Just finished it, brilliant story. Now to go back, finish up collecting the cars and replay it at a later date to get better case ratings!

(extra note: super spoilers, don't check out if you haven't finished the game

Looks like they pulled off an RDR on us once again. sad.gif)

Also, notice how Phelps dies by water while those Japanese fellers he made his subordinates kill died by fire.

I wish there was a log of the instructions that show up in the top left. Sometimes I miss them. GTA and RDR had that.

in the main menu you can select "Log" to see a full text print of all the dialogue from your current mission icon14.gif

there was some complaint earlier in the thread about the map size - agree bigger is better in this case!! - and about how it compared to liberty city in GTA IV.. it occurs to me after playing some today that though LAN's map is maybe less interesting than IV's, it's because liberty city was deliberately designed to be interesting, while LA Noire's map is a faithful reproduction of 1940's LA. too bad real life is 'less interesting' than real life - but that's not a knock against the game at all - ppl with that opinion i think are just missing the point of the game. it's not GTA. there's similarities, and you can still have a bit of fun causing mayhem in free roam, but you're on the other side of the fence in this game, that's that, and there's nothing wrong with it. this is more of an rpg than GTA, that's all.

HUGE SPOILER:

Yeah, that kinda sucked, plus I thougt it was a little strange that Cole just said Goodbye and gave up, not really attempting to be saved. Sure he lost his wife and kids, but he would've re-earned a bit of respect for rumbling the SRF and a possible new life with Elsa. Strange.. but I thought the ending was okay.

The game was obviously made to resemble a film noir. And most film noirs never really have that "Happily Ever After" element.

The whole story pretty much played out like how a Noir movie normally would.

Actually a lot of stuff in that trailer wasn't in the final game. Team Bondi said that they cut 2 desks from the final game... one could be Robbery as when Cole is transferred from "Burglery" to Homicide instead of Traffic to Homicide.

I think they're contemplating putting the "Burglary" and "Fraud" desks as DLC, according to a few sites.

Just reached Vice and I'm still loving it although I was really enjoying Homicide and if I was Phelps, I'd be pissed about getting transferred.

My only real gripe so far is with the interrogations. I hate the fact that it tells you when you've got the correct responses or not. I'd rather not know and carry on and maybe figure it out myself but instead it comes up with a big X meaning "you just f***ed up but we'll make you continue anyway unless you can be bothered quitting to the main menu and reloading". Plus I don't see why I shouldn't be able to ask as many questions as I like, instead of always having to guess the right response first time.

I have to say, if GTA Vs map is as big and as detailed as this one, I'll be happy.

Great game so far by the way.

Anyone had any issues with it yet?

GTA V better have more hills and ramps and better driving. Not that I doubt it will but this game just makes me want to run over people on purpose lol. This game is great for what it is but the last case I did I drove like a maniac cause I was just sick of being nice about it.

I was able to hold it off here. Perhaps I would have made it had not some retard posted a thread with a major spoiler in the title, in the LA-Noire forums. All in caps lock, as per usual.

Sh*t I hope I didn't just spoil it all for you guys. biggrin.gif I figured the context (responding to Lethal Nizzle finishing the game) might have revealed the "level" of the spoiler. My apologies if I really did spoil it for somebody... it's something I don't want done to me and something I avoid doing.

But anyway, I finished this game in about 23 hours according to the Social Club, but I think it will still take me a couple more to finish the street crimes, then add 6 more as I try to improve my case ratings and a few still for the badges and collectibles. It's evident though that they barely managed to fit just the 21 main cases onto the DVDs.

I have managed to avoid any spoilers so far.

I only just started but im not sure if i liked the game as much as i hoped, it is a little tedious at times, i do want this, but it is a tad annoying when your dudes hand moves really slow up and down his notepad.

I think i just have to get into the story a bit more.

"Brief" +/- five hours of playing this game over at a friend's house and damn, this game is good. What I personally consider as the biggest flaw in this game is the 'too tight/arcady' driving system. It's doo damn easy. Same with the 'combat'. Yes, I can forgive them because it's not meant as a third person shooter and driving game (GTA?)... but they could atleast made that more satisfying.

For the rest, superb experience. I also think it's damn entertaining to watch others play... because it's such a cinematic "experience". A friend of mine who isn't such a big gamer even jumped right into it and played the first couple of cases in his own way. Very amusing to see different approaches. Heck, even see people interpret the same facial "animations and expressions" differently. I for one thought one was blatantly lying in our faces while the other was convinced there was more to it ("doubt" or even thinking about 'truth').

They did it again, I'm glad I pre ordered it for the extra two things (Badge Challenge and the something something with the 'negatives' in the game's case. f*cking awesome detail and still need to figure out what's it for. Please don't spoil it for me though).

