L.A. Noire

Speaking of actors who pop up: Robert Clenendin, aka the oncologist in Scrubs, pops up constantly. I've seen him outside Cavanagh's in the one with the bloody car, and also in a restaurant somewhere perhaps when eavesdropping on June Ballard.

Looking briefly through his films, he was in L.A. Confidential which, whilst I'm yet to see it, I hear is similar in certain aspects to this game.

I'll post some already known info in "black lines" thread.

A few days ago ESRB "announced" another game - Witcher 2. Surely they removed "X360" after few hours. But...

CD Projekt just made a pre-E3 announcement that...I think you guessed already what they've announced.

So LA Noire is coming to PC 100%. Everyone who says otherwise is a stupid dumb retard.

Lets hope so.

Well "Based on what he said" the same thing didn't happen to RDR, so "theoretically" No.

The difference is that L.A Noire was not made by Rockstar San Diego (they really avoid pc gaming)

No. Like Bully, GTA4, Manhunt 2 & EFLC did.

Why people think that if RDR didn't come than LA Noire won't come? whatsthat.gif

Unlike LA Noire there're weren't any major RDR PC hints.

LOL thats how I saw it I don't know if you noticed in one of the Arson cases theres one of the guys working on a house who you question for like no more than a minute but its Vincent Kartheiser who is known for being on Mad Men but I remember him from Angel as Connor who shared the same season with the dude who played Biggs aka Holtz

Yeah, I noticed that too although I already knew both Kartheiser and Szarabajka (Biggs) were in the game as I saw their names in the manual credits when I first got the game. It was pretty cool having Conner and Holtz onscreen together again.

Also in the same case, one of the other suspects was played by Francis' friend in Malcom in the Middle.

Just got my "shamas to the stars" achievement! Which is to complete all cases with a 5 star rating, used a guide and a second play threw to get it!

I played threw the first time without any help, just done it all my own way! Which is alot more fun then having the answers handed to you believe me

You're not really disproving my arguements though.. the fact still remains that Mason could have came into possesion of the Jewellry simply by stealing it. And there is no plausible way for the murder weapons and other items that link the suspects to the crimes to have come into their possesion.

Is Mason entering the people's homes/places of work and leaving incriminating evidence there not plausible? He was looking to test the police after all, what better way to do that than give them an air tight case (on the surface at least) and see if they could uncover the truth?

If he had just stolen the jewelry and not killed anybody, that still gives him opportunity and probably means for every single murder as he would have to have come into contact with the victims between the time they were last seen and the time the police arrived at the scene. There is also no evidence at all to prove that anybody else could have committed the murders, it was always a case of who the evidence appeared to fit best rather than ever providing a conclusive answer.

The reason the evidence is so easy to find is simply to make the cases feasable for the player. In a lot of real murder cases police officers have to scour a fifty mile radius looking through rivers and bushes in order to find hard evidence... that would just make the cases way too tedious and not much fun.

I'm of the opposite opinion. I think the fact that the suspects often kept quiet when accused, or didn't try to make it overly obvious they weren't the killer was artistic license to keep things ambiguous for the player. The evidence being in plain sight and ludicrously easy to find was very much part of the story and not a mechanic to avoid frustration.

I'm just saying that there are many holes and inconsistencies which throw reasonable doubt on his guilt.. which a really good investigator would have explored after Mason's death for their own personal closure at least.

I completely disagree that there's any reasonable doubt simply because the murders can be linked to one another. The only way that could be the case is if one man had committed all of them, and the only man who had the means and opportunity was Garrett Mason. His motive isn't something that's readily explainable beyond mental illness. I agree about further lines of investigation, though. That's one thing that would have made the game a lot better in my opinion. I would certainly have chased up the agency Mason was employed by during the third case, if not before, as he was a prime suspect for me at that point. I'm sure a more thorough look at him would show he owned, or had access to, a brown Ford coupe and was working at the bars the victims were at on the night of their respective murders, but alas that wasn't an option.

The murders were well publicised so it was open season for any copycat who wanted to replicate elements of the BD in a murder.

