GTArv
Forget about what I said about the "Pixillion Image Converter". Its supposed to be freeware, but loses most of its vital features after a 30 days. I just discovered FastStone Photo Resizer as an alternative, which comes with no strings attached. From the website - "An image converter / resizer intended to enable users especially digital camera owners to convert, rename, resize, crop, rotate, change color depth, add text and watermark to images in a quick and easy BATCH mode." EDIT: FastStone Image Viewer may interest a few. "FastStone Image Viewer is a fast, stable, user-friendly image browser, converter and editor. It has a nice array of features that include image viewing, management, comparison, red-eye removal, emailing, resizing, cropping and color adjustments." Also, Congrats on the commendation dave, keep up the good work! Edited September 27, 2009 by GTArv

lordjubblydave
When are you going to announce the Top 10 Freeloaders? If i ever get more than 2 sets of votes. Coming Soon. I want to make A Feeloader Top 10. Basically the top 10 most essential pieces of Free Software. But, i need a little help from you guys. If you could all PM me your Top 3 applications from the main Freeloader list. I can collect the results and create the top 10. Which i will then, hopefully put up for Download in 1 package as kind of a beginners guide to Freeloading. Please Send Your Top 3's Here In my opinion (!), the table would look better if the names weren't in large size. The software name isn't really THAT important to make it large as possible . Yeah, I realize it'd take a sh*tload of time to edit it all... I agree, especially now the list is getting big it hurts my eyes So i made it a bit smaller, when i do my next update it will shrink again Does anyone know how i could make seperate tables for each subject ? i think it would make for easier reading if each category was seperate. But every time i try it they all come out different sizes WHY ????. A Bit of a Fun, Pointless, Freeload. Press the Spacebar My record for the 5 Second setting is 36, can any of you do better ? Ryan
> MediaCoder - Convert between various audio and video formats. Batch conversion possible. Thank you so much Arv. This was exactly what I needed to convert my TV shows to MP4 so I can watch them on my iPod. All the other ones I tried only allowed a couple of minutes of conversion before they made you pay. ghost of delete key
Just wanted to add to ZoneAlarm: If you are using Kaspersky Anti-Virus, it will cause BSoDs when using the Internet. It happened to me, took ages to figure it out. I've never seen such a state. I happen to be running ZAPro v8 alongside Kaspersky 2010 on a Compaq SR1603WM, and while ZA is now (since v7) admittedly a RAM hog, and does not recognize Kaspersky av in its monitor, it otherwise works flawlessly, and is a very powerful combo. It could be your BSoD hell was machine-specific. BTW, if you run this combo on a HP board like mine, you may want to consider disabling or outright uninstalling the HP boot optimizer. It often slows down your bootup considerably. I don't have the link handy but a Google search will easily reveal the details. (search "HPBootOp") A word about the SysInternals suite... Once upon a time, SysInternals was the creation of one Mark Russinovich, and the suite of free tools was extremely awesome in the most extremely extreme way. These tools COMPLETELY exposed the internal workings of the Windows platform in a way rivaled by apps costing thousands. DebugView was the tool we used with (Spooky's?) ASI hook to read the debug messages streaming from GTAVC.exe to diagnose mod crashes. Enter the Evil Bill Gates: Apparently Microsh*t did not like the way SysInternals undressed the biotch that is Windows, and could not legally kill Mr. Russinovich. So they went all thug on him and made him an offer he couldn't refuse... It was bought out and became MucouSoft property. The current suite of tools now offered are severely crippled, much of their original functionality was stripped down, and some tools disappeared altogether. Yay for Boss Gates. I happen to have the original suite, but the license does not permit redistribution. I know if I were foolish enough to host them for access, ol' Billy would have a pack of meat eating lawyers baying at my door, and besides, I honor EULA's. But I just thought y'all should be aware of all that. Now, on to the sauce... SECURITY ALERT!!! For those interested in internet security, there is a wonderful suite of free tools and a web app by Gibson Research Corporation. They are too numerous to list here, but this link contains them all. The ShieldsUp! web app will test your port security, and shows why Zone Alarm is the greatest firewall you can get. GRC is not affiliated with ZA, but Gibson is a fan. The site also has many informative and interesting pages that should not be missed by anyone with an internet connection, IMHO. All the tools are simple, and help with such Windows security issues such as DCOM and uPnP. I consider this site a must-see. ...and I cant believe that nobody has mentioned the BitTorrent client, the de-facto standard, and free. Vuze (formerly Azureus) is a free, open-source torrent client based at SourceForge. www.emailaddresses.com has a list of free security-conscious web surfing tools such as Proxify and Stealth Message (very cool!) I guess that sums up my top picks of indispensible freeware. Enjoy! btw, I would have a hard time picking a top 3 from the List, but I'll have another look in a bit. SWEETSAPRIK
The current suite of tools now offered are severely crippled, much of their original functionality was stripped down, and some tools disappeared altogether. Out of curiosity, could you give an example or two? I only ask because I've had a few sysinternals apps on every PC I've used at least as far back as 2001. Specifically process explorer (as far back as it still being called HandleEx), process monitor, and tcpview, but a handful of others as well. Of the ones I've used (and the ones I still use) I've noticed no missing or removed functions. It's entirely possible that I just never used said functions to begin with, or the specific programs you're talking about, but I'm still curious. I still have zips and install exes from most of the programs I ever downloaded going back to like 2000, so mostly I'm curious if I'm missing something worth digging around for. Also, there's actually a decent chance you might be able to find a few of them on the Wayback machine. PяopagaиdaIиc.
