Of course, there are good and bad examples of both, but we`re not judging games - just the style.

Third, I like to see who I'm controlling. First person usually ends up sucking the point out of playing a character.

So I enjoy games that give you the ability to change perspective, from 1st to 3rd.

I prefer third-person games like Grand Theft Auto, inFamous, Mercenaries etc. I think it allows for a better form of storytelling because it allows you to distance yourself from the protagonist and as such you are not forced to make any decisions for them; or if he does make his own decisions you do not feel like you are them and so do not feel like going "I would not make that decision."

Third Person mainly because you can see if someone is sneaking behind you. But in the end i like both but like 3rd person a little better because of GTA.

I used to be a third person person (see what I did there?), but after playing loads of FPS's, I'm now loving BEING the player.

I don't feel as connected to the character in a third person game since I'm just kind of watching them. FPS for me, but it's a close one after playing a bit of inFamous.

I prefer third person games. But I like what Mirrors Edge did to first person.

I want more FPS games like Mirrors Edge, but even better.

Really? If done right it would be awesome but every game I've played with that feature has one of the two (or both) rather halfassed.

Third person, I prefer to see the whole character especially for games like gtaiv. But it's really hard to choose though. FPS and 3rd person games are both totally different genres. But for games like gtaiv, definitely 3rd person.

First Person, its a lot easier to concentrate and get into the game, personally.

With third, I tend to look at what the character is wearing and such, whereas first I think about what I need too get done.

I like something that uses both camera angles well, such as the Rainbow Six: Vegas series.

It depends. First-person focuses on shooting and close-combat thingy. It also gives you a nice view of what "you" see playing as the character. It also gives a feeling that you are actually the one playing the game.

Third-person, on the other hand, is more into storytelling. Much like RPG's, sandbox games, etc. It also gives you a wider view and see more frontal surroundings. You could see also what your character look like.

But I really prefer more first-person than third-person. sigh.gif

How is a "sandbox" game different from a FPS as you state?

It's a game where you avoid linear travel, and avoid linear ways to complete a task!!

First Person: Corridor games. Games that take place in linear claustrophobic areas like many FPS's

Third Person: Open Space games: Ie: RPG's, RTS's, Sandbox games etc.

I cant vote for either one as I like them both in there respected game types.

Third person.

I like to see my character, and it gives me a better view of everything. With first person I usually feel restricted, because it's harder to see the surroundings.

I prefer first-person shooter. I feel like I can move about much faster, aim better, and see my surroundings a little easier.

Though, I don't mind third-person either, take example Dead Space, game was ace.

I like them both, it all depends on how well they are executed. CoD4 would be a good example of an awesome FPS, whereas for games like unreal tournament 3 are sh*t. 3rd persons like MGS4 and GTA are awesome, but trying to actually fight eneimies in the Fallout 3 3rd person view is terrible.

Third person here.

People said FPS would be better for Red faction guerilla (just like I & II) but I don't think it would be better, since I want to see how buildings collapse... (third person is wider)

First person purly for immersion.

Agreed. Although I do enjoy some 3rd-person games, I generally enjoy 1st-person much more.

Absolutely 3rd person, I want to see the character actions. On RPG it will be lovely to see my character that I was made in cool apparel in the game with ultra-cool weapons.

Edit: Fix some spelling, don't about the grammar. Too tired tounge.gif

I think what he means is that most FPS are just that...shooters. While third person games are usually sandboxes or RPGs.

I prefer 3rd person, because I want to see the character that I am playing and see what he/she is doing.

Third person, without question.

I haven't played one First Person Shooter that I liked.

It's very hard to choose between the two. I find both of the views good in each of their own ways.

But I guess that the perspective that I most like is Third Person since it shows the character and the actions that he is doing. I do like a lot of First Person games as well.

i dont like 1st person because it is not very realistic, unless your wearing goggles or something. i know its impossible to put peripheral vision in a video game but i still cant stand that when in a fps i have to platform when i cant see the rest of my damn body. the lack of the ability not just to see straight ahead of you ruins games for me.

i like 3rd person better and the over the shoulder view even better than that. biggrin.gif

It`s definitely third person for me, for many reasons:-

1. Peripheral vision. You can see much more of the environment around your avatar, too many times I`ve come to a stop while running in FPSs because there`s a crate or small object in the way which I`ve then have to look down at to navigate around.

2. Movement. It only takes one stick to move the character around in 3PSs, the other stick can then be used for camera work to get even better peripheral vision.

3. Character animations. Not available in FPSs, so it`s a value for money thing. You miss out on all the jumping, grabbing, climbing and melee animations in an FPS.

$. Customisation. There are 3,653,469 different `looks` for your character model in GTA IV multiplayer - nuff said

5. Escapism. Immerse yourself in a different world, playing a character of that time and place.

I`ve just played the first half hour of CoJ:BiB, and for all the above reasons it`ll be my last FPS. From now on it`s 3PS or no.

It's not really a question of which I like best because I feel that is not a question I could answer. Depending on the content of the game the decision is different.

Halo for example would be horrible as a third person game. Resident Evil would feel very weird in first person. It depends on what you're doing. Some games need both like Rainbow Six Vegas and it's done well.