I have no desire to keep this going so I'm going to say nothing further and end it here if that's ok with you. I think the general concensus is that the homicide cases (particularly the final one) were handled somewhat shoddily. It's actually quite disappointing as a few minor adjustments could have made the homicide desk great. I feel all of the desks actually leave a lot to be desired despite it being a really good game overall. I suppose it is hard to please everybody though and minor disappointment seems to be par for the course with every game that is built up in the way L.A. Noire was.

To add to all this:

Some stuff was never really explained, like the whole "F*ck you BD. Tex." messages and stuff. I realised that during the last case Kelso calls Ira 'Tex'. This has been on my nerves as it never got explained, other things like the letter that said the same thing, too. I was thinking that maybe Mason used the guy to kill his victims, much like how Fontaine used him to burn down the houses.

But I don't see why he'd write on the bodies "F*ck you BD. Tex." because it's not like Mason would read them. Then again, the guy was completely out of his mind. It just annoys me how they never cleared this up, and it makes me think that maybe they did, in a case that was cut from the final game.

Still making my way through the homicide cases, just finished the one with the drunk, vagrant woman in the railyard. As great as the game is, the homicide cases seem very same-y to me. I know it seems to be a serial killer so they should appear to be the same victim-type and M.O., along with potential copycat killers, but I wouldn't mind an occasional break from this, throw in the odd difference.

Also, I got the 'Slip of the Tongue' bonus content when buying it from play.com, anyone know how I download this?

Here's site with the vehicle locations. Too be honest I never even knew what cars I had to look for. I've only just started to use this site to complete them. I started at 91.

Most of the time I was just scouting, or it came by just pure luck.

I don't think so, i haven't got a rating for it.

I only have the traffic cases and one homicide case to 5 star but i can't do them because i lent disc 1 out to my cousin. Gonna give the two DLC cases a whirl later on.

Xbox 360 or PS3? For Xbox you click on the middle X on the 360, scroll to the last left tab, redeem code; enter the code.

PS3: Go to PSN store, on the top right hand corner you can redeem a code. (I think there's 3 or so buttons).

Where do I get the code from? Can't find them anywhere in the game case, packaging it came in, or an email for that matter.

Did you order your game before the release Mark or was it on the day of release? The DLC was a pre-order bonus so you may have missed the deadline.

... feck. That explains it. Could've saved a fiver and just got it from elsewhere. Doesn't really make it particularly clear - thought it was a play.com bonus rather than pre-order bonus.

Not sure if you've heard about the Rockstar pass but you get the two pre-order cases and two other cases to be released down the line as well as a few outfits and a badge collecting challenge for about a tenner, not a bad price really.

I completed The Naked City DLC today, i was surprised how long it was actually. Can't bloody play A Slip of the Tongue as it's asking for disc 1 (Which i lent out) even though i have the case on the HDD.

May have to purchase this then. Never been particularly bothered about pre-order bonuses but when it seems like such an integral part to the game, ie. the cases themselves, I'd quite like to be able to play them. Bit of a kick in the teeth though.

Finished the homicide cases. Overall I thought the desk was pretty wank to be honest. The whole thing with Shelley excerpts made very little sense. I would've liked to have actually had a chance to decipher some of the things by myself in the last case - I managed to work out the locations for Tar Pits, Art Museum and the final Church of Thorns clues, but others such as how he figured out the chandelier at the Public Records place seemed far-fetched to say the least. I was also left wondering why, whilst the killer may very well have managed to plant evidence on others, the falsely accused confessed. I understand that in one case with the homeless guy, he was a bit mental, but a couple others seemed to confess to it. Overall, disappointing if you ask me. I'm just starting Vice Desk, so I'm still hoping that the storyline might come full circle and sort out the mess that was Homicide Desk.

This still doesn't take away from what, Homicide Desk apart, is a brilliant game. Traffic Desk was very enjoyable and Vice seems like it's going to top that even. Anyone know how true a representation of 1940s Los Angeles it is? Map-wise.
