I don't agree. First of all, it's your opinion. That doesn't mean anyone thinks like that and that it is a fact. Second, not everyone can model a high-quality car in one two three, it's a learning process. Conversion is the most easy way of getting models in-game, but it still is hard. Have you tried to convert a car to IV, and can you say that it was as easy as could be and that you never had bugs/things to figure out? Third, I think that like.. 1% of the people who download mods think the way you think, and 99% olnly cares about the quality and how it looks like, not where it comes from. Fourth, you say we should work together with a moddeler who makes its own cars, and put those in-game. But do you really think that there are pro modellers who give away high-quality models for free? Is that why modelsites are stuffed with thousands of cars which cost over 200$? Sorry, but I don't think that we can find a lot of models like that.

I'm only working with Zmodeler since last saturday and my first 'conversion' (oh wait, it's not a conversion if it's from turbosquid according to you) is almost finished. This was my first step into Zmod, and I might try making my own model later on. But converting is not being lame/lazy because you say so, it's part of a learning process.

It has to start somewhere, it has to start sometime. What better place than here, what better time than now.

I was about to say that senneken biggrin.gif

Even changing materials is very hard for me in zmodeler. And people, like me only care about the quality of the mods. I'm not making mods to be famous...

Back to topic: Any update on the RTS (maybe a release date or sth?) and about the crown vic?

Kind regards,

Me.

The only difficult for me in converting to IV is on porting my object to zmodeler, and as I just can't be bothered with it, I'm waiting for 3dmax script. And it doesn't look hard, from my SA experience I already have ideas of how the stuff works. Learning from conversions is an excuse. you can make a boxy car and work from that to 'fix' the conversion bugs.

And what about the artist of the original car? do they care what you do with your vehicles? About using models from other games, you're giving them for free instead of buying them with the game, so that is illegal afaik (You should read the long-ass text when you play these games wink.gif most say that you're not allowed to use the content from the game outside the game)

And if I would have posted my work on turbosquid or whatever for download, I would like to know what people do with it, what I mean is, you should email the author and tell him what you're doing this, and also, include his name in the original credits.

And I've seen people posting conversions and saying 'scratch made work' No, scratch made means from zero, starting with the model wink.gif

And the way all the people in this topic is not following the rules said by people is amusing, so many people requesting, posting mods/videos about cars that aren't from them, so many 'car released in 30 mins, you know where ' God damn spam.

I agree with supermortal human because what he said is correct. You won't get much respect after showing off SOMEBODY else's work. Trust me, you think converting is hard? Then wait until you get to modeling AND getting it to work ingame. Then you'll understand. That statistic is completely and 100 percent stupid and you know it. When a newbie in modding comes along and makes a crappy mod and puts it in game by himself we won't care about the quality, we'll care about where it came from and we know that it came from a person without much experience who is trying his/her best to learn.

First of all, i wrote that piece of text being a 16 year old newbie in moddeling/modding. I have never worked with Zmodeler/3DSmax before, only sketchup (making houses and stuff, pretty funny), and by converting I really learn how moddeling works, how dummies work, how materials work,.. I can say that for myself. So it's the first part of a learning process, I hope I will one day release my self-made car mod for a game or on a website whatsoever. By saying you have experience from SA, you seem to have totally missed my point. I was talking in name of them who only started modding like a week ago, and started from nothing. For "pro's" like you, conversion seems to be just lame/lazy. But everyone started as a noob.

To respond on your copyright thingy: I'm not talking about conversions from games here, i'm talking about putting free models from sites like turbosquid in-game. I totally understand why you can't upload models that are made by game delevopers and such. I just don't understand why you may not show screens.

When you upload a car to turbosquid, you agree with the fact that it's going to be downloaded and used in other things, and that it will be released on sites with other meanings. If you don't want that to happen, you shouldn't upload it on a website for free. So I do not agree with the first statement you make, though I completely agree with the fact that you should mention the creators' name when you release a mod which uses his model. Saying that you made the model yourself is awful, so I'm going to mention the author's name. I even put it in almost every post, so I guess that's no problem.

@ OC student: Since I'm only working with Zmodeler for a week: Yes, converting is hard for me. sarcasm.gif But once I master it and once I know what models are based off, I can create them myself. And when you mention that the model is not yours but from another person, you're showing off his work, not yours. You just modified it a little.

Oh, and for this quote:

When a newbie in modding comes along and makes a crappy mod and puts it in game by himself we won't care about the quality, we'll care about where it came from and we know that it came from a person without much experience who is trying his/her best to learn.

Does that mean I shoud release this:

?

Download database would be flooded with crappy mods when every newbie releases its first mod, when no-one cares about the quality. dozingoff.gif

Video of my Ford Conversion is coming soon, release might be for tomorrow. Anyone who has problems with that? Please send me a PM.

Uh no the converters just need to learn to model!

It's not that hard to learn, and once you learn it you get more respect anyways. icon14.gif

I know i'll have a few nice scratch made mods (in my opinion) sometime soon. icon14.gif

Oh well, don't hope too much, since this is my first conversion (model not by me) and there are some things that look a little sh*tty (like the front lights) which I can't get better. But the body is pretty fine, so are the wheels and the interior (from turismo).

Release will be tomorrow. smile.gif

Ugh, that GT40 looks amazing, but it neeeeeeeds the stripes, it's like a core part of the design. Still going to download, but please, please see what you can do on that front.

Been working on it, still a lot to do.

I was wondering how do you guys get the wheel textures to show? Mine refuse to unless I import GTA IV wheels. Also, how do you get a metallic reflection?

I'm going to say this one more time, before we start handing out bans. It seems some of you cannot understand the rules or posts made in this topic.

•This topic is for showing off YOUR work, not anyone elses.

•The standard Modding rules apply, I Strongly suggest people read them.

•Releases belong in the showroom, do not release your car here. Any releases in this topic will be removed.

•NO REQUESTS. We have pinned topics for requests, keep them to there. Do not spam up this topic with requests for handling, additions to cars or any other type of requests.

If I work on a conversion for my own interests, can I post images here to support my questions? As above.

BTW senneken, change the material of the light glass to vehglass; then detach the headlights from the model and make them the material lightsemissive. That should work for you.

Hey dr, I dint know you modeled tounge.gif

As for wheels, are you not using wheels from in-game, are you using other wheels from outside gtaiv ?

Senneken was having trouble to get wheels to show up right but he ended up using a custom wheel finally and using the original car's tire and inner part of the rim, not the design w/in the rim, jus the original rim circumference. Sorry if none of that helps..