Anyone who thinks the driving or traffic in this is bad must really suck at in game driving. Sure, the occasional clusterf*ck will happen but the traffic and peds are generally very forgiving in this game. Use your siren or horn if you can't stop running into sh*t. Also, the map is too big? What the f*ck? It can never be too big. I spent about six hours exploring and driving different cars on the first day and didn't even see everything. That is a GOOD thing.

It's a good thing when drivers ignore red lights, speed out and wreck your car? We must be playing a different game.

The thing is driving is fun in this game, as in the mechanics. But the AI for other road users DOES suck. It's nothing to do with my skill, It's to do with over half the intersections i come to I have to play dodgeball with 2/3 cars running red lights and with me being apparently invisible to them. Cars have randomly stopped in the middle of the road, and cut me up (ok the latter DOES sometimes happen).

The map size is a matter of opinion at the end of the day. In my eyes it's too big, and it's missing a few parts of LA that (to me) are iconic. Santa Monica beach - did that exist in the 40s? and the hills to the north.

The reason i say the map is too big is because for a game like GTA, a big map is a given. But this isn't a sprawling sandbox game. It's a game where the focus is on being a detective. I think they could have had the map half the size that it is, and used the saved space for other things (enterable shops, more "cop"-like features - pulling over drivers and arresting those bastards that cut you up etc), and the size would still please 99% of people.

This isn't a game where you can spend hours finding things, roleplaying etc imo and the addition of free roam is there because it simply has to be.

Don't get me wrong though - having a map is good, but 9/10 the game suffers. True Crime, Just Cause - both huge but repetitive and generic. Now LA.N hasn't done a bad job of that, driving in hollywood feels different to downtown, but again its a difference of opinion.

My only real gripe tbh is the traffic AI. It's getting in the way big time, and I'm sitting here, driving lawfully, stopping at reds etc, and the other drivers aren't. Does anyone here drive? If so they'll know that traffic yields to oncoming - (using USA roads as an example) if you're turning left, you have to yield to the oncoming traffic as they have right of way. But in this game they don't there's a free for all (tbh GTA had the same issue at times). Red lights mean stop. Not to this game they don't.

It's a great game, but imo the traffic lets it down (i've lost a few cars due to it, and i've lost a few due to my own idiocy as well). I personally hope they patch it, but i don't think they will.

^ the traffic gripes of mine apply to being in a car btw. Sirens are not the problem, they seem to work well, though the horn don't seem to do jack tbh.

EDIT:

I've developed a theory, and that is this:

The "red light runners" appear to be turning right in junctions most of the time. Now, Americans can you answer me this: am i correct in saying in the state you can legally turn right at a red light?

Over here in the UK that is illegal, unless specified lanes for such are in place.

There has still been a few instances where a driver's run a red in this game and slammed into me as a result, and they clearly weren't turning right...

Yeah, I'm not sure about LA, but I know here it's legal to turn right on a red light, unless otherwise noted obviously, but there are areas around here that it's also illegal, and it sometimes varies from area to area within the state.

That kinda accounts for half of the AI running red lights thing I've noticed. Over here it is NOT legal, unless specified.

i just figured that in the 1940's people turning left had the right of way? like how now the left lane is apparently the slow lane, though 15 years ago it was definitely the right lane that is the slow lane ( USA driving here )..

i don't have so many problems with ppl turning right on red - maybe you have to remember if you are speeding they think it's clear because they expect you to be going slower..? i mean. i see it happen, but not to the extent that some posts are compaining about, at least i don't feel justified beefing about it. it's the unyielding left turns that get me. =/

that all said, the AI do use turn signals, and i've learned to watch out for it. part of the overall frustration i think is coming from driving heavy, ill handling boats with no ABS and poor acceleration. realistic, yeah, and much different from contemporary cars.

I was thinking of turning the gun combat setting to difficult, because it's one thing that's very familiar from one R*-grouped game to the next.

But yeah, thinking about it more after playing a bit, and I like how you have to actively think about the unfolding of each mission.

Yeah, but I meant the info like, "the music will stop playing if you leave a crime scene area. I miss some of those instructions.

Any chance of me taking IGN seriously anymore are out the window. Contradicted themselves in the review of this game and the 8.5 was a obvious excuse not to give it a perfect 10.

+ so many people are crying fowl that this game "sucked and is boring and NO MULTIPLAYER WAH"

No surprise that the point of the game went over so many peope's heads.

I haven't really bothered to read the topic as to avoid spoilers, but they could have relatively easily implemented co-op. A friend takes control of the partner, can find clues at the scenes, even implement a good cop/bad cop style interview system. Would've been fun.

Maybe if they make another game that's like this they'll at least throw that in. While I'm against multiplayer for this game, co-op would've definitely been fun.

who makes the calls on interrogations? Is it really coop or singleplayer +friend? Because Coop might sound fun on paper nothing takes the fun away more than taking a backseat for someone else. There is a very big reason your AI partner stands by while you do all the work.

I finished it last night, though the ending was okay, it did leave me wanting more, which I suppose is a good thing in some ways.
