Imo its now decent. Some cheap photoshop on those lightsprite textures and its done. Opacity is due to the enb tendency to make bright things brighter(adaptation). Cant fight it, as decreasing adaptation will ruin the daytime.

nice one dpeasant.

i just need to warn u of something - rare phenomanons should remain rare. if they are constant than they feel fake.

light flares and certain light glares happen very rarely. if a rare light glare happen on every light than it feels artificial. if light looks a certain way 95% of the time, even though the other 5% exist and look great, if only 1 of the two ways light looks are available it's better be the mundane one that shows 95% of the time rather than the exceptional (but orettier) way it looks 5% of the time.

if something in naturaly rare happens constantly than it isnt natural anymore. it's fake.

what im trying to say is that it kinda looks like every light sprite u made has this lens flare around it. while such a flare DOES happen , not only that it doesnt happen exactly like it looks in your screenshots, it also happen rarely only when viewed at very certain angles when looking at light through certain lenses. it's rare. if every light has this circle of broken light than it does feel natural.

that's just my opinion and a food for thought. do what u want with it. either way your sprites look better than the stock ones of ENB smile.gif dso great job there smile.gif

Its a limitation of the engine. Vanilla gta uses the same sprite for all occasions: headlights, lamps, streetlights. Cant do anything about it. confused.gif

Mindofmike, you and STAN18 have released the only good, consistent settings on this forum in my opinion, they just look outstanding! I'd say DKT's are cool too, but his night settings aren't complete and there's some weird pastey look to the distance in those settings. Other settings like lpf312's are way over-contrasted/dark and only look good at one weather setting, or there's packages which are just way over-sharpened and annoyingly bad. I hope you make a HDR version someday Mike, awesome job smile.gif. Dpeasent, your settings are shaping up to be amazing too, well done!

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words! Nice to know some people like what I'm doing. I'm playing around with an HDR version, but I should probably get permission from DKT70 before I release anything. Your screens look great by the way. smile.gif

Thanks man! DKT70 said in his post that anyone can use his shader provided they credit him, so hopefully you have no troubles there tounge.gif. Thanks for subbing me on YouTube too :>

@3lajitz I tried them with your settings, without the effect.txt and with the shaders, it seemed to work well, but I don't have IV atm, so I don't know how it looks there... If you will release it with ur next settings, please make a 1440x900 copy of the settings...

Ok here are a few screens DKT70's HDR shader VS NON HDR, both using my settings, just changed the enbeffect.fx and altered a few settings in it and enbseries.ini. The effect is somewhat subtle, partly because I lowered the hdr power and overall brigntness to compensate for the huge over brightening problem when using HDR. To really do it right, I'd have to totally redo my timecyc, but actually it doesn't look bad as is.

I separately uploaded a gallery with full size versions because it's hard to see the difference with re-sized pics.

Gallery Here (imageshack is giving me uploading errors so may be a while before I can get all the pics up.)

You can get rid of the overbrightness by turning off this

r0.rgb *= pow(2.0f, Exposure)

=>

//r0.rgb *= pow(2.0f, Exposure)

But this, hovewer, depends on your overall settings. Maybe playing with adaptaton would help(this adaptation ruined my settings to be honest. Ive always played with real-time duration by using native trainer and the problem is: adaptation DO NOT work with this option turned on. Once i turned it off, the screen went too bright. I now have to redo almost all day time wether settings.)

oddly enough I couldn't find that line in the HDR shader that I have.

I did find this..

// HDR code by DKT70

color.rgb = max(0, color.rgb - Defog * FogColor.rgb);

color.rgb *= pow(2.0f, Exposure); <<<<<<<<<<<<------- is this what you were talking about?

Anyway, still playing with it and here are a few more screens, HDR versions only. I've upped the HDR level and tried to balance it out by tweaking other settings.

Yes, its this line. I forgot that i had to change the code for the .fx file im using.

___________________________________________________________

I halted the process of making my own timecyc, and ported reality 1.1 timecyc to match my settings. Heres what i have:

i gotta say, even though i know what HDR usually does in games, i can't see any difference in mindofmike's screens tounge2.gif

and if something is THAT subtle than what's the point?

but as a matter of fact i am not sure what DKT's HDR really does anyways.... :\

depeasnat - awesome screens, as usual. how does that timecyc work with your enbseries.ini? ddoes it have all sorts of weird effects at certain times? cuz these screens look good. question is if there are anomalies at certain time-of-days...

and if there aren't strange phenomenons than why not share the timecyc u r using with the ENB files?

good luck with your settings, buddy.

Wiki

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_imaging

HDR is always in this game and you could see this "// HDRSampler s2 1" from enbeffect.fx.

smile.gif

Too bad I see a lot of people perferring extremely low dynamic range. Extreme bloom, too dark places where it shouldn't be dark, extreme contrasts, overbrightening. Bad use of ENB. And totally not realistic.

A lot of games used Bloom to make it looks like sunlight, I think this is what GTA4 needed and ENB provides this possibility.

Everyone has different options about the realism, but it is restricted by the engine even ENB is powerful.

If you knew little about HLSL or C programming, you could write your own post-processing for your own settings and make this game looks more HDR, maybe this is why Boris remained enbeffect.fx and not included it into d3d9.dll.

BTW, I think Oblivion is over Bloom...

Yes, HDR is restricted by the engine, but the problem I find more is that when HDR is enabled some surfaces look realistic and some are way too bright. Certain road and sidewalk textures look great, for example, while others just aren't right. It's hard to balance those things out in a game that isn't even really designed to handle that kind of lighting.

Oblivion was designed with HDR in mind, so it looks great out of the box. (even better with some mods)

That said, after some more tweaking, HDR is looking a lot better with my settings. I think I'll release another pack next week sometime. It won't be perfect, but at least people can play around with it and see what they think. Still suffers from occasional overbrightness and rarely there are strange reflections on some surfaces, but otherwise, not bad.

I also am finding that screens sometimes don't do it justice. The difference is definitely noticeable when just walking around taking in the sights, more so than just doing a side by side screen comparison. It just feels more natural with HDR on. Then again, maybe it's a placebo effect from staring at my screen for two long. tounge.gif
