3 Years ago, I never played any real FPS.

Now Ive moved to PC and Love them even more, just get a better mouse tounge2.gif

I have nothing against them, but I really don't play them all that much. I prefer stuff like GTA, Assassin's Creed, etc.

Ahh, the good old days of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Games like COD Modern Warfare 2 or any other FPS will never have the amount of spirit they had. Microsoft totally butchered all of the Rare game re-release/re-make/"sequels" for the Xbox 360 by the way, i'm talking about the N64.

There was a time when PC gaming was safe because people knew the mouse look is superior to immersing the person into the head of the player and we kept gaming alive by ignoring FPS games on consoles unless they were groundbreaking :'(

Mouselook being superior is a persons personal preference, personally i can adapt to and use both quite well so really don't care. As for your other statement, it is untrue that PC Kept gaming alive. Wheras a lot of gaming innovations have been achieved on PC, just as many have been made on consoles as well. By utilising the unique features offered by consoles and PC we help keep gaming alive, not one singular device can be thanked for this as it's a team effort.

Ha.

First of all FPS owns.

Second, RE5 and MGS4 werent FPS.

Third, mercs2 sucked. Gta4 also sucked except the driving.

I used to prefer third person games, just because I got to see my character and had a much larger field of view.

But FPS has its draws and if it doesnt do anything for you then I dout many modern games will.

no no, misunderstood me wink.gif PC gaming was safe when gamers were not willing to play FPS on consoles. Gaming is far from in danger, PC aspect is in danger, and do not trust them when they say "it's fine" because they are not done yet, and you will see exactly what I'm saying here (my 'vote' above, and what follows this) more and more unfortunately for us, and fortunately for the leaders of the world (I know this because all of the people who think they are "informed" and "staying up to date with the news that is created to make them not notice it" think I'm just making it up, you don't even realize it is happening to us all nor even realize what it means for your freedom). Because FPS won't stop just because we don't play them on consoles. But PC games will stop the more they put Web 2.0 and internet on consoles and sell to people that don't care about games the way we care about games. The more of "them" (those who know piss about PC's and only game on consoles and only surf sites like Myspace, Twitter, and Facebook and literally do NOT know how to google OR trust that site - there are more than you think, and they are becoming a louder voice in games than gamers - and the companies are doing it on purpose). The casual crowd not knowing about PC games was what got FPS into the door on consoles as a mainstream genre. You must admit PC gaming as taken a hit ever since the line between what goes good on console and what goes good on PC has been blurred. RTS games don't do well on console, yet nowadays there are some and some more in development.

There was a time where the only acceptable FPS on a console was Goldeneye, and that was just because we couldn't play it on PC at the time. Perfect Dark too. Duke 3D did not get attention on consoles like it got on PC's. Sonic and Mario got that.

The less 'casual gamers' have to use the PC, the more your freedom will suffer. The more "MASS AUDIENCE" they can funnel into the "set top boxes" (in 1998, bill gates said their console would be a PC replacement one day after it comes out, PS3 was sold as a PC and Blu Ray player more than a game console in the beginning) - the more of the ignorant crowd they remove from the PC on facebook and put onto the Console in facebook with "much easier way to facebook!" the dumber and more generic the crowd will become, the louder the voices of the "MASS AUDIENCE" become, the less the gamer is listened to, the less PCs are used, the more they lock it back down to their idea of the "good old days" where PC was for workers and civilians are stupid and in shock and awe at a machine that connects to their TV. Basically. smile.gif

Mouse look is indeed preference to an extent. But a joypad will Never give you a quick turn of "the neck" it will always be a set speed (whether you can adjust it or not) and it will never give you the control your mouse gives you - never. It just isn't same kind of input. confused.gif

In the next few years games will not be catering to gamers, they will be catering to the general public that only knows about web2.0 and nothing else. It is devastating to the future of games, if you are not one of those people who don't know copy from paste... Let alone know how to navigate anything but myspace... Tugging my sleeve to ask "where to paste the code? where is about me section?" THOSE people are the people who shall be invited to gaming - which is bigger than just games, it is the smart and savvy tech crowd - and taint it. It is happening Now.

The console crowd is indeed to blame.

Not Mr. Conspiracy Theory going off on console lovers too, OH NOOOOooooooooooo!!!!

