Only a week away now. Well, for paupers like me in the EU. I haven't hyped myself up for it as much as I did for IV, but I'm excited nonetheless.

 

 

Yeah, but it is based on the same period as Mafia II, which was one of the most boring eras ever.

 

You realise Mafia II took place over 2 different decades, right? The 40's and the 50's? And claiming that either of them was boring...well, I know you have an opinion, but I can't help but simply say "lol".

No, I just like to play the games which are fun. LA Noire and the direction that R* are taking doesn't convince me they going toward the "fun" factor anymore. It is all about realism now, which sucks IMO. I have given up hope with R* and looking for an alternative. If the Saints Row series can give the gamers what they want, which is fun, then it is a good game. LA Noire is just doesn't sound like a fun game to me. And I will end this here.

Rockstar didn't develope LA Noire. And GTA IV was basically a tech demo, they wanted to see what they could do with new hardware and software.

Drawing comparisons from this game to Mafia 2 is not a smart one, and it goes much, MUCH deeper than just "the same time era". This game is more akin to Heavy Rain than anything. And saying LA Noire "doesn't deserve 5/5" just because you don't like the time era it's set in is just as silly a statement to make. How would you know anything if you never even played it yet?

 

LA Noire is NOTHING like Saints Row or GTA so that is also a poor comparison to make. It's not trying to be a sandbox shoot-everyone game. Have you even read anything about this game other than looking at the front cover?

I think it will be a one-off. They will of course keep adding new stuff in form of DLC, but I don't think we will ever see a sequel. If we do however, it will probably be many years from now since R* don't like to milk franchises like some other companies do.

I won't be getting this on release, but it's not all bad because I can actually get it early June, btw I hope the PS3 version's extra content isn't something I'm going to be angry about missing, and it eventually comes to the 360.

Haven't even played it yet and I'm already craving a 70's version. It really depends on how successful it is, obviously. If it's a hit there will be sequels.

Definitely a one hitter quitter. However, that is unless this game sells off the charts, then Rockstar would definitely think about it. No cow is better than a cash cow.

Are you kidding? if you saw trailers you would know that it has nothing in common with mafia II.

Yeah, but it is based on the same period as Mafia II, which was one of the most boring eras ever. The music is crap, the cars are rubbish and slow and don't even mentioned about the weapons. I'll give this game a miss, thank you. Furthermore, critics nowadays give full marks to any crap being released anyway because they are "bought" by the developers. Just look at IV for example, it did not deserve the score of 10/10 the so-called "critics" has given and I believe a lot of forum members agree with me. So I am skeptical about the "score" given for LAN.

In this case any game passed Mario is just a rehash of the same jump on enemies BS.

I think they could have Phelps become a private investigator. Turn him into a real Philip Marlowe type sleuth. Go out looking for cases rather than them falling into his lap in the LAPD offices, tasks given by seedy movie producers or wealthy businessmen rather than a police captain. I really think this is possible; by the end of LA Noire, Phelps will probably be sick of the corruption in the LAPD and want to take his talents elsewhere. Working for himself with the talents for investigation he has acquired will allow him to make good money without seniors sh*tting on him.

 

From a gaming perspective it would be awesome too; on his own, Phelps would be in more danger, especially given the seedy nature of the crimes/cases that PIs are tasked to solve. This sense of isolation and danger would bring a new level of complexity to seasoned LA Noire players. Anyone can solve a crime in the light of day with a crime scene free to explore. How about at the dead of night before the cops arrive when you want to find and collect evidence for the corrupt bastards from LAPD homicide get their hands on it? When the murderer or an accomplice might still be lurking around ready to attack the sneaking Phelps?

 

I'd LOVE this. A world-weary, older Phelps in 1960s era Hollywood (he'd be in his fourties/fifties). Shuffling around solving crimes, smoking and spouting off sassy one-liners as 1960s America implodes around him. Does Cole Phelps agree?

... You can also jump around in IV . I don't understand why people already say that this game will such because its not fun and such. I don't think this ever has been done before, so how do you know? Exploring the 40's L.A. and driving around with classy cars while following the murder cases will be extremely fun, I'm sure of it.
