ERACISM

Recommended Posts

The past day I listened to over 3 hours of news radio covering Obama's words about a professor arrested after "breaking in" to his own home. Heated words were exchanged and the man arrested. From what I gather, it was about 2 to 3 days before released? I've not looked up online, but wanted to get some thought on this heated debate, the Obama "haters" are coming out swinging at least on Talk Radio it was pretty heated as well...but again, I see both sides taking the chance to spread biased views on the matter!

And your point is? If this is intended to be a debate, it should be in D&D, otherwise, there really is nothing to talk about.

What exactly is "eracism"?

On topic: I think the entire media circus is a big failure for the administration's public relations ...

Yeh, D&D this one. I first became concerned with Obama's state of mind when he refered to US Citizens as 'his workers'. Also, that professor does not own that home. And he was arrested for Disorderly Conduct, probably rightly so, based on the report. Just my opinion. ;p

I laughed really hard when I found out this guy got arrested. Not because I have anything personally against him, but because we had to watch this entire show he did about Africa in my history class. He would always say these unintentionally funny things throughout the series. Hits me right in the funny-bone.

No matter how accurate his claims, Obama messed up by saying the officers acted "stupidly" without knowing all the details of the case. That is something that a citizen like me or the pundits can say, but a leader and a professional such as the President should be wise enough to either choose more subtle words or to avoid the local issue all together.

The authorities called it "regrettable and unfortunate," and they were right.

Disorderly conduct has historically been used as a bogus charge to arrest people for anything that might piss off a cop. The cop had no place to arrest Gates, what did he do that was so illegal? Yell at a cop? That isn't a crime, you can't arrest a guy for criticizing the police, especially in his own home.

This isn't even a race issue.

I am surprised at what forum section this goes in, but sorry I can't be around to check on things, they cut my AC power from the bills not getting paid and I've no luck so far either, I'm on a dead battery laptop now, but I was looking for an update on this story as well

As much as you think it is not a race issue, it turned into one because Gates is somehow affiliated with Obama, and Obama don't like the popo f*cking around with his crew. He stuck his neck out a little too far on this local issue, and he's going to get the guillotine for it.

So what is this? Just cops sticking up for their own? Or a race issue? I think it comes from the belief that all cops are crooked, and here, Obama wanted to make to try to make an example out of the officer in question.

I've seen people arrested, and tazed for so much less than what this guy got "arrested" for. This Gates guy got the royal f*cking treatment as far as I'm concerned, they even let him get his cane after he was done bitching at the officer like a moron for a couple of minutes.

Nice grasp on the English language as always, Slamman.

There's very little to talk about, or that should be talked about imo. One thing that I want to briefly mention is that the people that are shouting the loudest from what I've seen are the right-wing populist pundits, who are reacting in

to this situation, when it really should be black people who are up in arms since they are clearly subject to systemic racism by the police and society in general. Most of the debate is so reactionary and lacks any understanding of race relations in America to the point that talking about it beyond a few sentences would only be perpetuating the racial division that many in the msm want to bring about. In addition to that, I think the police were so clearly at fault that there are really only a few legitimate issues surrounding the incident that we can talk about, namely excessive police power, freedom of speech and the race relations, but the mainstream discussion of this incident has made me too disgusted to do so. So what? Just because people get it worse then Gates doesn't mean his arrest was right. A deaf retarded guy was tasered in Alabama the other day, and that is f*cked up too. The bottom line is that there is no way Gates could have been convicted on anything he got arrested for, it was a phony charge, they should have just left the scene and kept doing their real job.

While I don't think race was an issue this time, race remains an issue between cops and the black community in America. There is a disproportionate amount of blacks in jail and a lot of that has to do with a racist drug war and police going after the poor to enforce it. Not long ago there was state sanctioned racism, and there are black people who remember living under Jim Crow laws. To act like racism has been fixed and that black people should stop bitching is ridiculous.

Obama's yelling that racism has got to do in that police incident when he actually called those officers "stupid"?

That's ridiculous... whatsthat.gif

Sotomayor, the first hispanic woman was confirmed to be on the Supreme Court of the US a day or two ago, and that's all you'll hear about it out of that party, the media, and most people who "support" her.

It's not people being racist, it's the politicians, the bureaucrats, the "journalists" and newscasters. Sure, there are some fringe elements out there that are still racist, but I don't believe anything about this arrest was racist, and the only reason race is an issue in this one, is because the "victim" proclaimed it to be, and Obama jumped in and called the police stupid.

I find it's better not to believe a f*cking thing in the end though, maybe it was racism and the cop called him a ni**er, or the guy really did hit his wife or whatever the reason they were called there for. I would have arrested the guy for disorderly conduct too if you tell the guy repeatedly to calm down, because, that is pretty disorderly if they can't shut the f*ck up. It is never right to yell at a cop, you need to read up on the law, and be courteous. Knowledge is power when it comes to these police visits.
