L.A. Noire

This game deserves a bump.

One of my favourite games of all time. It has a very distinct atmosphere. The soundtrack alone is an experience.

yea la noire was good but the main problem is

1 no multiplayer yes i know its not gta but it could have had a cops and crooks mode like gta 4. it also could have had co op cases. just like heists for gta 5. we could have had worked on a case with 4 people and have everyone really think and decide who is guillty.

2 not much to do after the story. once you beat it you can find those cars and if you saved them the random crimes. there are no minigames or anything to really do besides drive around wishing for more stuff.

overall the game is good but it is kind of ruined. i feel as though its a good game to just watch on youtube. its just like a movie with good voice acting and a cool atmosphere. i do hope they make another noire game but add minigames and other things to do after the story. and add a multiplayer. it dont have to be big just a co op case and cops and crooks. i also hope the protagonist is better. i like cole phelps i really did until i saw him cheating on his wife then i started hating him. and the ending was good but i was not to sad for cole. atleast not like when john marston died john died protecting his family. cole while he did sacrafice himself to help the others i still felt bitter at him. he had a wife and kids he was a war veteran and cop he should have known better than to cheat. then again i guess rockstar wanted us to hate him.

oh for anybody who plays gta 5 are there any la noire references in 5? thanks

1. I don't really know how popular a L.A Noire MP would work, It could be fun but it could also be really stupid like W.D MP.

2. No, just no too many stupid people you'd never solve a case with the right suspect, Some cases were kind of hard by yourself let alone with 4 randumbs not to mention the trolls unless they put in a safeguard where it was a majority rules type thing.

3. No i don't think there are any references to L.A Noire in GTA 5 partly because R* who published LA Noire and the games creators had a falling out.

After looking into it more, seems like the big boss at Bondi was a f*cking asshole. Here's the short story:

Apparently L.A Noire was going nowhere, it just wasn't coming along. After Rockstar dumped money, help, and marketed the game, they started to take bigger control of the development, Brendan McNamara (CEO) was not happy with it. Kinda understandable, but without Rockstar, the game wouldn't have seen the light. Amongst that, he treated his guys like sh*t, while also acting like the underdog because of Rockstar's hand in all of this. He even wrote an e-mail saying that he will never forget the day he was treated like sh*t by them (R*).

There's more to it, but in the end, I guess the arrogance prompted R* to stay far away from the team. I, for one, am happy that Rockstar did what they did, as without them, there would have been no L.A Noire.

All I want is a L.A Noire Sequel. You give it to me and I will leave. ;)

Me: Do you want the Sequel too?

You: Not Really...

Me: Ok. Why don't you just tell me the truth. I can see that you are lying already.

You: WTF Dude?

Me: (Looks at the book -- Finds nothing) Sorry, sometimes you need to shake the tree to see what falls of.

OMG it's so awesome to see this thread bump.

I downloaded the DLC not more than a month ago on PC. I have yet to go through it, but this was definitely a masterpiece when I had it on PS3.

After RDR, this definitely deserves a sequel.

You won't regret your time invested in playing its DLC. Just do it already. I myself am going to play the game again once I get non steam copy working on windows 10. I want to achieve Valorous ratings in most of them.

Sources: I have played full Complete edition.

I started one of the cases, but there was one clue I just couldn't find. I don't know if it was a bug or something, but I always tend be a perfectionist, and it kept annoying me. I'll get back into it. I had just been distracted.

I still can't get over how good the facial movements are for such an old game.

It is this game and the other is "Until Dawn" that has the best facial movements IMO.

Provided that we have a sequel, do you think that we will have a game where the story will be continued or a game with a completely new plot?

If so do you have ideas for new plot or may be things you want to be included in the new entry?

1. One thing that I would always want is that, game should be related to olden days as it was in its original state. No ways will I accept modern days.

What are your ideas?

So today I just completed L.A. Noire to 100% with all Badge Pursuit shields and platinum trophy (rewarded after getting all the other trophies).

My exact reaction to this game:

This game kicks so many videogames' buttocks! The atmosphere, the music, the facial animations and Cole's cold stare. Rockstar f*ckin rules! Loved every minute of it.

L.A Noire had it's flaws mainly based around repetition, but it remains one of the best-written Games I have ever played the narrative is what video games should strive for, sheer brilliance, the atmosphere was also top notch.

A Unique & Clever video game.

Any updates on Whore Of The Orient anyone?

Assumed dead unless Rockstar purchases the IP and takes a risk to continue it. Highly unlikely seeing that it's nothing more than a concept with an extremely early alpha build that looks like absolute dog sh*t and a name that will not sell to anyone. The game is dead, nobody is going to fund it.

As of now the IP to Whore of the Orient belongs to the same guys who bought Team Bondi and I doubt they will do anything with it.

