Just a heads up this isn't the bloody screen shot thread, if you don't have anything to discuss on this issue stop clogging it up with spam or this thread will go the same way as the last AA topic.

I was referring to and talking about the application of AA/'Edge Detection' to the game... not the fake and over the top 'reflections'.

I don't think it's done with edge detection.

If you look critically at the GTA4 pics they're all slightly smoothed or fuzzy.

This looks like a post process effect like the standard 'P'/'definition' blurring but less aggressive. It looks mostly like full screen MSAA bi-cubic sampling with transparency on any edge pixels but not true edge detection.

If you did only edge detection the whole picture would be crisper, these GTA4 pics all look kind of fuzzy.

Still, it's not a bad effect. The problem with the standard GTA4 'definition OFF' fuzziness is that it is too aggressive. I think R* just uses a gaussian blur which is cheap in terms of FPS but it blurs too much. It's too bad there isn't a slider to adjust the aggressiveness of the blur in the standard GTA4, a very little blur might be a good thing.

@above two posts:

Anisotropic textures are only affected when seen at a large angle. That cannot affect textures seen straight-on and certainly doesn't affect edges or edge smoothing.

Anisotropic Filtering... Yeah right! lol.gif

Thats clearly a photoshop work/filter m8... never try to fool a designer! wink.gif

On the first img, the trees on the bottom left corner are clearly manipulated and on the second one, the buildings we're too.

Detected this just with a quick look! If the images are analyzed in detail... monocle.gif there's a lot more manipulation going on!

Nice work by the way! biggrin.gif

Cheers! icon14.gif

Ok I have had enough, obviously everyone is all talked out after the last AA thread and there is sod all to talk about with Boris's seemingly miracle AA. Until such time Boris actually gives anyone information I am closing this up because it is just a spam fest.
