Hey guys!

I am new to this and have had problems with my GTA san andreas.

I am trying to run it on my netbook, which can be done quite easily APPARENTLY, haha.

I have done all the stuff to get it to play without the disk and have the GTA folder under program files.

However, everytime i try to run the game, it wont even start and comes up with an error messages saying, "cannot find 800x600x32 video mode". I have tried everything to do with the gta_sa.set/exe files, but to no avail. I would like it to play in the lenovo's widescreen res of 1024x576 if possible???

Its a lenovo s10e, with 1 gig of RAM, and the intel chipset graphics media accelerator(maximum of 128Mb), apparently with this graphics card i should just give up now, but i beleive it can be done? GTA3 runs beautifully smooth and clear. I have updated all the drivers by the way, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated and please dont be rude, all I need is help. I would like it to play in the lenovo's widescreen res of 1024x576 if possible???

Thanks very much!! sigh.gifsigh.gif

Probably your laptop does not support that resolution. Can you run other games at that resolution?

You can try forcing that resolution and see if it works. Create a shortcut for gta_sa.exe. Right-click on it > Properties > Shortcut. In the target field, give a space after the path and type this: -width=800 -height=600

Then Apply > Ok and run the game.

Let us know if it works.

thanks girishb, umm...it doesnt work :-(

My laptop doesnt support that resolution, only 1024x576 at 16 or 32 bit, but on my other computer the display menu in GTA gives the widescreen option of 1024x576 which is wat i need, so I know it can be done.

I tried your suggestion, but it comes up with the same error message...anything else???...please.???

I did then install GTA3 to see if it would work, and it did, after it converted the video sizes by itself???

So I know it can run GTA SA...

Please help,

Thank you so much :-)

Just a little bit of extra information...Even if i try run it in 600x480x32, the minmum res( i think) it still brungs up the same error message

Lil weasle, I havent tried because it defeats the object of solving this problem and having the mobility of the game on the laptop, because it is a netbook it doesnt have an optical drive, btw, so thats why i cant play it with the disk in the drive

Your problem IS that the game won't play with a no-cd crack.

lil weasle?? where can i get a crack from, and do you think that that would cause the resolution error problem???

I am also not sure of your suggestion because i set it all up on my desktop computer to test it first and it played fine mate, not a problem,

do you think i need a crack to solve the res problem tho??? if so where can i get it from?

We're not allowed to disuss the No-CD Crack here as it falls under the warez categlory.

As for the problem at hand, I don't think you'll be able to get that resolution on your netbook. I mean, netbooks only have a 8-10 inch screen.

OK against my better judgement I have re-opened this topic. However please keep the discussion centred around getting GTA SA running on a netbook LEGITIMATELY. That means NO discussion of cracks at all.

One of the gaming magazines ran a feature about 3 months ago on games to play on a netbook - and claimed SA (and VC) would work easily on current netbooks. They cited Steam as the place to get them from (in which case the issue moderated on above wouldn't apply).

But what I wondered was - are they right that these games will run OK on netbooks at all? It sounded pretty unlikely (and the OP has clearly hit an issue with it), would be useful to have it confirmed one way or the other.

  • 2 months later...

ok ppl i had that same 800x600x32 video mode problem

i hav a notebook pc and it meets all requirements of san andreas

some of guys here r saying this error is occuring bcoz of downloaded or illegal copy of game instead of bought game or some crack issue

basic problem is that gta:sa will not run on monitors not having normal resolutions like 800x600 or 1024x768 and so on...

and that's most common case with notebook pcs. they don't support these resolutions e.g. mine has a resolution of 1024x576 instead of 1024x768

SOLUTION:

i searched google 3 hours to find a solution but hell nobody has any solution to it!

however, i hav resolved it myself

as far as my notebook pc is concerned, it has an external monitor outlet i.e. i can connect it to another monitor,

so wat i did was simply connected a monitor

and while display appearing on that monitor instead of my notebook, i just ran SAN ANDREAS and VOILA!!!!

IT WORKED!!!

So if u hav got an external monitor option, just transfer display on it and u CAN run the game!

for those who don't hav one, well sorry but u need a new pc if u want to run this game

P.S.