I have a big soft spot for L.A. Noire, despite its considerable flaws. It's just such a cool, unique game, with a lot of love and care put into it, and while the gameplay stumbles from time to time (the interrogations, namely), I loved the investigation aspect and just driving around '40s era Los Angeles is just so cool, even though you can't really do anything with this staggeringly huge and detailed open world. And while the story stumbles as well, especially near the end, I found it to be pretty engrossing and with some fantastic characters and moments. Roy Earle is easily one of my favorite video game a**holes ever. I even liked the ending, even if it was

pretty predictable - as soon as Jack Kelso became the new player character, I knew Cole's days were numbered, and it didn't help that Rockstar had recently done the same thing in Red Dead Redemption.

I recently bought the Xbox 360 version (I originally got it on PS3, but my PS3 died on me this year) and all the DLC for super cheap, so I've been itching to do another playthrough. I'll probably tackle one once I've worked through this huge backlog I've built up of newer games.

And even if I did see it coming after what happened to Team Bondi, what happened to Whore of the Orient is pretty sad. It was never one of my most anticipated games or anything, but from the beginning I saw it having potential.

I'm thinking of giving this game one more shot. I already started it twice and never finished it (once on PC, once on PS3) and the disc is just sitting idle here.

The biggest problem I had with it is that it gives you immediate feedback whether you guessed right or wrong, limits your options based on that and then rates you at the end. I feel this demolishes the whole point of interactive cinema. In this kind of genre, each option should be equally valid. I mean, IRL I could never truly know whether I guessed right or wrong and whether I've not convicted someone innocent. The story further down the line should give me that feedback, not a ding and a rating. I don't like it when a game tries to punish me.

Oh well. Any chance you guys have any tips how to enjoy this better? I'm actually a big fan of these kinds of games - Beyond Two Souls and Heavy Rain which are kinda similar are among my favorites so maybe I just expected something else (even though I played LAN as the first of these 3).

While I can see where you're coming from about choices, Roger, I mean, the game is really a detective game and wasn't marketed as much as an interactive movie and was instead more marketed as a lie detecting game. You're supposed to read the voices and faces of the people being questioned and figure it out - it makes sense for the different outcomes of cases to be based entirely on whether you detected well, or if you were a bad cop etc.

The story is pre-defined, the outcomes are based on your ability to read people or not, and usually, you can find all the clues you need before questioning. usually because sometimes there just isn't time.

Okay, I started from scratch. First - woa, I totally forgot how gigantic and detailed this city is. And how silly those faces look. Nobody else is creeped out? I used to switch to B&W but then it's kinda a shame to not see that detail in color.

Anyway I'll just use a guide for the interrogations, honestly. One thing I was also reminded of that sometimes a completely legit evidence is dismissed. I don't remember whether you can then select another piece of evidence in such a case or if there are more than just one that gives the best result, I'm not gonna try. I guess I'll mostly use the game as an excuse to drive around the city.

Indeed it is so detailed and not faked with any filler stuff. You can find a cafeteria eatery that really exists and my Fiance's dad used to take her there, and went there with his dad since he was a little boy, and it looks a LITTLE different now, but it looks exactly how it looked back then up through the 70s in the game! I took him all over LA and he could actually tell me where to turn and say "that should be right around the corner" on any given thing and there it was - blew his mind, and blew mine, too. We even went to the train station where her stepmom rides to work every day, went down in it, went to the exact terminal she uses, it was a real trip, seeing how much is 1:1 in that game.

That's awesome. I didn't know it's a 1:1 recreation.

I kinda see why some critics say it's boring, since there isn't that much to do beyond driving, but it's just so gorgeous. I'd really love it if there were other games made in this same city.

I don't get why devs spend so much time making all these great environments and then don't reuse them.

Check it out in game, it's located on the 6th/7th street block of South Broadway =)

uwqWdZE.jpg

If you look on streetview, the colors have changed, the facade has been updated some, but it still looks about the same, but around it has newer buildings, but old pics are accurate to LA noire: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Clifton's+Cafeteria/@34.0455126,-118.2531038,3a,60y,144.02h,88.52t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sxqrp-LuBPXsB3y-nr1zYkg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x73cb065fcd61c86c!8m2!3d34.0452842!4d-118.2528165!6m1!1e1

You know how they do those "mapping out gta maps" before they come out? That would probably be a cool ass topic for this subforum to do mapping out LA noire to compare it to the real LA, both old and new times.

The sad thing is that they must have spent a lot of time and effort constructing and modeling this 1:1 representation of 1941 Los Angeles and yet it completely went to waste when you look at how much of it was used for missions. I say that it was either supposed to be a tourism simulator in addition to being an action/adventure game, or was simply a result of engineering for the sake of engineering.

LA Noire is on sale on UK PSN store for the PS3, both the standard and complete edition. I only played the standard one and I wanted to get the CE disc version anyway, but it's only available in another city. So now I'm getting it cheaper and faster, and digital. Downloading now :D

Bought it at a local store for $5 yesterday. Doesn't work. Disc is spotless. If I search for updates and install 1.02, the actual game install never works. If I don't, the game never even starts (error 80010017). What do I do? PS3, btw.

If your other discs work then this one is obviously faulty, so bring it back to the store, nothing else to do. The question has more to do with PS3 rather than the game itself.
