Third person, because its more like having peripheral vision

where as first person is like holding your hands up beside your head, or wearing a hoody like the time I went to cross the street with my hood up and got hit by a van. happy.gif

Do you know how much i wanted to SEE the Master Chief but yeah im a third person kind of guy but most the best shooters dont give you TP i think Halo as a third person would be like Star Wars Battlefront 2

1. Peripheral vision. You can see much more of the environment around your avatar, too many times I`ve come to a stop while running in FPSs because there`s a crate or small object in the way which I`ve then have to look down at to navigate around.

3. Character animations. Not available in FPSs, so it`s a value for money thing. You miss out on all the jumping, grabbing, climbing and melee animations in an FPS.

5. Escapism. Immerse yourself in a different world, playing a character of that time and place.

This.

I like to see my surroundings in games instead of having to rotate the stick to have a look at what's around me. I find it awkward not being able to see much else of the character's body other than the occasional arm holding a weapon. Also, whilst FPS games put you right in the eyes of the protagonist, I feel more immersed when I can see the character as a whole and all that is around him.

Some FPS's have a few good animations, though. I know Mirror's Edge tended to show more of the body, and Far Cry 2 showed some cool animations when the character's health got low, like picking bullets out of his leg or arm.

I'v become more of a fan of FPS's lately, with the Call of Duties and stuff, so FPS. But nonetheless i do love TPS aswell.

Shooters are a must First Person, not really into third person shooters.

Mirror's Edge is a great example of good use of first person action adventure, and I believe this is because of the simplicity of the game: You run, point A to point B with an obstacle course in between. GTA4 wouldn't be as much of an experience if you were in first person since there is so much going on in the game, AND the character is waaaay to interesting to make the audience see it all entirely through his eyes. Faith isn't that interesting of a character, so it works out that we play FP.

...besides that I ain't sayin nuthin.

Nightmare.
Most 1st person games suck so 3rd person! If you are given the choice between 1st and 3rd then it is ok.

Yeah, back in the day I couldn't stand FPS'. I was bad at them, I sucked at the controls and it just felt weird not seeing my character. I didn't start playing FPS' until I had gotten a N64 (Goldeneye). After that it was all she wrote. Couldn't get enough of them.

While there are some absolutely brilliant First Person games out there (Duke Nukem 3D being my all-time favourite), I generally prefer Third Person games.

Even better though are games like the later Metal Gear Solids (2 onwards), which are Third-Person that allow First-Person aiming or games like the Jedi Knight games that allow you to choose your view (I usually go with Third-Person anyway, but at least I have the option to use First-Person).

I generally like FPS games that allow you to see yourself e.g. if you look down you'll see your legs. Mirror's Edge and Alone In The Dark performed this great, but Alone In The Dark wasn't that fun. tounge.gif

Third person is awesome, but anything like a racing game or a shooter, or... Ace Combat will at least need the option of a first person camera if we want more of a first hand experience at it or to give ourselves a challenge in something that requires the constant ability to see everything around us. So, I guess I'm saying I want games to incorporate both views, depending on genre and environment.

If a game's all about shooting stuff, I find it very difficult to play in Third Person. this is probably the sole reason I don't like Gears of War (that, and the fact that if you don't hit in the head it takes about 30 rounds just to down someone)> Every serious, straight-up shooter I've played and been good at has been 1st person ever since Halo CE. Anything that isn't just shooting i like in third person e.g. GTA or Fallout 3.

Oh and if there's any degree of character customisation (out side of weapon modifications) i want to at least be able to briefly see my player. This is the sole reason that I played RSV2 to the end and briefly online, because I loved unlocking new camo patterns and equipment. I still think the most bad ass looking character I've played in a game was my guy from RSV2: Bright orange/dark black camo from head to toe, with a baseball cap, blackout sunglasses, balaclava, body armour and cargo pants with knee pads.

Both, it just depends on what kind of game it is, off coarse first person can work with any kind of game if made right.

I'm a fan of both too, it depends on the game. GTA IV would be pretty bad with a 1st person view & the likes of Resistance or Killzone would be bad as 3rd person view.

There should be an option for toggling between them.

There should be an option for toggling between them.

And the ones that do have terrible animations, (Oblivion, bioshock 3)

Some don't though, Like Alone in the Dark which I like because it uses both views and it does it well.