THIS ERROR HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH LEGAL OR ILLEGAL COPIES OF GAME OR ANY NOCD CRACK!

Its not compatible with your graphic card i have nvidia and its working kool with it.

That is not entirely true, my XP Pro laptop has a Intel Graphic Media Accelerator card, and I have no problems running the game on it.

On-topic, Your best bet for running the game on a netbook, is to get a USB type External DVD/CD drive and play the game with the Original disc-they are cheap now a days less than $60 in most cases-like, here's one for less than $70. This is the only option besides getting the Steam version, which doesn't make sense, since it is twice the price of the retail version($20 Steam/$10 for retail).

The lowest setting is 640X480, just right click the .exe and check the box "run in 640X480" and see if that helps.

remember, that netbooks typically only have either 8.1 or 10.1 inch screens-unlike the 14-17 inch ones available on pretty much all regular laptops, thus that is why you may not be able to use that resolution. I suggest trying the 640X480 one and the game should run fine. Plus with the External DVD/CD drive, it WILL run better, I have got the game working great on my mom's netbook-an HP with Intel Atom processor(1.6GHZ), 1GB RAM, Intel GMA, XP Home SP3, with the External DVD/CD drive and using the SA disc(V2). The optical drive is the exact same one I linked you to above, btw.

Try installing Official 1.01 Patch. I'm sure you will get some extra resolution options if you install official patch . If you own a game you might not have problem installing a patch. I just bought some stuff for my gaming rig n had issues with resolution not being 1280x720 but as I installed patch game started to run better along with added resolution options. Of course I cant help you with the issue of DVD. Borrow someones(friends-family-work) USB-DVD Drive try testing with patch installed.

Resolutions Available After Patch Installation

640x480

800x600

1024x768

1280x768

1280x720*

720x576*

* 1.01 Additions

Good Luck biggrin.gif

As far as I know, the 1.01 patch only works for V1 games, and all it does really is remove the Hot Coffee from the game. I don't think it would work on a V2 game.? So, that might not be an option if you have a V2 copy(which the chances are high since that is all that is sold now a days.)...

Yes radioman I forgot to mention V1 thing. Patch is only for V1 games.

Most of the update patches after initial release contains some kind of additions, bugfixes etc. Cold Coffee(v1.01) patch primarily remove Hot Coffee but also does some texture fixes with added resolutions. Resolutions is something I can say for sure.

I dont own the V2 so yes its off my limits.

Display Cards often support wide range of resolutions regardless its type(Integrated or GFX Card). It's the Displays that are limited in terms of resolution options.

Though Already said I repeat

He either have to bend game behavior and run it in supported modes(of his display) else have to arrange for supporting display.

OKay guys...um...wow just checked this post, this is extremely frustrating.

I still cant run it :-( I am just confused cos GTAIII runs fine and it even brought up a message stating that it was rebuilding the resolution?!?!?

I donno wat to do, I hate to give up but...looks like thats wat i am gonna have to do :-(

Wat i tried was to use an external monitor, the game started fine and then I changed the settings to 1024x576, which it gives you!!!!

then as i clicked start it keeps freezing halfway through loading...? so i presume then it wont save the widescreen settings?

Hello .

If someone is still suffering from this problem , Here's a simple but effective fix !

Firstly , on the desktop , Right click and choose "Graphic Properties" (There will be an Intel icon near it) So click on Graphic properties that has Intel icon near it .

Next , Click on "Display" tab . Click on "Custom Resolutions" .

There will be a warning . Just continue by pressing "Yes" .

Under "Add" tab , Enter the following .

In width box : 800

In height box : 600

In refresh rate box : 60

That's all you need to do . Just click "Add" button located in the bottom right corner and add it . Close the graphic properties .

Open GTA Sanandreas and Enjoy :):) . Thank me later :)

(Note , you can change the resolution in > Settings > Display Settings > Advanced Display Settings > Resolution)

The other fixes,
1. Have a machine that meets the requirements to run the game.
2. If you have a legit DVD v1 game and do not intend to modify it. Install the Official Patch v1.01.

3. Buy the Game, if you do not...
