I'm mainly with GTAKing on this, they can't run away if they're dead, but I have noticed some pilots taking minimal damage and running for health which is kind of lame.

I think it's down to a case of preference, in the times I've been playing on the 360 to see it, the GTs have ben getting decent amounts of kills with the helicopters going for health. Makes going for that accurate shot even better rather than just shooting the helicopter until it blows up. Still, if the Health pack rule works on the PS3 then fair enough, but from what I've seen, I'm not sure whether it's needed in the same way for the 360 as the GTs still manage to rack up the kills.

Of course, I could be wrong given how I've only played saturday matches, but as I said, I don't think it's a necessity on the 360.

From what I've seen as well (and personal experience), an M4 is much easier to light up a heli with than a sniper, plus I (personally) find it easier to shoot out an orbiting pilot with an M4 than a sniper.

It's probably because of the sniper being in first person which makes it harder to follow the target. Also, the M4 shoots a lot faster so it should be easier for a spread of bullets to hit the pilot (even in the head sometimes). In the Grinder match though where helicopters are pretty much limited to diving and hovering (or orbiting is restricted), the Combat Sniper may be quite more useful.

Sure is, but it's a lot more satisfying taking them out with one perfectly placed sniper round. Leaves those cocky pilots in a daze! wink.gif

About the no-healthpack rule again: seeing as we have a lot of rookie pilots on Xbox, would it be an idea to have this rule only for the "elite" pilots? Some pilots are struggling as it is and I think a no-healhpack rule would completely take away any fun they might be having (trust me, it's quite frustrating to go through all the trouble of getting a new helicopter only to be shot down in a couple seconds without even getting a bead on your target).

I'm cool with that as long as the only pilots in the air during trial games are rookies and not Elite pilots in disguise !! can't say I have noticed any rookies recently it seems to be the same pilots on both days ??

About Pilot Health Getting:  For about half the time we have been doing these matches, it has been somwhat of a Gentleman's Agreement that Pilots were not to get health.  It is why we instituted the Kamikazi rule.  Maybe it needs to be a steadfast rule. idk

fighting Helis that don't die is no fight at all!

I think 360 GT's just got an early xmas present wink.gif Ground will definitely have higher kill counts with this applied. This could really help our game's scoring closer. Booze, will the 360 pilots be held at the same standards?

EDIT - just read above comment. I can rarely make Trials anyway, but I agree, elite pilots should not need to get health packs. We should try this for a couple weeks to see if this improves the overall game for us.

These matches are held every Sunday at 2pm EST (7pm GMT) and will be hosted by either The_Owl, Bates_GTA or ChristopherD. They are intended to provide a place for the Captains to make sure that you have an idea of how the matches work and for them to see if you have the skills to get into the Elite Match.

1. There is a 5 minute delay in action to provide players to arm up or get Helis.

2. With one minute left before action (4 min. into the match) it is time to get to the battle field. You should already know where to go...

3. Take orders from the Captain!

Hey, ChristopherD/AllPilotsMustDie. From all of the videos I have been seeing, I became immensely intrigued by your A-G wars. Doing some matches with you guys would be an honor! I will not be offended if you do not invite me, as I can see how very popular this event appears to be.

In any case...

PSN = GaySasquatch

Yes, I do have a microphone.

Hey Nemonic! Missed your post...sorry about that! Usually I have the players send AllPilotsMustDie a friend request...but since I missed your post (was cought up in the 'Pilots Getting health' debate), I will send you a request this evening.

We no longer have a Trial Match on the PSN side, so make sure you read the rules on the 1st page and follow them. PSN players have gotten good at quickly kicking anyone that doesnt follow the rules. We also quickly go over them on the mic before the match, so no worries.

Welcome to The War! cool.gificon14.gif

NEXT PSN MATCH: Saturday, Nov. 28 2pm S.E. US - 7pm UK time

ok so I have a question about turbo controllers.. do they actually work on the PS3 side or is what Im about to say just a coincidence? Reason I ask is last night I was in a team deathmatch with auto aim off and just assault rifles at the airport. I get killed by a level 1 multiple times and twice out of the multiple times i had full health and armor now I had an M4 and he had an AK because he had just respawned and to my knowledge the M4s range is a little longer than an AK so Im standing still waiting for him just to enter my range with the M4 dead on his head. He stops and I can see him pointing at me yet hes still out of my range and within 1 second Im dead I mean from the time i had full armor and health to the second I died it was extremely fast!!! wow.gif This happened twice! So Im telling myself its either lag or a lag switch hes using. I go and get an annihilator come back and find him crouched waitin for me, i know Im not one of the best pilots out there but if its one thing im extremely good at is staying out of range of M4s and AKs in wide open areas, so Im telling myself yea f*cker now what kill me now and start firing on him and he returns fire and hits me twice and my health is blinking red so im looking at my bottom left GPS map and i was way out of his range so i drift off to get further away from him I fire back and kill him as hes trying to run for cover. I grab a health pack and follow his blip to where he respawned. Again hes out in the open to where I can circle around him in full 360 degree and way out of range, this time though I dont shoot at him but instead let him shoot at me and again he hits me once and before I knew it my chopper is beeping and on fire within a matter of 10 15 seconds so Im like wtf?! no one else is near us, so I grab a health pack and head towards someone else and start firing and I can see them return fire now i get really close to them so i can hear what type of gun they have and clearly it sounds like an M4 so i start drifting away further and further until i see their bullets just out of my range and look at my map and im alot closer to this guy than the other guy, so I go back to the guy Im having trouble with and Im at about same circling height and alot further from bullet range that I just measured. i circle around him and about 4 or 5 seconds later he shoots me out of the chopper! angry.gif It was a 30 minute match and at the end the kid had 63 kills at a level 2 so he had just ranked up because before the match he was a level 1 no one in there was anywhere near 30 kills! they guy is in a clan named prodigy and his name in the clan is boricua something like ProdiGy_BoriCua or some crap like that. Was that a turbo controller or wtf???

