leik oh em jeez!
Well, throughout the three years I have had my computer, I have re-installed windows many times. 100% fresh install with the same CD every time. Sometimes, SA will run on my copmuter. But sometimes, after I reinstall windows, SA just refuses to run. I just recently switched over from XP Pro to Server 2003 Ent. x86. And SA is once again refusing to run. It's not the San Andreas install because I have it on a separate partition. Has anyone else had SA do this to them? Upon double clicking of gta-sa.exe, it appears that nothing happens, but it does pop up in task manager for a second or two. These are the two related messages in Event Viewer: Event Type: Information Event Source: DrWatson Event Category: None Event ID: 4097 Date: 7/4/2009 Time: 10:52:02 PM User: N/A Computer: Description: The application, O:\program files\Rockstar Games\SAMP\gta_sa.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 07/04/2009 @ 22:52:02.750 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 006A0050 (gta_sa) For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. RomanViking
What do you mean by; "San Andreas is on a separate partition" ? Just try uninstalling and reinstalling. I wish I could help you more
Girish
Why is the folder named 'SAMP' instead of 'GTA San Andreas'? Haven't tried or come across anyone running the game on Server 2003, but you can try running the game in Windows 98 compatibility mode and see if it works. Because I have like 10 different installs of San Andreas. Odd that you ask about the folder name, but about the O:\ Drive. Tried it in both 98 and XP compatibility modes, it's a no go on either of them. @RomanViking: It's not the install. I tried 6 SA installs, all of which were known to be working before the reinstallation of windows, none of them worked.
RomanViking
I'd get rid of all those extra installs just for maintenance, why on Earth would you need so many installs for 1 game?

But yeah, I would try getting rid of all the other, reinstall the game and delete the gta_sa.set file from the User Files folder, if it exists. Stopped DEP from killing it, and enabled hardware accelerated DirectDraw and DirectX. Now the game starts up and loads the menu fine, but crashes as it gets to the game play or a cut scene. Same place I was at last time it didn't work on XP. EDIT: Problem Solved. DLed a new save game. Looks like I still won't be able to start new games though. Edited July 5, 2009 by leik oh em jeez!
