D- Ice
Too many backgrounds to name them all, 5% of 25 different countries. But mainly Middle Eastern. funny, i know. Lol not really, the Middle-East has always been both the old and recent world's biggest melting-pots. The site of the oldest civilisations and even till now the frontline of virtually all the world's most powerfull civilisations' cultural, religious, political and influencial expansion. And the best way to to physically genetically mix with the people you're aiming to conquer, alongside forced mass immigration and intigration, all further confusing the situation. I have witnessed this thing with my very eyes in mass in Iraq, but I'd just risk sounding completely ridiculous and like a lier if I describe some of the methods used. I'm certain if I traced my ancestory back far enough (so far I only know names and exact dates of birth/marriage/death till 700 years back at best, with as little as only 500 years on some lines), I'll be just as mixed as you - meaning I got the best of each peoples, thus explaining my pure awsomeness. Just out of interest, what is the predominant language of your parents/ancestors, and what are the countries the came from? I am really interested in the genetic origins of the different people of the Middle-East versus, or in comparison to their percieved ("bon fide") ethnicities. Hopefully I'd like to write a research paper on it, but getting funding, knowledge, opportunity and volunteers would probably mean it wont happen in some time to come. Algonquin Assassin
Although I was born, and raised in Australia my family origins go back to Scotland. I used to be able to speak in a Scottish accent years ago, but I lost it.
Omnia sunt Communia
I'm trying to find the origins of my surnames, though I'm not sure where to start. I really want to find out if there's more to me than just "1/4 Welsh, 3/4 English," y'know?
Algonquin Assassin
I just looked up the origins of my surname (Taylor), and it's apparently of a old French origin. Maybe I also have some French in my blood too?

Stefan.
I was born and have lived in Australia all my life. My father was born in southern Serbia and my mother is a Croatian Serb (her family and ancestors are all ethnically Serb, however they lived in what is currently a part of Croatia, until Yugoslavia split up, when they all emigrated either back to Serbia or to different Western countries, like what my mum did). So pretty much, 100% Serbian.

Aussiebushmatt
I'm half Italian and the rest is mixed up between mostly English and some other random European countries close to Italy. My father's side is entirely English but my mother is technically Italian (despite being born in Australia). Y'see, my Nonna and Nonno (that's grandmother and grandfather in Italian) came over to Australia after the Second World War and both of their family trees lead up into Italy and possibly Bulgaria and stuff So now, I have these Italian grandparents in Australia and half of my family is Australian xD
Tsuroki
Heh, these threads are interesting to poke through when you're really bored. *ahem* Anyway... My father's side of the family is primarily Irish/Scottish. Although they immigrated to Canada from Ireland in the 1800's, they were originally from the highlands of Scotland. Apparently they invaded Ireland or something way back in the 1600's or 1700's... not quite sure. Regardless, my family is tied to that ridiculously large MacBean/MacBain/MacBeth clan. My mother's side of the family is pure French. The name traces back to upper-class nobles from France and the Catholic church, but I've never taken much interest in that side of my heritage, unfortunately. You gave up being a muslim...seriously that is really bad sin, in the Islamic countries and laws of allah? I like your relgeon it is truly fascinating...Bit more about my familly. My Nonna from Italy came here to England after she had a fight with some of her relatives aparantly, and my Grandfather was an italian aswell mixed with english and welsh. My Grandmother and my father and uncle from my Burmese side of the familly, came here to escape the cruel burmese regime, they had the chance, that many burmese didn't and the burmese that could flee to england did so. My fathers grandfather was a pure White english person, so that makes him a quater english...my fathers father was a but english aswell, But my familly are not sure if he is Half or quater or 1/16, you know what i mean. So all togather including my Afghan genes from thousands of years back...i'm very proud to come from such backrounds. So even if i'm not...i consider myself 1/3 Burmese italian english Now for my children depends in who i marry...