nixxio
DVDVideoSoft Basically lots of free applications that range from video and audio conversion software(including downloading Youtube videos), to video and audio editing software, and a lot more. DeepBurner Its well, ahh f*ck it. DeepBurner is a CD/DVD authoring program made by Astonsoft which supports CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM. Additionally it can create and burn ISO images. Its pretty good actually, especially since the free vers is only 2mb. Had no problems with it whatsoever, same goes for DVDvideosoft applications(well the ones I tried at least). Unlocker Can't believe that one wasn't in. If you ever had trouble trying to delete/move a file because of permissions or Windows is being a bitch, just use this application, it will solve all your problems. Combined Community Codec Pack All the damn codecs you'll ever need, for watching videos, and stuff. PeerGuardian Well, blocks IP's and stuff, you know, and it's free. Nevermind, seems that's in already, woops. Edited October 13, 2009 by rdbx1234

Star-Lord
KGB ARCHIVER KGB Archiver is the compression tool with an unbelievably high compression rate. Unfortunately, in spite of its powerful compression rate, it has high hardware requirements (I recommend processor with 1,5GHz clock and 256MB of RAM as an essential minimum). One of the advantages of KGB Archiver is also AES-256 encryption which is used to encrypt the archives. This is one of the strongest encryptions known for man. GTArv
Nullsoft Install System - Create interactive Windows installers with customised UIs. A disadvantage of NSIS is that everything needs to be scripted, there's no wizard or GUI included that lets you create your installer with a few clicks. However add-ons such as this one can add that functionality. EDIT: Found another one; Sweet Home 3D. I think you should add PatrickW's Firefox extension as well. http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=189597 Also, do Steam games (free ones) apply to this thread? If so, I suggest this: http://store.steampowered.com/app/3483/ While it does have unicorns, it's actually very fun. http://store.steampowered.com/app/29150/ This is a very interesting game. You have to draw a loop around crystals to get to a something. You can draw the loops two ways: on your PC using a mouse (boring) OR printing out a sheet, drawing the loop and taking a picture of it/scanning the sheet (interesting). Star-Lord
^^ Yup! When in doubt blame me A sweet looking multi-media player like no other, and FREE! Modern looking interface, capable of playing most media without additional codecs, extremely customizable. Introduction to KMPlayer * All the necessary codecs are built within the multimedia replay, KMP. Thereby, the video can be played without any additional codecs. KMP supports internal/external codecs. The internal codec is processed within KMP rendering a faster and a safer action. The current internal codec supports for all the codecs already found in ffdshow. Additionally, it can also partially hold up for MPEG1/2, which could not be normally supported by ffdshow. * The audio codecs AC3, DTS, MPEG1, 2, AAC, WMA 7, 8, OGG are supplied. In utilization of internal audio codec, the matrix function/normalizer is addionally provided. Furthermore, AC3/DTS S/PDIF passthrough fuction is automatically supplied in creating a high quality home theater experience. This means that a high quality home theater environment is provided with only KMP.For those who do not utilize the internal codec, even though the external codec is supplemented, there is no need to register the system alike to the general program. * The current total codec packs and the players create numerous problems by compulsorily installing codecs on the system. However, KMP is different. It does not harm the system. This means that the installation and the removal of KMP do not affect the system. Depending on the decoder of the external codec, it is possible to set up an individual decoder if required. Furthermore, either the establishment of priorities for filtering or restrictions on its use is supported. * Support for Winamp, RealMedia, QuickTime * KMP does not include advertisements and is an autoreplay multimedia use for free. It provides an enhanced function in comparison to other internal autoreplay codecs and most of the multimedia files can be ran without any supplementary installation of codec independent from the computer settings. * Possible to create a new dimension by utilizing the KMP especially for those who has difficulties in installing codecs, who owns a low version of computer, and who looks forward to an enhanced video entourage. * Support from low-capacity computer to high-capacity computer Download
