 7 7100 x64 and it installed fine without any compatibility mode. If all else fails, try and install the game in Safe Mode. If it still doesn't work then it maybe a Windows 7 bug or something wrong with your GTA IV disk. I run build 7600 RTM (Legally obtained and activated, before anyone is complaining), and I was able to install the game fully using the normal installer, without any need to set compatiblity mode. So the best advice here is to wait until the OS is released publicly (october 22) and install it on that version. Otherwise, make sure you install the C++ redist (the one included on the disc) + the windows live redist (also included on the disc) and then install the game using XP compatiblity mode. If you have trouble installing C++ redist, first uninstall it using the control panel applet, then try to install it again, and verifiy that it is installed using the control panel. newn Posted August 9, 2009 Author Share Posted August 9, 2009 Using the same. 7600 build of Windows 7 and i reinstalled redist that way. Now let's try installing GFWL redist. Okay, installed that redistributive too and now getting the same error. Running the installer directly from that folder, so setup.exe. Even disabled UAC protection in control panel of Windows 7.