You gave up being a muslim...seriously that is really bad sin, in the Islamic countries and laws of allah? In the eyes of the religion he left, yes. But when someone leaves a religion I don't believe they should be tied down or bothered about the religion's "laws" of sin. People should be allowed to believe what they want. There are no religious sins if the individual is no longer a member of the religion, therefore he has not sinned. I've been looking into my heritage and it seems a large portion of my family left Ireland during the American Wake, and that my descendants were mainly poorer members of society. General Goose
My Italian grandparents left Italy after getting married, though now spend half the year there. THere might be some very distant Arabic heritage there. On my mum's side, my grandfather is mostly English, though he has some non-English heritage. My grandmother has a lot of French and such, and she often looks into her background. She has found ancestors who were WWI spies, artists and friends of Napoleon. D- Ice
is anybody else on here a muslim Over 'ere. And D-Ice: Just curious but why that happened? (about your belief) As you probably already know, I lived in Iraq for most of the hypocritical and unfounded UN Sanctions and this current war. Thanks for not automatically assuming (like a lot of people who I know very well - my mother even) that it's because of the hardship I could have blamed on the cruelty and lack of sympathy of humanity, or the evil, bloodshed and violence prepitrated in the name of religion in Iraq - which drove me away from religion, because in truth, it was neither. To be perfectly honest with you, I just came to a point in my life where I stopped believing in a devine, superior, invisible being in the sky who is the creater of everything, nor the many stories I was told and believed as a child, especially since now most magicians can do better tricks/miracles IMO. Sorry if it seems a bit too straightforwards bro, but it's not a product of my life or any outside sources - I just stopped believing all that over time. Hope that answers your question. Sanjeem and Damon: Actually, I started being openly athiest in Iraq just before I moved to the US. And before that I wasn't very religious at all - never prayed more than once or twice a day - and that was only on special occasions/gatherings in order to fit in. I never really got any trouble from anyone - and that was right in the middle of full-scale sectarian civil war. I still remember one day in 2004 when I was walking back from high-school with my friend to see a bunch on Ansar Al Sunnah insurgents sitting on the sidewalk in the shade, eating chicken and drinking beer and talking about Jessica Alba. My very religious friend decided to raise a fuss about the beer and Islamic headband thingy. While one kept insisted they'll be forgotten after they get Martyred, the other explained that they just want to fight the Americans, and their branch was started and funded by some Pakistani businessman in the Emirates, so they have to take the name and wear the white fatigues that guy's contacts are supplying. He said he'd rather wear his "Breakiya" (basically "Gangsta" - as hip-hop style first came at the time of Break Dancing/Music, and that's what it's still refered to) clothes instead. That was generally the mentality and thinking in Iraq at the time, though now brainwashing and the destruction of that way of thinking is taking place, to replace it with the extremist bullsh*t, which most people are still surprised as to where the f*ck it came from to infect Iraq like that. Most people were, and still are, very open-minded and tolerant, and that is also the majority of people in the world, including Muslims. The most trouble I got was my mum's nagging for me to be more religious, as she truely believed it was one of those "for your own good" things, as my soul will be saved etc... and my father as to how to pronounce and properly say the word "Athiest" lol. I think what your thinking of Sanjeem are more to do with places like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia, where it's used to control and oppress the people. These are extreme cases,I don't think that's how it'slike in most Muslim countries, which are now being modernised and laws are being made secular rather than religious. And Damon, that's very true man, I completely agree. However, unfortunately those people who call for stonings of people like me are the last people on Earth to understand logic. Typhus
I am Anglo-Irish. My family moved here from the old country many years ago. The 1920s I believe. Some of us went to America, where one became the Mayor of New York. But we just stayed in England, where I was born. Although because of my heritage my accent is completely f*cked up. I mean, it's almost like I've got a speech defect. People can't understand a word I say and if they can they think I sound like a fool. Thems the breaks I guess.
