Huh? I simply ageed to the above post. What's wrong with that? You don't always have to write a 10-row post. Everything I wanted to say was written above. This is a weird forum.. I guess we aren't allowed to voice our opinions here.  icon13.gif

And with all due respect, sir, I comment to whatever I want to, whenever I want to. Period. if you don't like it, don't read it.

Over and out!

Well you can voice your opinion except what you did is spam. Just a heads up. icon14.gif

BTW are the drivers for every single Nvidia card or just the high end ones?

If you havent reinstalled a fresh copy of windows in 6 months or longer,

its not the drivers, its windows.

I reinstall windows every 60-80 days.

Yeah, that seems a little extreme, doesn't it? Plus it isn't necessary; a good cleanup with CCleaner is all thats needed, not a whole OS reinstallation every 2 months rolleyes.gif

Erm even I have to say that is a bit extreme, sure in the old days with win95/98 it was probably recommended you reinstall the os ever 6 damn hours. However with newer OS's like Winxp/Vista/Win7 there really is no need to do continual reinstalling.

If memory serves my last Vista install on here was nearly a year old and still running perfectly well and running GTA 4 fine. Re-installing a modern OS every 60-80 days is just a tad bit over the top.

That's what they say, but only the latest cards actually benefit from the new drivers. After a certain time they quit improving performance on older cards. Apart from GTA IV, all the other games run equal, no matter what drivers I use (after 180.XX if I'm not wrong).

So if your games are running fine, don't bother installing new drivers everytime they release one pack. Unless you always have their latest graphics installed, of course.

RobCardIV: That's a bit too much, isn't it? All the Windows versions since XP can work for a long time without having to be reinstalled. It's just a matter of keeping things clean, using CCleaner, defrag, etc.

I reinstall my OS when I feel it's too slow and there's not way to get it running great again. Normally that means 8/9 months.

I thought I was bad for reinstalling my XP rig once every year - year and a half and my vista rig will see it's first format in a bit under 2 years.

6 times a year tho... wow.

only Win + driver +game then u will hav super fun!!!!!

Some, if not most, of us use our computers for things other than playing a single, $50 video game. Reinstalling and reconfiguring 20 to 50 other applications as well takes a lot longer than an hour. suicidal.gif

this update actually WORKS for once! I got more stable framerate in GTA IV so far.

Win7 candidate

2GB RAM

NVIDIA EN8600GT 512mb

AMD Athlon 2.66Ghz dual-core

my guess is that the framerate is around 30FPS. because from around 20-25 I notice slight "lag" like in GTA SA's frame limiter. lets hope NVIDIA does a good job on the next final versions. the betas were bad for my gaming experience heh.

see ya!

After installing these drivers I could not longer run gta4 in sli and performance visually decreased. They helped with other games, sims 3 to be exact.

Anyway they are not designed specifically for gta4 but i thought i would share my experience smile.gif

Looks like these sorta fixed my Shadow Quality problem...Well atleast its playable now...

Edit..Nvm This game acts like it has a memory leak now.....Playable at first then just gets worse...

Under Windows 7 32/64, that problem completely vanished for me.

Well I was a bit bored so I thought I would batter my crappy ole dualcore + 8800gts and see what the deal was with these new drivers. Nothing exciting from what I can see :-

Before :-

Statistics

Average FPS: 35.81

Duration: 37.23 sec

CPU Usage: 90%

System memory usage: 88%

Video memory usage: 74%

Hardware

Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Service Pack 3

Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

Video Driver version: 178.24

Audio Adapter: Realtek HD Audio output

Intel® Core2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz

After :-

Average FPS: 39.49

Duration: 37.25 sec

CPU Usage: 96%

System memory usage: 83%

Video memory usage: 73%

Hardware

Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Service Pack 3

Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

Video Driver version: 190.38

Audio Adapter: Realtek HD Audio output

Intel® Core2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz

So basically a 4fps boost with the new drivers compared to the old drivers I was using (they date back to Noah's time). On the face of that I think I will skip upgrading the drivers on my quadcore for now. I basically think we have seen all the "extra" performance we are going to get out of Nvidia.

what is your full PC spec? your RAM? and what graphic settings are u having on your game?

