First of all, can someone tell me how to get this thing to work?

Everytime I launch GTA IV, it crashes (GTA IV has stopped working) cryani.gif

Please, help.

My card is a XFX ATI RADEON HD4890 1 GB GDDR5

Are you using any sort of D3DOverrider, like the one that comes with Rivatuner?

I used to use that, and it made GTA IV crash on start up every time.

No, I'm not.

I wish people would give attention to my problem and try to help me

I can't even run the thing.

I use to have a similar problem and solved it by using original timecyc.dat file.

try replacing it with the original timecyc or different file and it should solve your problem.

Good luck!!!

Do you use Xfire? If so, do this:

1. Go to C:\ProgramData\Xfire (for Windows 7)

2. Open xfire_games.ini

3. Find Grand Theft Auto IV (entry #5654)

4. For InGameRenderer, change D3D9 to D3D8

Thanks man, it worked, but I got another problem: I start the game, the ENB Series intro appears and all, but when I'm in-game, I press SHIFT+F12 and nothing happens.

I'm not aware of a direct reason why a timecycle.dat would reduce performance. I am however aware that indirectly it can:

I used within my timecycle.dat 2 hours worth (5am and 6 am) of data straight from another members timecycle (the set used was known for being good looking but poor-ish fps as a consequence) just as a translating experiment with my current personal set. Outside of these hours, performance was good, within the 2 hours performance was reduced, but I did notice a lot more reflections and greatly differing ambient lighting. I think then that the timecycle just effectively triggers heavy GPU workloads (when used in this certain way) out of enbseries.ini. I always look at enbseries as the new game engine, and timecycle just as the parameters for the engine (may sound obvious that), so perhaps if lots of sun power / mix is used (for example) then it could cause more hassle due to all of the resulting environmental effects, extra calcuations, and rerflections.

I could be wrong here, but just adding my thoughts. P1ch3 claimed he obtained significant fps increases through timecycle, so perhaps he could shed some light on it ( biggrin.gif )!

Thanks for responding, LargeStyle! I thought the answer might be something along those lines. Just in the last few days I've seen my frame rate start to fluctuate and I'm not sure what is causing it, but I know switching to a different timecyc.dat does improve it ... only problem is I like the timecyc.dat I have and so far nothing else has equaled it IMO, so I'm kind of at a standstill ...

I wish I could take all the credit but it's not really "my" mod--more a collection of various mods that I assembled and tweaked slightly so that they would all work together. You can download the set here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?yo44lztzycu

With this set you adjust brightness, contrast and saturation yourself using the in-game menu--I have brightness and saturation set very low, and contrast set very high--I posted a screen a page or two back if you want to see exactly how I have it set up. If you like the results please feel free to post screens as I'm always curious to see how this looks on other people's setups ...

As for the screens Noelgamo posted, I believe those are from his own, as yet unreleased, set.

DXT70, what is that blue car at 1:14??? That isn't a Porsche 924 is it? nervous.gif

Maybe I'm just seeing things?!

By the way, I am using P1CH's settings. It might be my other files too, but the lighting is extremely bright when the sun is out, or at night when all the lights are active. I replaced rage_post.fx back to it's original file, but that only helped a little with interior lighting. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, no, it's a 80's Mazda RX-7. Shame, because the Porsche would have been a better car, unless someone knows of a car mod for one ?

Only a question, the performance drops so much with this shader?

Shouldn't do, on a semi-decent PC, along with Boris' Sharpen (which is probably a little high in those shots) it runs just as well with it on or off. It's normally the timecyc, along with a few settings in the ENB ini that lower fps, especially AA, high reflections, and Ambient Occlusion.

So, when are we gonna get to try out this HDR shader and such..?

Still WIP I'm afraid. Only finished Extra Sunny 2, Extra Sunny, and Sunny. Rain has only the time I've shown in the shots and the video, 7pm, and the rest are blank, all zero values so everything is black.

This is going to take a lot of time, especially on my own, but I am thinking of asking some of the more advanced timecyc and ini editors around, and maybe even other modders, to see if a group can be formed and a real proper joint effort can achieve anything.

Yesterday I almost quit, simply because of a simple mistake I made myself, so I only had myself to blame for it. I always have 2 EditIV-s running, one to do editing, one to act as a quick backup incase of silly mistakes, simply click save on the other EditIV window and all is fixed. Only thing is, leave this for a few hours of editing, happy with many results, and then click save on the wrong EditIV window, 6 hours down the drain, and the game then crashes without a single warning. Still, live and learn.