Sounds more like a Glitch Switch to me...Had the turbo for a while (sold it cuz I hated it) and it does NOT increase range.

With a glitch switch (or lag switch), the player on your screen will look like they are one place, but will actually be shooting you from somewhere else. This would account for why it looked to you like he was out of range, but in reality, he was much closer. Also, with a glitch switch, I think (dont know for sure in that have never actually seen one from the glitchers point of view) that it freezes the other players in place while the glitcher can run free, so makes everyone an extremely easy target.

There IS a small way to combat this...but takes some practice. On the ground, you can see who is using a switch by the fact that they will teleport, or if they hit the switch while running you will see them running forward in the same place over and over. I know that this looks like anyone else who might lag normally, but these guys ONLY seem to do it when you are shooting at them, or at some other key moment.

Once you have determined that they are doing this, shoot them like normal. It will be confusing cuz they won't seem to take any damage. This is not the case...they just won't take the damage until they come back into real time!

So, Shoot them like normal (enough for a kill) and stop shooting them and move to cover...and wait!

I did this to a glitcher and, while he still won cuz I couldn't get it right everytime, the game was VERY close and the guy messages me that it was impossible that I could kill him like that! Was VERY upset. One of the best Hate Mail I ever got!!! devil.giflol.gif

I SO hate those f*ckers!!!

good advice Chris, I have done that and it worked quite well. I can tell you this, on tbogt and on vanilla gta I have sniped players that are so far away I cannot see them and I can verify on tbogt the sniper bullet as far as I can tell has no limit to its range, a friend of mine were screwing around in freemode and we were testing the limits of the explosive sniper and the range is limitless

On gta iv on the ps3, I’ve never seen any evidence of someone going through a clip of ammo in the second or so they are supposed to be able to achieve with the xbox using a turbo controller. So for me, the turbo as it is regarded on the xbox does not exist on the ps3 in gta iv, and certainly not in the AG war.

Not going for life did slow the game down a lot for a while, but then we got the taxis so now it’s not so bad. The GT taxi pilots are all utter maniacs and love pulling all kinds of stunts to prove to us what maniacs they are, but it adds to the fun and they definitely speed the game up.

I rate the M4 generally as the nastiest weapon on the GT side. After that I place the rpg, then the sniper rifle.

Hmm, I've had this happen on the 360 side, but a couple of questions/things:

1) Was it reticule health off? I mean no offence by this but the ranges can become a little confusing without this and I've thought similar things at times, only to realise the reticule health was turned off and they were in normal range.

2) If he was in a clan, it suggests that it's either a fresh account with an experienced player (who had a previous account), someone who plays in FM to become very good, then goes on to TDMs (as I did, where I achieved a similar amount of kills as a rank 2), or a turbo who's quite good.

3i) As to the 'orbiting' part of it, it could be that he's a good shot. I've seen people on the PS3 shoot out orbiters in seconds on youtube. If they're any similar to the level of some 'anti-orbiters' on the 360, it could just be that they're very good at it. I know that it takes me about 2 clips of the M4 to set a helicopter on 3 fires when they're orbiting me, and that takes about 10 seconds on average (when they're directly orbiting me) and if they're in range, about the same with an AK.

3ii) Although it might have seemed that you missed them a lot when you were orbiting them, it could be that they were on very very low health (blinking red) and that last shot just wasn't happening (this has happened to me many times on the 360), without the blip to 'flash' it can be quite hard to determine this.

But on, the flip side of this, they could have had a turbo and were just good with it. If they had a lag switch, as Chris said, just shoot them enough for them to die and then move on, they should die like normal, but it'll take a little bit longer. Still, chances are that you won't meet many people like this, but if you do find someone adept at shooting you out when you orbit them, a few tips are as follow (based on Disallow):

1) Do NOT keep a constant height, try going up and down a bit when you orbit. This takes practice, but makes it far harder for you to get shot out.

2) If you don't aleady, try to orbit really good players with the Left bumper/PS3 equivalent. For some reason it is just harder for someone on the ground to shoot out a pilot orbiting this way unless they've specifically practiced at doing it.

3i) Speed, when you approach, approach into a constant speed circle, if you slow down to start a circle, you have a higher chance of being shot out.

3ii) When you re-adjust midair, do NOT slow down, as that's all it takes most decent ground shooters to take you out of your heli.

