Guys............. There is a link to a picture but right now there is a no link to the download of this AA!!!!! Comeone we need A link to the download of this btw... I can't achieve but atleast i can say tounge.gif

Edge detection in COJ BIB.

It would benefit GTAIV quite a bit, and I think that's what Boris is doing. However please remember edge detection still has jaggies every now and then (the sign infront of the building in the above screen has pretty bad jaggies yet most other things look smooth), but usually its a nice smooth small blur on the edge of things.

 

Edit: Think its confirmed, on Boris's site go to Effects, you will notice he has a lil blip there on edge detection using a GTAIV screen to demonstrate.

 

Good job Boris! Looking forward to the ENB series for GTAIV.

If this was some random dude in America that has the name redneck1336gansta i'd doubt it, but this is Boris! Who thought SA could ever have effects like SSAO?

Correct. At first I thought it might just be down sampled but I'm quite sure now (like 99.9%) that hes just using edge detection, that's what they did in COJ BIB to get nicer edges when using DX10 + Deferred were AA isn't a option...

 

Technically its not AA, but edge smoothing but the results are simular. Looks good. I just hope he releases ENB soon I want the nice reflections and edge smoothing!. =P

This will certainly impact the FPS... but for alot of people it'll be worth it. I'm certainly going to use it once it has been released.

 

Eventhough people say he uses a 'workaround' method that gives somewhat a similar effect as AA does, this is really brilliant. And about the fact that it doesn't solve all jaggly lines... heck it gets rid of enough jaggly lines. Alot better than the stock game.

 

I wonder if R* will notice this and implement this in future patch(es). Highly doubt it though.

 

This will be the only future that I'm going to use from "Boris' ENB". I hate his exaggerated effects... but this 'experimental AA' looks brilliant!

I doubt to call ENB series an uber awesome thing... There are some really cool effects but things like depth of field or reflections in GTA SA are craptastic.. DOF can't adapt itself properly and reflections are nothing more than translucent, turned upside down game screen projected on car's geometry. And that screen looks like resized image... normal edge detection doesn't look so smooth... Hope that I'm wrong and we will see AA or at least AAA(almost anti aliasing;) in GTA IV... But unless there are ony screenshots I dare to doubt.

Well that screen is at 1024x768, maybe it'll not lag[too much] at that resolution.I don't know if it is resized but look at the tree, here in 1280x1024 trees are a lot different from 1440x900.

In 1440x900 you can see more space beetween the leaves.

I don't say it is a hoax.. It just seems so.. anyway, reputation is not a reason to be unreasonable.. It just look too good to be edge detection... There are always artifacts with this processing technique... Also consider that previous ENB series were available even in early stages and new functions were just added... Now Boris only post screenshots with new features... But no real proof... of course I might be wrong... But now I have my doubts.

I doubt to call ENB series an uber awesome thing... There are some really cool effects but things like depth of field or reflections in GTA SA are craptastic.. If anyone takes the time to read any of the posts they would have realized by now that Boris is using edge detection. I agree, edge detection doesn't usually look that smooth, I'm sure he just got a really good screen of it, but still edge detection would drastically help GTAIV and im still wondering why they didn't go for it off the bat.

 

Some other games use edge detection also, such as COJ BIB and it looks pretty nice.

I thought all the others were examples of the aa thing also.

 

And I agree with Murcchachosa, Edge detection or AA, doesn't really matter, just remove the ugly jaggyness  tounge.gif

Its edge detection, AA can't be done properly with deferred shading + DX9.

 

But yes, it looks pretty good, tbh im more excited about getting those car reflections. I love reflections.

Damn, we will have GTA IV with great improved lightning, reflections and smooth edges... why else do you need ? Plus, all of this stuff is WIP, imagine how it will look in final stages ?
