Lil' problem here Dpeasant: Somehow I managed to get awful noise. I changed nothing. I just extracted all your files in my folder, and ran the game, figured out timecyc changes weren't applied, so I installed Alexander Blade his MP file check fix. But then the noise appears. I checked what time/weather settings could be the problem, the only weather that did not have the noise was cloudy, everything else is affected by noise, at any given time. What could be the problem?

Oh, I use Patch 5 (1.0.0.4) with NO mods exept ENB Series and MP Filecheckfix.

AFAIK this maybe caused by patch 5. At least several users had the same probs when using this patch. just for the sake of testing delete effect.txt. Itll immediately ruin the settings, but youll be able to see if there are any problems.

PS Ive made too many changes to effect.txt and enbeffect, so there maybe some bugs, though they compiled without any problems. And there are many spoils of unused effects like sharpening and so on. But theyre turned off and should cause any probs.

Ah, that's a bummer. I'll test it. Also, replacing the shaders didn't work, I only got an error tounge.gif

I remember there was a possibility to disable the noise, I'll test that too biggrin.gif

I suppose that theres a difference between 1.0.4.0 shaders and patch 5. I had 1.0.4.0 shaders included in the archive, so if they caused error confused.gif Than they arent compatible with patch 5, and perhaps some code in enbeffect.fx or effect.txt causes noise with shaders from patch 5.

Here, screen of my very old settings. Screen was made by one kind russian user who tested them. Patch 5

Noise and overbrightness.

Ah, I somehow broke my GTA IV again. Stupid me! Time for a reinstallation. I'll do patch 4 again. My problem was a bit worse, the lighting was good, but the noise was far worse tounge.gif Opacity 80%

My game also crashes when trying to run Dpeasant's settings, I get this error message after GTAIV has finished loading my savegame: "The instruction at "0x0040ef36" referenced memory at "0xb6b55a6c". The memory could not be "read."

I don't know why, but Dpeasant3 settings crashes my game after gta iv has loaded the savegame.

Hey! smile.gif

I have tryed other settings and my game crashes to

Ands i just delete my Gta Saved games map and it will run smile.gif

How do you do that? I tried deleting the GTA IV folder in the local apps data but it still tries to load up my save game even after deleting the GTA IV folder with settings, savegames and more inside it. Is there something else you have to do?

Does anyone know here what kind of CPU is required for using Geforce 460 GTX is? I cant seem to find the CPU requirements or minimum for it. It would help me greatly if some1 could tell me.

Nvidia 400 series drivers have shown 3 or more core cpus really push the cards to the max. 2 cores shows a lot of gains over 1 core but cpu clock speed up to ~ 3.5 GHZ should be good enough. For CPU clocked up to 4 GHZ or beyond, I think the limit may still be mainly GPU.

But GTA4's engine was designed for 3 or more cores so a high clocked quad core is the most ideal.

now really understanding how renaming it would work? i don't see sli profiles in the nvidia control panel . Isnt it automatic? I have sli enabled that sall i see settings wise.

If you force SLI via the control panel, the drivers would attempt to use a generic SLI profile on the game but sometimes it won't work due to the way it renders. Thats why you can TRY to rename the exe to another game name that SLI does support to force it to use SLI.

Its an old trick that people used for SLI until nvidia released updated drivers with full SLI support.

It may or may not work but it won't hurt to try.

Dpeseant3 - thanks for info on shaders. I know the shaders should run on the video card but am not sure if enb's AA is running through the video card as a post processing function or if the cpu actually blows up and scales back down the screen.

A 480 GTX can supersample fairly well actually. I am not sure if GTA4 has more geometry than crysis, but I believe it may not actually. Texture usage may be the same the same. I'm just eyeballing it so have not dug into the files to check.

You guys can test this by running a gpu monitor in the background on the desktop and look at a wall close up (gpu usage may lower due to less geometry to render and FPS should go up), then look out in the distance where FPS goes down n gpu should be pegged at 100%. If the gpu is not pegged at 100% when doing a big load, then you know some functions are passed over to the cpu for rendering.

I am assuming most people here have probably caught that "Heavy Rain In Liberty City" Machinima on YT?

His Settings in that vid are BRILLIANT.. Not Too Much.. Not To Little.. Just Right... I Wish I Could Get It Like That!

I am assuming that since he is making the videos as animated shorts that he would process the video after the fact to make sure the lighting and color looked good. Doesn't mean his settings actually look like that during gameplay. I could be wrong though. smile.gif

Yeah Could Be.... just the actual reflections and bloom and overall EMB-Like Effects are present... Actually to think of it,

its probably more like standard game just everything up at full with sum minor timecyc and visualsetting Tweaks.. Thanks anyhow,

just thawt maybe it was an old Enb config...

Peace

He actually told me that he doesn't use ENB what so ever, that's just standard EFLC.

Poor framerate can also be caused by high shadow settings, bloom, skylighting and SSAO. For example, i have them all set to 0, which mrans that its the highest quality. The best thing is to set them to 1 or 2 and play with AA. They dont give any perf. hit when playing at native res, but with AA even skylighting is a serious blow.

Its just that i have a small(in comparison to modern) display - 1280x1024, so even gtx275 runs fine.

I Find that res to always be most reliable performer on most games Dp!

Nothing wrong with it at all!

You Can always up texture res manually.... as i have done... my textures on MEDIUM are FAR better than the HIGH Setting

Bit of work but so worth it!

Peace biggrin.gif

Yeah, I know, thats why I dont want to buy a new display. 1280x1024 - very good res and doesnt require smth like gtx480 to run most of the games on max.

After messing with that stupid timecyc, ive managed to get rid of the oversaturated nights(those yellow lights, damn).

Even 1280*720 is fairly playable with AA, with a HD4830, which is an outdated piece of crap. Modern CPU's, and the awesome mid-end GTX460 shouldn't have much problems running it on mid-HD (1680*1050) with AA on.

Also fun to know: GTA SA with enb settings (ssao quality, water, shadows) on max runs worse than GTA IV @ 1280*720 with AA and all other ENB stuff. Amazing how Boris managed to tweak SSAO in IV to almost not touch the performance.

Thank you for info. I already have my Intel 2 Duo Core 2.13 OC at 2.3 so if i do it anymore would it cause issues? Lets say up to 3.5? or is that total?

Im doing changes in a temp file, it crashes if any other weather xcept sunny and extra is selected. Ill rerelease my settings in several days, for now play with these values:

depth fx; desaturation and midgray(this one causes oversaturation in combination with desat).

Some places for me (mostly interiors) are pretty dark.

I'll post pictures soon if needed.

Its engine->enb bug, we discussed it with DKT a page or two ago. Every map zone has to be adjusted SEPARATELY and thats not an option, unless I want to spend another two months with it.

___________

Again, 2 comparison screens. ill live up with a bit of saturation loss, hovewer it can be corrected through hdr colour adjustments. Ill look into it later.