4) Get armour and make sure it's full (same with health) before attacking! It's not 'cheating' or classed as a 'bad tactic' in my books and it will help you survive if you're being shot at.

5) Avoid them. If all else fails, they continually shoot you out, try and avoid them if you can. Don't get drawn in by the prospect of killing them, it's just not worth it, accept that for whatever reason they can shoot you well and move on to an easier target.

There's also how you orbit too, a really good tactic that some (only a few who are really, I mean really good at it) pilots use on the 360, where they 'strafe' the helicopter in at speed, then fly away and come back into a circle a short time later. This takes practice, but once you can do it, it makes it very hard for someone with a M4/AK to shoot you out on your approach, and if it works you can nail them for a lot of damage. It does take practice though.

even the good pilots who are dicks on tbogt hold down the rocket and gun button just because it makes there job of ruining your playing time that much easier. If you cant stand up you cant shoot back.

I'm not sure if any of the GTs (or Pilots for that matter) are interested, but I've made a written copy of the technique I use for shooting down orbiters on the 360/PS3. It includes generic tips on shooting and what I consider to be the best way for shooting down pilots.

I'm not going to lie, it is a bit long, but it goes into how to do everything I do with it based on:

Disallow aim

Standard control settings (where holding down LT aims instead of LB)

So if you're interested please just send me a PM asking for a copy, just say whether it's for the 360 or PS3*. smile.gif

* With the PS3, I'm not sure whether the buttons are similar and can't check as I don't have one, but I have included what I think are the respective buttons.

I pretty much stay with the M4 and RPG. M4 does huge damage even if you miss the pilot, plus I love seeing them have full health/armor and that moment where you hit them, they panic, pull up + back as fast as they can (which I try to follow with a nice RPG gift). I love the sniper but for whatever reason, I'm just not great against pilots with it.

A technique I've been using (and I don't mind sharing as there isn't much they can do) is aiming more for the chopper blades than the chopper itself. There is more surface area to hit when firing from below and while a shot directed at the chopper itself is easy to dodge, most of the pilots don't really seem to think about their blades so much as the body of the chopper itself. Dunno if that's helpful or not.

EDIT: 'lungs, any decent pilot would simply glitch under the map and kill you from below.

@SuperJude: Yeah, a RPG grenade to the rotors works just as well. The bad thing is that it may just disable the helicopter instead of blowing it up making it one of those situations and not counting it as a kill.

@johnwontscore: My friend right now has my Turbo, but when I get it back I can show you it on MP if I get online (not offensively though or for cheating). There is also this thing called XCM which can convert a PS3 controller to a Xbox 360 controller or a Xbox 360 controller to a PS3 controller with Turbo functions.

I thought I heard about regular rapid fire controllers for PS3? And there's always the FragFX v2, which has a very nasty turbo function as well.

Oh and guys, when I said no healthpacks for the elite pilots, I didn't mean the pilots in the elite match. Some pilots play in the elite match who I don't think can be classified as elite and vice versa. So pilots like me, Mae, Delta and King are not allowed healthpacks, in the Elite OR the Trial match.

Booze - if the pilots aren't gonna get health and aren't gonna spawn rape, is there anything the GT's could change to compensate these changes ? maybe something like not going inside of interiors but definitely not something like set the weapons to melee !!

Link to comment

Well, the whole objective of implementing these rules was to bring back the balance, so no, the GT's should be able to do as they like. It will however mean that the (already elusive) Pilot medals will be even harder to get, but that's not a major issue.

If i'm honest the health pack issue doesn't really bother me its sort of become part of the game now, although I do think it would be fun to trial it just for the increase in kamikazes !! the spawn raping does piss me off but only really happens at the airport, so if that could be removed I'd be more than happy smile.gif

They patched that glitch on tbogt so they cannot do that anymore. icon14.gif

Score one for the ground guys, way to go R*.

Booze I saw your video on the tbogt air/ground battle. Looks awesome but with the rockets from the buzzard I dont see the ground team having any sort of a chance.

So there are no under the map glitches in TBoGT?

-SJ™

There are still a fair few to get a character under the map, but from all the ones me and my friends have tried, there are none to get a helicopter or vehicle under. The only exception (if it still works, and I haven't tried it), is the container glitch (with a buzzard). But even if that works it would be very unreliable.

Booze: has Chris finalised the pilot medal list? I thought it was still under review.

Dorian: I’d be very interested in flying against that turbo of yours to see if it’s anything that I recognise. It would be good to be able to identify it (Psn: johnwontscore).

Jude: when shooting at choppers with RPGs, I also like to aim at the rotors. I go for the centre where they meet the body of the chopper. It seems to get a more reliable kill when you hit them; though I saw for the first time my rpg deflecting of a chopper’s blades the other day – that guy was so lucky. Best advice I can give about RPGs is try to use the first one well and make it count, because once a pilot knows there are RPGs about he’ll start getting a lot harder to hit.

not sure but these pilots ( they seem to be an elite pilot, orbiting like a pro and what not ) either have not tried it or have not been successful in doing it. But I have not heard them talk about it.
