1ManArmy
Awesome statue indeed, but what interests me more is the last 3 videos posted by Otter. If that's what ordinary civilians can build, then i'd love to see what the Military has created in terms of powered mechs, particularly the U.S and Japan. Don't expect giant foot lumbering robots as it will just be a sitting duck especially with the limited technology we have now. An anti tank missile from a plane would easily destroy the giant clumsy thing from far. It's not as if they've found some special armour that can be light and super strong against missiles to make a giant robot. The 'robots' the military are making now though are those that provide transportation of baggage, weapons etc and has an all-terrain capabilities. They also already have remote spy planes. Right now, there are prototypes of small caterpillar tracks machines that you can mount a weapon on and is more accurate with it. But it is also remote controlled. You have robots that diffuses bombs too. When people think robots, people automatically assume 'gundam' or giant big things with swords and sh*t. No. This isn't an anime. The robots that will help the military is alot different and even more useful than a giant clumsy robot. Edited July 4, 2009 by 1ManArmy

I should have specified that i meant more along the lines of 'Powered Armour' than 'Giant clumsy vulnerable robot'. Think T-51b from Fallout 3 rather than Gundam/ Code Geass. My point is, don't expect so much at the moment. The technology and software the military has is already nerve racking. Unmanned drones patrolling an area and armed with missiles? Yeah, those are 'robots' you know.

Yeah, those are 'robots' you know. Again what you are saying is correct, yet i'm not talking about robots, what i mean is a composite material armour suit with hydraulics in the limbs powered by a microfusion pack or energy cells. TruXter
If you guys are talking of life size battle bots. Either of you consider remote control? As he said (paraphrasing) "if just some guy can make that, imagine what the government can do" The guy who quoted back and debated the thought, forgot to factor in that it will not be exactly the same. budgets are greater, more people calculating and predicting more issues before it happens. so the thing would be remote, or better balanced, and or 200 times faster. or all the above. I bet it would be less expensive compared to a tank, or a human life.
The-King
f*ck yeah, I've been a huge Gundam fan ever since Gundam Wing first aired on Toonami before Cartoon Network decided to quit being an enjoyable network. I'd love to see this in person, though it's not really to scale, it's about 1/4 scale or so from what I've seen in the shows. Still, gotta' love those crazy Japs. |PropagandaIncorporated:|: Steam:|: DeviantArt:|: Last.FM|
DeeperRed
If I had a clue what Gundam is then maybe I would be more impressed.. I mean huge robots are cool but interms of design, size etc its not really awe inspiring. Its not like it s a full functioning robot. I wouldn't put anywhere near my top 100 awesome structures. Its just an oversized toy and any country to do one of those. Its just most goverments don't see it as a good thing to do with tax payer money. *MURDOC*
Id love a gas-powered horse I could ride around on, thatd be so badass. I love this Gundam and all the radass sh*t in this thread! I think Spain has a 50 foot Mazinger-Z.
Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake
Id love a gas-powered horse I could ride around on, thatd be so badass. So something like this? Or this? And since this has become a robot thread, check out this: It's called "Big Dog" and it's kinda creepy. Looks and sounds like a giant fly without the wings, and it's movement is so lifelike. I suppose this could become a robot horse. And I want one of these.
mrpain
Damn Japanese are sure some crazy motherf*ckers. Havent anyone seen terminators? These robots will go crazy someday and try to takeover the world! f*cking Japanese!

The video won't load up, but the default pic. thing for the video reminds me of Crying Wolf from MGS4. Next step is for the Japanese to make a life-size Metal Gear Rex with M61 Vulcan Gatling guns, rocket launchers, a laser beam cannon, and a railgun. RARusk
So it's an awe-inspiring commemoration of the Gundam mecha design that started it all. Frankly, I'd now love to see a life-size Godzilla animatronic, who's with me? Being a big G-Fan I definitely think that is a good idea. But doing Kiryu (aka MechaGodzilla 3 - "Gojira X MechaGojira", "Gojira X Mothra X MechaGojira: Tokyo S.O.S") would be better than that. "One day I will think of this as just another job. After all, this is what I do."
