Gamespot - 9.0? IGN - 8.5???

According to their standards, this game deserves more than that.

Yeah, it hasn't been doing the best in the reviews. It hasn't been doing too bad though. I guess there have been a few sticking points that have me worried. "Not very noire like", "Not as emotional as Heavy rain", and "monotonous". These aren't verbatim quotes. They might be, but I'm too lazy to look them up to confirm.

 

It's not gonna stop me from picking it up tomorrow.

Huge fan of Raymond Chandler, Anthony Mann, Otto Preminger and Robert Siodmak (etc, etc) here, but I haven't played my XBox 360 in quite literally months (probably the last time I 'played it' was last June when I had a quick game on FIFA 10). Post-Grad finished, work easing off, I'm thinking of finally blowing the dust off the controller and buying this game on friday, however somebody mentioned a few pages back that the game is three discs in length and that you have to 'install' the game on the XBox. Is this something new, or can I simply throw the disc in the console and start playing straight away without having to download updates, and install humanity, whilst reinvigorating the Cold War, etc?

No, there's no forced install or anything. You can just whack the disc in and start playing. You may have a forced title update but that will literally last like 10 seconds.

I was always thinking wether or not they would include flashbacks of Cole's military career because I read/heard he was a WW2 veteran. Not sure why that shows there is a chance it will be released on the PC. the article clearly states :-

 

 

“we do not have any plans for a PC/Mac version of L.A. Noire at this time.”

 

That is the exact same line they used with Red Dead Redemption and a year later some are still fruitlessly waiting for a 10 buck port of that too. It is my understanding that LA Noire uses a propriety game engine (unlike RDR which uses RAGE) that alone reduces any chance of it coming to the PC down to about absolute zero because they would have to port the whole game engine.

 

So no you are not going to see LA Noire on the PC, if you want to play this game you will have to do so on a console.

He prefers PC and I don't believe he owns a console, so why would he dish out a few hundred quid just to play a couple of exclusives.

 

I'm also not buying L.A. Noire because I'd much rather save this money for buying games that are on my preferred platform (not to mention the large amount of games actually being released).

Ok not just RDR but it was the first game i got for it.

Nah I tried a console once, bought one specifically for GTA 4. I got a months use out of it, then it went in the cupboard, about 3 months after that it went in the shed and a couple of months after that it went in the bin when I was clearing the shed out. I just don't get on with the things, I hate the control scheme with a f*cking passion and I hated the fact it was running games worse than my PC. So obviously consoles are not for me which is why I won't buy another console for any game no matter what it is and no matter who makes it. I just can't enjoy console gaming, that isn't to say console gaming is bad it is just to say I cannot enjoy games on a console.

Thanks for the reply there mate, I'm glad I don't have to install anything as I'd much prefer to get straight into story without having to download or install anything that would take a prolonged amount of time (essentially I am old school kind of guy, game/catridge in and press play, simple).

Yes Street Mix you unearthed my dastardly plan I am really a console fanboy . Oh hang on maybe I am stating the bleeding obvious perhaps ? I mean if you want to play LA Noire you need a console don't you ? If you want to play the YEAR OLD Red Dead Redemption you need a console don't you ? There is absolutely f*ck all evidence to suggest any Rockstar game other than Max Payne 3 (and I wouldn't put it past Rockstar to cancel the PC version of that or at least delay it for nearly a year after the console version) will come to the PC. Oh yeah there is ESRB an organisation that spends 99% of it's time putting the wrong information up and the other 1% of the time correcting that erroneous info.

 

But as always you are free to believe what you want to believe, if you honestly think LA Noire are going to come to the PC then there is nothing anyone can say that will change your belief in that. Now how about we let people get back to discussing LA Noire rather than dealing with fantasies.

I just found out they didn't announce the PC version of Red Dead Redemption on ESRB, which gives it a bigger chance for L.A. Noire to be ported to the PC (According to StreetMix). But in the end there is no solid proof, so no one really knows what will happen.

You can't really make a statement like that when you have exactly zero occurrences, sources or anything to back up your claim. They used the exact same quote when everyone was pestering them about the likelihood of a PC port for Grand Theft Auto IV, so it's entirely possible that there will eventually be a PC port for L.A. Noire.

 

You seem to be so firm in your hatred against Rockstar for "abandoning" PC gamers that you slate them at any given chance.

I seriously doubt it, but then again this is R* and they are weird with the way they play things. After only getting a bunch of 8.5s in the reviews today, I can see them deciding not to spend the resources just for a few more pennies. With their history of PC releases being a year+ after the console releases, it wouldn't be too odd to think that they never really know what is going to get a PC port these days until a few days into the console release.

 

We are all just excited gamers.

Yes I can because we have already seen an example of what happens when Rockstar says "we do not have any plans for a PC version". The example is RDR, it's been a year where is it ? oh yeah that's right we are meant to keep saying "oh it will be here in 2 years, no wait 3 years, oh now it will be 5 years". Now RDR would actually be a relatively easy port to the PC since they already have the RAGE engine "working" on the PC. Unfortunately LA Noire uses it's own propriety engine which they would have to port as well.

 

Oh and for the record as far as I know Rockstar NEVER said "we do not plan on bringing GTA 4 to the PC" whenever they were asked the official line was "we do not comment on unannounced titles" that is quite a bit different to what they are saying now with regard to LA Noire isn't it . The only time GTA 4 on the PC was ever denied was on a phoney website called Whatifgaming which refused to corroborate it's sources.

I think of Rockstar as a business, because that's exactly what they are. I don't take sides when it comes to game companies; I'd be just as quick to bash Rockstar or Valve as I would be to bash Activision or EA, if they do something that warrants bashing. I'm not even waiting for a PC copy myself, I own all the platforms. I just think you're jumping to conclusions far too quickly just because you're upset because, like I said, you feel "abandoned" or "betrayed" or whatever the f*ck.

 

The fact of the matter remains that there is no conclusive answer at this point. There may eventually be a PC port, there may not, but adamantly denying either possibility is asinine.

H'm. Should I also contribute to the PC debate? I was a PC gamer for a long time until it just became too impractical. You have to admit that PC gaming is impractical for a lot of people. Not all PCs (even top of the line) have the same stats, not all games perform the same. Because of this and other reasons (PIRACY!) it's also not practical for companies to focus on PC gamers. Even ports from consoles probably lose money in the long run.

Ah! I Pre-ordered it this weekend $88 Australian, i thought it would be more expensive.

I would like to say to you guys, when you play and post here, use SPOILER TAGS, i get the game 3 days later than the Americas so i don't really want people to spoil it for me.

I will try avoid this thread, but i wanna see some opinions so i probably will wonder in here.