I think your idea of getting a modding crew together is a good one, but without wanting to be pesamistic, it seems many people have possibly quite differing (artistic) interpretations as to what a good setup is. This may obviously cause directional confrontations, but regardless of that, I think it's a great positive suggestion which ultimately is very much worth trying. Saying this, and without wanting to offend others, it may be the case that peoples results have been limited by the hard learning curve of ENB, and more particularily, the dreaded timecycle.dat! It can very much be trial and error, and generally extremely time consuming even for just the littlest change and result.

I have been modding my set (from original files) very heavily and persistently for only about a month now - I've got damn close to giving up more times than I can remember. Loads of times I've thought about settling with someones else's set (maybe with a little tweak), or running standard ENB straight from Boris' setup. I've recently restored my GTA to my pre-ENB visual mod setup in the idea to put up with that. I've even deliberately deleted what was actually at the time my best ENB .ini and timecycle.dat purely because I had an artistic-based tantrum due to thinking I was unsatisfied with my results, and more significantly, with myself (which I thoroughly regretted later).

FYI / FWIW: I only have one EditIV open, but anytime I get any significant results / improvements I Alt-tab to my GTA folder and backup the .ini and .dat directly into another folder. I currently have loooaads of my sets on my computer because of this - a major change / approach gets a new version number, and tweaks get version revision update numbers - currently on v5.6.2 now!! Also, if editing a colour value, I always save the initial colour into a custom slot before altering it, just in case. I am also doing what you recommended of taking loads of photos for references, which I am consistently checking across 2 plasma tv's, pc monitor, and my laptop (for translating benefits).

I am in fact very impressed with your approach to your mod version, which I think is clearly demonstrated with your rain video by applying real weather and atmospheric ways of working into the game (sun coming through rain at a distance to see effect etc.). When I started modding, I was adjusting everything purely to manipulate the result, without a care in the world of how I actually got there. I've had to change this approach to get the best results, but not by as much as what you have!

I really hope you stick with it (and am sure you ultimately will) as I'm obviously not alone in wanting to experience and appreciate your work. I'll even give you a hand if you send us those HDR shaders biggrin.gif

Help please...  confused.gif

I've not had your particular problem, but if you can, maybe try and post a thorough list of your computers main hardware, drivers used, GTA mod process you went through (which exact non-original files used), which GTA patch, which ENB, and any changes to enbseries.ini etc - basically the more info the better. Perhaps even upload a pic or 2 just in case you might've missed something.

AMD Phenom X4 9650 ~ 2.3 GHz

2x2 GB RAM DDR2

XFX ATI Radeon HD4890 1 GB GDDR5

Windows 7 Ultimate RTM Build 7600 64-bit

ASUS M2N-MX SE PLUS

I use Alexander's ASI Loader(dsound.dll), aru's ScriptHook(scripthook.dll, and HazardX .NET ScriptHook (scripthookdotnet.asi) (which doesn't work) with the Ragdoll (ragdollmod.asi), Player Selector(playerselector.asi), and Gestures mod(gesturesmod.asi)

I also have GrabScript and GravityGun .NET Scripts (as I said, they don't work).

My ENB is the 0.079 SORA, I didn't modify it at all and I use the following commands in commandline.txt

-windowed

-width 1024

-height 768

(I also tried 800x600)

@ morphhh:

I don't have EFLC yet, but obviously you do. When running EFLC it uses completely modified shaders, and ENB 0.079 doesn't work as intended. The latest patch for GTA 4 apparenty has the same effect on 0.079, so you need to use a slightly older version of enb - I think it's something like 0.077b.

Look at the EFLC / ENB thread here:

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=446572

...and use the latest best version. I say "latest best" as not all problems of ENB not fully working have been resolved yet (well, if they ever will). I may be completely wrong, but it's worth a try.

Well, I have EFLC but it is the Steam Version, that means that when I press PLAY on EFLC in GTA IV, it redirects me to buy it on GFWL

But anyway, I'm gonna try your advice, Thanks.

EDIT: Still didn't work, Shift+F12 does nothing at all.

PS: I want to run ENB on GTA IV, not EFLC.

noelgamo, try editing your timecyc yourself, unless you are already doing this, using EditIV. Your environments always look too dark, so in EditIV, load your timecyc, pick a weather and time, then try adjusting your "Ambient Color 0", pick a lighter color than what you are using, and try a higher multiplier, above 6, depending on what time you are on, should be ok for a daylight value.

really impressive your settings, could you please share, I thank you in advance ..

Got a long way to go yet, but thanks for the comments.