I have 8800GTS as well as a Core 2 Q6600 CPU and Windows XP SP3, but I'm only managing around 15-20FPS....why?

iTRiP, what has having more than one PC got to do with anything? I have FOUR PC's and TWO laptop's, but as i know how to maintain and run them properly, i find about once a year i will re-install everything, usually following a major upgrade, otherwise they run excellently, no laggy PC's in my life, so i'm not sure what you do to your pc's that fecks them up so badly you need to reinstall constantly, or is it all the trojan you get from visiting "gentlemen's websites" LOL. wink.gif

I reinstall windows every 60-80 days.

You are wasting your time and energy doing something that is completely unnecessary. These are not the Windows 95 days anymore, the OS has been improved greatly and do not need to be reinstalled in order to work well.

I have had the same OS install for years and my game performance monitors and temperature readouts are exactly the same as they were when I first installed.

GTA IV plays just as fast as it always had done and my system boots up extremely quickly.

I can only imagine that you are doing something to your system that makes you feel the need to reinstall every 60 days.

There are also quicker ways of going back to a fresh install by using snapshot images which wil save you from the install time too. Time is precious, it is not about laziness.

Installed the drivers the other day, I got like double the framerate in TF2 (was probably due to some other reason though) but my GTA IV framerate was the same.

rampage_ani.gif JUST to come back on the whole reinstall of ur OS'.... i like too be sure about all the things eating up my REGiSTRY and my RAM , in fact i'm allmost 99% convinced by the way my pc opperates' @ cluttered install( 10-20 apps+

3-8 games)EXpl....Vs.... Neat or kleen install (OS+Driver+game or two and a app

or two)EXpl. so in my oppinion works like this the best for me.

dozingoff.gif i do however when i 'm bored with a game tend to try out some downloads or demos , watch some porn or whateva u know and all dat tends too so down (load time and long play times) EXpl. GTA iV runs smooth for like 1-4 hours then goes slower ++++ laggy'er after dat amount of time and i know it's not over heating for a fact ....BUT then again iT's just my OPPiNiON~!LOL inlove.gif

rampage_ani.gif GREAT REPLy's thou , i think i will try out 190 Vs. 177 (9~G`FORCE)

this weekend so my`be i'll hav some news on dat for all n' u all who allso hav a simillar pc with 9 series G~FORCE GPU.

PS: i tested 180.** Vs. 177.** not looking goed ~! (177.**still tops)....

People that type this poorly need to be shot. I'm not even close to kidding. Attempting to read that gave me the same feeling that one would get after 30 minutes of banging ones head on a desk.

Not speaking clear English is one thing, typing with random capital letters and incredibly poor use of punctuation is another (see the random ~'s).

Spelling is important if you want other people to bother reading your posts.

I bet most people just skip your post after having read the first two lines, because the spelling is so poor, it makes my head hurt.

How can i even test this when drivers dont work for me, everytime i update to a new driver i just get a black screen while at the desktop and then i need to start in safe mode and roll back to the drivers i got on the cd, xfx gtx 260 btw also quad core @ 2.33 and vista 32... why is this happening to me? sad.gifsad.gif

i had to download them to play ghostbusters, my game would just freeze as soon as i started moving in the first mission without these drivers. later, when i was playing ghostbusters, it would freeze very often, the screen would go black and the game's textures would be switching every couple of seconds (random textures like wheels of cars and characters faces). i thought it was an issue with the game, and was ready to return it, but then i see this happening in almost every game i have. i'll have to wait for the next release to play ghostbusters, but for now i'm going back to my old drivers, nvidia has really disappointed me this time. even worse, the games that DO work right with the new drivers (fear2) now have worse performance. confused.gif

not gtaiv related, sorry, but it's a thread about nvidia drivers so i guess it's ok...

EDIT: @Chris1508: have you tried a "clean install"? delete old drivers, start computer in safe mode and then install new drivers. i don't trust nvidia's install that's supposed to replace old drivers, because it f*cks things up more often than not. once, when i was installing new drivers, it deleted my old drivers without installing the new ones, and it said the install was finished. i thought my graphics card was fried sad.gif.
