iBall.
Well 5months ago i started to play bass, the first 2 months i played about half hour everyday, then another 1 month i played about 1hr everyday (3months since i started) then another month i played about 2 - 3 hrs a day (4 months since i started) but the last 2 weeks i've been getting an ache pain in my fretting hand and and it only happens after i've started playing bass like 5mins. it starts at my thumb then when i stop my arm feels weird and has an ache pain. does anyone know what this might be? playing to much? or..? i can also play it when i have the pain but its just annoying and puts me off. rhyn
You may have just strained some muscles in your arm. Give your arm some time to rest. Always make sure you stretch and warm up slowly when you play. You risk getting RSI (repetetive strain injury) if you don't and you definately don't want that. SRS Incorporated

Panz
I get that sometimes when I play too much. Take some breaks if you're gonna play for a few hours. Just a few minutes of break every 30-60 minutes is good to keep from straining your arms. My thumb really hurts if I play too much without warming up properly, so I do finger exercises or scales to properly warm up.
Slamman
Me? I owned a fretless Yamaha bass, it's seen in my YouTube backdrop pic online. I sold that in short order. I did NOT like bass and I don't like thick guage strings past a 10 on my guitars either. Some people it just isn't what works. Or you can adopt and build up the calluses <sp?>
