[WIP|SCR] Aprilia RAM1000 (Bike)

Now that custom GTAIV models are possible to do, here's some info on my current GTAIV project, a concept Aprilia designed by Heikki Naulapää. I fell in love with this design the moment i saw it and months ago i started modelling it in 3ds max for a high poly render. Therefore now i have an (unfinished) meshsmoothed highres version.

 

From that base, im working on a lower poly version for GTAIV, hoping to get it to look good enough with about 20.000 to 23.000 polys (for comparison PCJ model has 15.000 polys if im correct).

 

The mesh is still unfinished, lots of detail have to be added, other parts have to be optimized/cleaned and i still have to design a handlebar that fits in the game. I guess the front suspension will be a problem as well so maybe i redesign it a bit as well to fit the game physics better.

 

Also, i'm using some elements from the PCJ mesh, like the fuel tank, edited engine and little things i may find useful. smile.gif

 

The proportions of the bike are very similar to the PCJ though (distance from seat to handle bars and engine, etc., and the model will be about the same size as the PCJ).

 

Here you have some pics. The first two are the original model from Heikki Naulapää which i'm using for reference (note it wont look exactly like this in game, some parts will be different).

 

The Third pic is a render on my highres model which might even help to bake a normal map (if i find that really necessary and manage to pull it off).

 

The last two pics are the actual work in progress model for GTAIV.

That would be an amazing edition to IV biggrin.gif

But yeah, need to design new handle bars, as you said, because the animation will be different and Niko will be hanging on to nothing while riding it, hehe.

I have an idea for the handlebars, however strange it may look to some when done it should work with the game.

 

I have and idea for the front wheel rotation as well. The front suspension is the real deal right now hehe, still haven't figured out how to make it look nice in game so maybe i end up making that suspension more like in a normal bike.

 

Edit: BTW, the low poly pics above are 17.000 polys, since that point i have redon wheels, optimized some parts and made other looks better and have ended up with 15.000 polys. When i have some more changes i'll post more pics.

Well i'm modeling it with 3ds Max so a max script to export it would be awesome, if that is not possible then i'm stuck with zmodeler tounge.gif

Its great to see that alot of really good modelers from the old times that I dont know come back with IV biggrin.gif Those renders look great, yor lowpoly model still has some bumps tho. But Im sure you can fix them so good luck and keep up your great work, the model looks great. smile.gif

 

A 3ds max script would be great, Id like to convert my stuff by myself confused.gif

OK, here'e a little progress, i have optimized several parts to use less polys and fixed some other like the rear fork which looks considerably better than before with less polys smile.gif

 

On the other hand i have smoothed a bit the main cover which gives the bike its most distingishable curves and now the hole thing is 20.000 polys. Further optimization is needed and i will probably try to smooth the cover better.

 

Exhaust pipes are partly a placeholder for now since part of then will be covered and they will end in the 5 holes in the back of the bike, like in the reference imagen on 1st post.

loved the CBR600, i'm looking forward to seeing this one progress into ingame too, the detail on this so far is really good.

 

this is a definite for GTA-IV when the zmod2 filter works properly with Bikes, keep up the good work wink.gif

Looking awesome mate, you should finish the smoothed mesh, bake the normal/specular/diffuse maps and retopo the mesh.

Btw, just an idea, When you done with this awesome bike, perhaps you could make an Aprilia FV2 Concept also?

It looks a bit like the Custom bike in TLAD, but it would be way too awesome if a great modder like you could make that!

I prefer to keep the poly count below a reasonable limit, the game runs slow enough for me already tounge.gif

 

Besides, if done well, many things will look almost the same as it would look on high poly. Since i started posting this topic i have optimized the mesh a lot and at the moment it looks much better than in the first post, yet it has 1000 polys less.

 

Also i think 3ds max doesnt shade lowpoly meshes like a game. Ingame the model will look more natural. smile.gif

I love it! I like the handlebars a lot! I also think that this bike will be perfect for IV cuz the bikes from IV are really fun to ride and they react great.
