[GTAIV|REL|BETA] ENBSeries graphic modification

Hmmm... no AA?  I noticed that after switching to your settings and then you confirmed it.  Amazing.  Your larger resolution must make it appear AA'ed to me.  Apparently my cards can go up to 2024xwhatever but I can't manage to make that happen.

I guess I'm a noob, but in game I can only go up to 1680x1050 as that's the highest my desktop will go as well.

Here's the weird thing:

1) I go into enbseries.ini and make the resolution 1900x1200, with desktop resolution set to max (1640x1050)

2) I go into my gta options and it says 1900x1200

3) The game itself, despite saying it's at 1900x1200, looks more like 800x600, or even 640x480 -- VERY VERY pixelated.

I don't know why that happens or how to actually raise my resolution above 1640x1050 in game OR on my desktop (though it says the 9800GTX+ can go to huge resolutions)

I don't know anything about SLI and have forgotten most of what I knew about Nvidia since I had to switch to ATI, so hopefully someone with an Nvidia rig will be able to help you figure some of that stuff out. I'm not sure if you will see much benefit running the game at a higher resolution than your monitor's native resolution--you have an LCD, right? If you do, you want to run it at the native resolution for the sharpest picture, so I'd think about sticking to 1680x1050 ... Also I should point out that since my screenshots are downsized from 1920x1200 to 1440x900, they look a little sharper than they do in-game, but they are still plenty sharp at 1920x1200 ... I'd upload them at that size, but imageshack won't let me because it says the files are too big ...

EDIT: 1640x1050? I've never heard of that resolution before. I wouldn't be sad about it though. As long as you can run most games at your monitor's native resolution, that is the best outcome you can have. IMO there is no point in going higher since your monitor or videocard will just downscale the image anyway ...

My fault, I typed 1640 like 3 times when I meant 1680.

Oh well.

Thanks for the help!

::EDIT:: I also noticed you have definition off. That means motion blur is ON, right? How do you get the whole definition off/motion blur on without the other blur that comes with it (that makes everything look like crap even standing still)?

I use Voodooman's shader patch (included with my set). It creates the best motion blur--instead of the whole horizon blurring, only nearby objects do, which is a lot closer to real life. And I have them set so that the close and mid distance are still sharp, while the far distance is a little blurry for DOF, instead of everything having the constant blur that you are talking about.

Ah, unfortunately I can't use Voodoo's awesome shaders as I'm playing EFLC sad.gif I'm working with P1ch3's somewhat awesome shaders (they'll be *very* awesome once we get around this whole new shadow problem introduced by EFLC... ) currently as he is on the cutting edge of modern EFLC shaders lol... which means that we've only got about 3/4 of the functionality that the shaders for GTA IV has -- but we're trying! I have high hopes for the future.

As a side note, I'm never using a freakin SLI set up again (... maybe I will way later) because I turned off SLI and to my surprise, my framerate is in the mid 50s now. Apparently, despite all of the time, evidence through new driver notes and technology, GTA still hates SLI.

I'm using only one 9800GTX+ now and the game is so smooth. It's frustrating that my second card is just sitting around -- GTA is the only game I have that can push my computer at all meaning that my second card is going to total waste right now.

As another side note, I really need to learn how to overclock. My processor, a Q9300 which is well known for being able to safely overclock to about 2.9 or 3.0 with stock heat sink is sitting at the default 2.5 per core. That makes me a sad panda.

Will Rockstar ever make GTA work with two+ GPUS? Will Neverent ever learn how to overclock his embarrassing CPU?! Stay tuned!

Although we have different computers, I get a great fps boost by using SLI. In fact I recently did some benchmark tests (from my modded GTA) the other day for my own benefit in understanding if SLI worked in GTA 4...

