(Feel free to go off on a rant about the studio system, or the increasing trend of remakes): In your opinion what was the best decade for film?: I think 00's is probably the best, the range of films being produced nowadays is one of the industries strong points. Hart
Nice, hopefully everyone reads them all. I had fun reading yours, although for your favourite CGI the T-Rex was mostly animatronics wasn't it? I only recall a short bit when it's getting attacked by raptors at the end that was CGI and it looked alright I guess. I've noticed I have a couple similar to yours: Big Favourites What is your favourite movie ever?: The Deer Hunter Who is your favourite Actor ever?: Robert De Niro Who is your favourite actress ever?: Sigourney Weaver Who is your favourite Director ever?: Kubrick Do you watch foreign language films at all? If so, what is your favourite foreign language film ever?: Seven Samurai What is your favourite scene in a film ever?: Probably the Terminator tech-noir scene or the bit in TGTBTU where Tuco is looking for the grave. What is your favourite line in a film ever?: "Told you I'm never going back" from Heat. Movie/Film Do you prefer the term movie or film? (Or Both): Film, movie feels like a cheesy american action. What do you feel is the most important aspect of a film? (Story, the actors, the director, lighting etc): The actors and the director. You can have a simple plot but is amazing because of the actors and directing, but a really nice story can be turned to sh*t by them too. How often on average do you visit the cinema in a year?: Once or twice. What films do you typically tend to watch at the cinema? (Blockbuster, Art-house etc): Blockbusters usually, I save all other types of films for DVD. What is your opinion of the film industry at the moment? (Feel free to go off on a rant about the studio system, or the increasing trend of remakes): It seems to be doing okay, but like you say the recent trend of remakes is getting a bit tiresome. Soon we'll see remakes of the remakes. In your opinion what was the best decade for film?: This is a hard one. Probably the 60's and early 70's, especially because some of Kubrick's best came out then and defines cinema to this day. Music in Film What is your favourite piece of music ever used in film?: Ecstasy of Gold by Ennio Morricone And what is your favourite music moment in a film ever?: Ending of Heat, MASSIVE SPOILERS. Special Effects What has been your favourite use of CGI in a film ever?: The massive monster that walks over the car in The Mist. What has been your favourite moment of 'old school' special effects in a film ever?: All the transformations in The Thing. Do you feel there is any place for 'old school' special effects in film today?: Yes, as long as they are touched up with CGI just a little bit. The old school effects make it seem like it's really there as an object and not just an image, while the touching up allows for some details to be more realistic. Home Cinema What do you watch films on? (TV, PC Monitor, iPod?!): TV, sometimes PC. Do you have a surround sound setup? If so how big is it?: No. What current format do you currently collect film on? (DVD, Blu-Ray...Laserdisc): DVD, you put Laserdisc in for Slamman eh? Are you going to make the switch to Blu-ray at any point in the future?: I don't think so, unless DVD is completely disbanded, which won't happen. Roughly how many films do you own on all formats?: I really don't know, probably over 250. Do you ever buy special edition versions of films or films that come in exclusive packaging etc? Or do you tend to buy 'vanilla' discs (Films with little or no extras): For films I really like I get the special edition (I have an awesome Taxi Driver one, comes with cool postcards too.) but for, let's say, action films I usually get the standard version. Do you buy TV shows on home cinema and if so, what shows do you collect mainly? Childhood TV shows I enjoyed, Only Fools & Horses, TMNT, Fresh Prince etc Have you ever collected the complete collection of a certain show or do you have lots of incomplete shows?: For Only Fools I have them all but for the other two I just have random episodes/seasons. Genre Moments What is your favourite comedy moment from a film? Well it's a bit over-acted if you watch it now, but on Airplane! when the woman playing guitar knocks the tube out of the boy who is ill. I used to piss myself so much. What is your favourite scary moment in a film? Evil Dead, when she's reading out the cards and she turns around possessed and starts floating. That sh*t me up as a kid. Or something from IT the clown scared me too. What is your favourite romantic moment in a film? Ahem, does the sex scene from Basic Instinct count? What is your favourite death scene in a film? Deer Hunter spoilers: When Nicky dies at the end, very emotional for me. What is your favourite action moment in a film? They're coming outta the goddamn walls! What is your favourite 'tearjerker' moment in a film? Look at favourite death scene ^. What is your favourite chase scene from a film? The end of Carlito's Way when Pacino is running away from those guys. Very tense. What is your favourite stunt from a film? I don't really have one sorry. Miscellanous Questions Do you keep up to date with film news? If so, what sources of information do you use?: GTAF Do you own any film props or memorabilia? If so, make a list...: I have a small prop of Alien and the egg, a talking Grasshopper from A Bug's Life too, haha. The Future of Film How long do you think Blu-Ray will last before it's death?: 10 years max I reckon. What do you see for the future of home cinema?(Write as much as you want): It'll become much bigger than it is today, and that's saying a lot. I'd much rather watch a film at home than go to the cinema. What changes in films do you see in the near future? (3D, advances in filmmaking, will the recession affect it): 3D will die off eventually then have a big comeback, CGI will dominate all actions films even more so than it does now, but there will always be hidden gems out there. What changes do you see in cinemas in the near future? (Bigger cup holders?): Hopefully less sticky carpets. Is there an actor or actress that you think will become a huge success within the next 10 years?: I want to see Paddy Considine in more films! Which film do you look forward most to coming to the cinema? (Any film project that is in development, whatever stage of development it is): District 9, shaping up to one helluva ride. Goodfella.
Big Favourites What is your favourite movie ever?: Spider-Man 2 Who is your favourite Actor ever?: Robert Downey, Jr. Who is your favourite actress ever?: Jennifer Connelly...? Who is your favourite Director ever?: Chan-wook Park Do you watch foreign language films at all? If so, what is your favourite foreign language film ever?: Oldboy What is your favourite scene in a film ever?: Travis Bickle sitting infront of his television set watching Soul Train. Jackson Brown's Late for the Sky plays as he aims his gun at the screen, he pulls it back and rests it against his head. In the silence you get a glimpse of how sad and lonely this man is. I thought it was beautifull. What is your favourite line in a film ever?: "Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy sh*t we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off." - Tyler Durden Movie/Film Do you prefer the term movie or film? (Or Both): Film. I think film just sounds a more respectable, when you say film it sounds like something of quality, where's movie makes me think summer popcorn flick. What do you feel is the most important aspect of a film? (Story, the actors, the director, lighting etc): Hrmm, they're all important elements, I don't think I could pick one. Though if I had to I'd say director, as I guess it's kind of their job to make sure the rest are in check, or damn well do their best to make them work if not. How often on average do you visit the cinema in a year?: Five, maybe. What films do you typically tend to watch at the cinema? (Blockbuster, Art-house etc): Blockbusters that I think deserve to be seen on a big screen, also art-house/foreign cinema just incase I don't get the chance to see them on the big screen again and will regret it later on. What is your opinion of the film industry at the moment? (Feel free to go off on a rant about the studio system, or the increasing trend of remakes): Obviously Hollywood is scraping the barrel when pretty much every 'classic' horror film is being remade and they start opting for film adaptions of Monoply. What really grinds my gears these days though is movie fans. We live in an age where everyone has anything they want at their fingertips. Long gone are the days where you'd run to the record store on the day an album is being released, run home, admire the artwork and listen to it without knowing what to expect. Long gone are the days when you can walk into a film without any expectations whatsoever. These days any f*ckhead who can pay for hosting suddenly has an opinion that matters. People are sending scene by scene twitter updates whilst watching a film. Bar the odd exception most of the time the majority just are never satisfied with the entertainment they're handed and would prefer just to piss and moan. It makes me sick when certain people can't even think for theirselves or form their own opinion, naming no names. I no doubt sound like a grumpy old bastard, but hey... that's just how I see it. In your opinion what was the best decade for film?: I don't think there was one. Music in Film What is your favourite piece of music ever used in film?: The track 'Moving On' from the Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. And what is your favourite music moment in a film ever?: Probably 'Uncle f*cker' from South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut. I just love the tap dancing-esque fart breakdown. Fight Club, 'Where Is My Mind?'. Also Hellboy 2, can't smile without you. Special Effects What has been your favourite use of CGI in a film ever?: Jurassic Park, when the T-rex breaks out of it's paddock and strolls infront of the car. I remember sitting in the cinema and my breath being taken away. What has been your favourite moment of 'old school' special effects in a film ever?: I have very fond memories of the animation from Clash of the Titans, if that counts. Do you feel there is any place for 'old school' special effects in film today?: Definitely, to an extent. I mean in my opinion if you look at the animatronics/cgi mix of the first two Jurassic Park films compared to the third, it looks like the creatures could actually be touched. Also with films like Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy 2. Home Cinema What do ou watch films on? (TV, PC Monitor, iPod?!): TV. Do you have a surround sound setup? If so how big is it?: I do, but I rarely use it to be honest. What current format do you currently collect film on? (DVD, Blu-Ray...Laserdisc): DVD. Are you going to make the switch to Blu-ray at any point in the future?: Not at all. I'd only do that if I had a good setup to play them on. I doubt I'll be purchasing one when I move out. Roughly how many films do you own on all formats?: Roughly 250, I think. Do you ever buy special edition versions of films or films that come in exclusive packaging etc? Or do you tend to buy 'vanilla' discs (Films with little or no extras): I'm a sucker for special edition films, especially if they have exclusive packaging. My favourites being my Shaun of the Dead in a white slipcase with the red zombie hand, and my Iron Man steelbook. Do you buy TV shows on home cinema and if so, what shows do you collect mainly? Generally the golden stuff from HBO, The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Band of Brothers. Also good British comedy, The Office, Spaced etc. My next purchase will be The Wire. Have you ever collected the complete collection of a certain show or do you have lots of incomplete shows?: I usually have the urge to complete the collection. I've done so with Futurama for example. Genre Moments What is your favourite comedy moment from a film? Me, Myself & Irene "f*ck my ozone" What is your favourite scary moment in a film? Seven, the man strapped to the bed. What is your favourite romantic moment in a film? I'm a sucker for romance, I just can't think. right now. What is your favourite death scene in a film? What is your favourite action moment in a film? Spider-Man 2, the runnaway train. What is your favourite 'tearjerker' moment in a film? Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, when Jim Carrey's character is driving in the rain and you can hear Beck's version of Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime. Also despite absoloutley loving Stand By Me I find it quite painfull to watch. What is your favourite chase scene from a film? Peter chasing after Uncle Ben's killer in the first Spider-Man. What is your favourite stunt from a film? I know it's very recent, but I was blown away by the stuntwork at the end of Death Proof. Miscellanous Questions Do you keep up to date with film news? If so, what sources of information do you use?: www.superherohype.com, imdb, Empire. Do you own any film props or memorabilia? If so, make a list...: I have a jacket very similar to Wolverine's in X-Men 1, lol. The Future of Film How long do you think Blu-Ray will last before it's death?: 10 years, roughly. What do you see for the future of home cinema?(Write as much as you want): No idea. What changes in films do you see in the near future? What changes do you see in cinemas in the near future? (Bigger cup holders?): Smell-o-vision. Is there an actor or actress that you think will become a huge success within the next 10 years?: I agree with Pandazoot, Joseph Gordon Levitt. I'm also glad to see Ryan Reynolds becoming a big star, I used to be a fan of his when he was on Two Guys, a girl and a pizza place. Which film do you look forward most to coming to the cinema? (Any film project that is in development, whatever stage of development it is): World War Z, Captain America, Spider-Man 4. Edited July 17, 2009 by Goodfella. Slamman
I don't bother with surveys much, but I've always said Terminator and perhaps Road Warrior as my favorite films. I am into both action and humor, and it does cover a lot of ground. I see far less these days then I did. I'll have a pic uploaded of JUST some of my LaserDiscs collected, and you can see the shelf buckling under the sheer weight of them!

Slamman
The problem perhaps, CURRENT is not LaserDisc, VHS, OR BETA, but I still collect movies in any format I own. Obviously starting with Betamax for home collecting. Yes, I collect Special Editions, and I love them, I made a topic some time ago to discuss them. I also love TV on DVD, I prefer owning things physically. I watch Home Cinema which I prefer, but the theatrical experience cannot be replicated at home, it's why movies have MIGRATED to Imax presentation. It's also very interesting to me, not the format specifically BUT What GTAF members here have 6 or 7 channel SURROUND SOUND? I was going to ask this but never recalled it at the time. Digital Dolby AC-3 codec opened the door for home optical discs, but cinema in the theater used multiChannel audio on their film stock, so it could be preserved from very old RoadShow pictures in fact. As for future movie stars, let's hope it's not the TWILIGHT cast!!

Slamman
I expressed to one mod already, I am NON CONFORMIST and it should be obvious, however, some questions I had an answer for, though I feel it changes and often memory is only as good as the day you use it. REALLY, consider how many movies have EVER been made, what you've seen since you were born. There's a bit too many to narrow anything down to one that would remain in the top slot, I am not trying to irk everyone, mind you, but I do like posts where you don't see 800 questions repeated... Only some of which are filled out. Also note, to me, looking at a page on Playstation's browser, or similar, that is not as handy at large data formatting, It's cumbersome. It why I object to quote trains. I was looking at a number of web pages on PS3 tonight and to keep track of where you are when reading is a PITA. For the sake of playing by any needed rules, Here's the defacto Template, and I will proceed to edit the post if anything changes.. This can waste a lot of Bandwidth depending on how many people reply, if you ask me, sure it's only text, but it's a bit too many [questions] for one topic, perhaps.? ================================ Big Favourites What is your favourite movie ever?: T1 Who is your favourite Actor ever?:Arnie and Mel Who is your favourite actress ever?:Don't have one, I can't single one out Who is your favourite Director ever?:John McTeirnan (he is good!) Mav.
f*ck. I answered the first question easy...Casablanca. No doubt about it. But from then on, I could eaily name about 5 different answers for each section. SO with that being said, I cannot complete this survey. I love films just way to much to narrow each question down to one answer and if I was able to put more than one, well I'd be here all f*cking night . It is a great survey though, and I've enjoyed reading all the different answers.

Creed Bratton
You know it amazes me how everyone votes for Seven Samurai in Best Movie competition. And I've only seen one person mentioned it in this survey. It shows how many people actually watched the damn film. Others just voted cause the think it will make them look smart. And the only explanation for why they like is always the same: "It's such a revolutionary masterpiece." Well f*ck off and go see the movie at least!