Full-on graphics @ 1920x1080:

1 GPU, max GPU overclock = 37.69 fps

2 GPUs, max GPU overclock, NVCP SLI enabled = 47.91 fps

2 GPUs, no GPU overclocking (became unstable with o/c), NVCP SLI enabled, nHancer SLI enabled = 56.31 fps.

FYI: My system specs are last post on page 201, link:

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=417918&st=4000

So if you haven't tried it yet, download nHancer, and follow the advice I gave to arthil onpage 207, link:

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=417918&st=4120

Also, which OS do you use? Apparently XP scales SLI quite badly compared to Vista and especially Windows 7 as XP is just a modified version of Windows NT which neither were designed for SLI (XP had to be adapted for SLI), whereas Vista and W7 were built from ground up with full SLI support! I believe this to be true anyway as I had to put XP back onto my system temporarily (for another reason) and I installed GTA 4 for a SLI test - it ran very badly compaired to W7. Think I got something like 26 fps with 2 GPUs, no overclock on GPU, and just NVCP SLI (couldn't install nHancer without hassle due to NetFramework issue).

PS. I think that the EFLC shadow issue may have been fixed - but don't quote me on that. Check out (P1ch3's) EFLC specific thread, here:

First of all, can someone tell me how to get this thing to work?

Everytime I launch GTA IV, it crashes (GTA IV has stopped working) cryani.gif

Please, help.

My card is a XFX ATI RADEON HD4890 1 GB GDDR5

Are you using any sort of D3DOverrider, like the one that comes with Rivatuner?

I used to use that, and it made GTA IV crash on start up every time.

I have windows 7 and I do already have Nhancer downloaded (to fix some SLI issues [shadow flickering] in WoW). I'll try those!

Regarding his shadows, they're not really fixed... he made a lot of headway in getting shaders to work with EFLC, but because so many people said "ENB sucks without shadows" he went 5 steps back for them and removed a lot of ENB features to get shadows in. Essentially, in EFLC, we can choose everything in ENB working except skylighting and shadows, or choose only reflections in ENB to work and HAVE shadows. I'm staying with everything but shadows working instead of losing most of it just to get shadows.

::EDIT:: Wow, sir; ;you are a scholar and a gentleman. Major FPS boost in SLI to the point that I have zero stuttering with 5x pedestrians, 5x traffic on 100% traffic, etc, etc ,etc. That shouldn't be capable by this machine lol (it certainly was the hottest thing on the block about a year ago, but it could use a facelift soon). Very excited. No AA though, despite 4x multisample being on in the EFLC nHancer profile.

This might be a bit off topic, but can anyone tell me what would cause a timecyc.dat to give lower FPS besides the farclip settings? I've noticed that some timecyc.dats bring better FPS than others, but as far as I can tell this is not related to farclip ... but I can't think of anything else in the timecyc.dat that should affect frame rate ... There must be something obvious I'm overlooking ... anyone?

@ Nerverent:

Take it by your message SLI is working well now? Glad to hear if so!

I'm not aware of a direct reason why a timecycle.dat would reduce performance. I am however aware that indirectly it can:

I used within my timecycle.dat 2 hours worth (5am and 6 am) of data straight from another members timecycle (the set used was known for being good looking but poor-ish fps as a consequence) just as a translating experiment with my current personal set. Outside of these hours, performance was good, within the 2 hours performance was reduced, but I did notice a lot more reflections and greatly differing ambient lighting. I think then that the timecycle just effectively triggers heavy GPU workloads (when used in this certain way) out of enbseries.ini. I always look at enbseries as the new game engine, and timecycle just as the parameters for the engine (may sound obvious that), so perhaps if lots of sun power / mix is used (for example) then it could cause more hassle due to all of the resulting environmental effects, extra calcuations, and rerflections.

I could be wrong here, but just adding my thoughts. P1ch3 claimed he obtained significant fps increases through timecycle, so perhaps he could shed some light on it ( biggrin.gif )!

I'm sorry I wouldn't know , I'm not interested in EFLC and don't intend on installing that update.

Thanks for responding, LargeStyle! I thought the answer might be something along those lines. Just in the last few days I've seen my frame rate start to fluctuate and I'm not sure what is causing it, but I know switching to a different timecyc.dat does improve it ... only problem is I like the timecyc.dat I have and so far nothing else has equaled it IMO, so I'm kind of at a standstill ...

How many downloads are there? Three? One for each section of the game? Or are there more than that? It is difficult to tell.

EDIT: Off topic. Just tried a little experiment. Disconnected from the internet and shutdown my firewall (zone alarm). The result? PERFECT FRAME RATE WITH NO STUTTERING ... Something on my computer is polling the internet while I play and causing stuttering. Maybe the game itself, or zone alarm, I don't know.