Thanks but no thanks, an analog in place of a mouse, I'll take it, and I am pretty dang happy with it too!!

The thing you should be aware of is that there is a keyboard AND mouse adapter for the Xbox 360, and it even has a PS2 port on it!!

(available locally here at MicroCenter store)

Quote:

I don't mind them. The only thing I don't like is how linear most of them are. I like FPS, with sandbox style gameplay like FarCry 2.

Reply:

I have a keen interest to look into and purchase Far Cry 2 and Bad Company. I looked at the Brady Guide I believe, for Bad Co, looks like splendid graphics in that one... I have always held reservations about getting a FPS, I clearly prefer third person like GTA4.

I wish Ghostbusters didn't try and straddle the line between the two, it is annoying and lacks immersion doing that with the camera!

Please, don't call me Mr Conspiracy Theory anymore. You can look back on this post in a few years and say "I wish we all would have known" and I can say "I tried to tell you", just like I told people a lot of things and deal with this all the time and never have I been wrong. There is a difference between an analyst and a conspiracy theorist, a very large difference. Thanks. Because just because it is alien to you does not mean it is incorrect. The logic is sound, the sh*t has been talked about for years, people said it would happen, people called them crazy or "conspiracy nuts" and NOW when it is happening in real life, you ignore it, and deny it, and don't realize it... Until it's too late... in which case, you return to the first sentence of my response here. Please don't take for granted what you have right now, please don't turn the other way and be part of the mess.

I love FPS games. Although with some of them like CSS and COD you just get players that play 24/7 and just pound you into the ground too much that makes you want to just stop playing all together if you're just a casual gamer.

There is absolutely no skill involved playing those games. Like I said I'm a CS 1.6 player. I've always been good at FPS. But that game is just crazy. If you're good at CS 1.6 online you can play just about any FPS game on hardest difficulty. After years and years of playing CS 1.6 I decided to try CSS one day. So I chose a server and I pretty much f*cked up every player there. No skill needed whatsoever. I got banned for no reason except being too good after half an hour. I just said "noob game" so I uninstalled it and I never played it again. Same with CoD, except you have the iron sight view that makes things a lot easier. CoD4 on consoles is fun, but on PC it's just a mediocre FPS game with no skill required to play it. I addmit thought, CoD 1 and CoD2 multiplayer was fantastic on PC smile.gif

Where did you get this gift?

I don't know. It is more like a curse, though.

Slamman: Super Mortal is not like Super Human.

I am Very Mortal = Super Mortal (I can't find the real definition of SuperMortal, but it is how I mean it). I am just a human. I am very mortal human. I am capable of things you assume are just in the movies. I am no different from you. I am human, like everyone else. But I am aware of something about our humanity that very few others seem to be aware of. It's not a bad thing. In fact, it sucks to be me. Because I live with guilt of saying things, being called a liar or consp theorist and then I am proven right and I don't feel bad at all. Then I feel guilt for not feeling bad and being like "See, I told you so. Should have listened. Now clean up the rubble and reap what you've sewn" (example) - it makes me feel like a monster, because it's not those people's fault they didn't listen, it's something elses fault (it's a whole different discussion).

They're impossible to play online, but meh any game kills time. I'd judge a game on their merits, opposed to their respective genres anyway (not that I'm really fussed on games mind you).

P.S. Phul, stop using my account eh smile.gif .

Super Human Mortal is how I read and typed your name up the first time I replied, it makes little difference as such.

If you like to draw conclusions to outcomes as foreseen, then you need to see the Terminator movies.

Back to topic however, What can I say?

There is clearly different people playing games, and once there's one large group getting press, it's presumed most like that, which I argue is not the case. At least from everyone who plays a gaming device, casual and otherwise.

One of the Edge magazine's topics in regard to consoles up next was that the Die Hard gaming users are clearly a niche and not one the industry really focuses all their attention on. If they did, would we be hearing complaints from them?

They appear to get an embarressment of riches with regard to computer technology, which in reality, could fall stagnant too.

Thing that I ponder is why most are war simulation genre

Well I used to have a bad attitude towards FPS games. My gf suggested early last year that we d/l the Resistance 1 demo for a laugh. I wasn't fussed but the gameplay got me hooked & I bought the full game 3 days later. Since that I bought RSV:1 & 2/KillZone 2 & Resistance 2, & love them all. So in general i'm quite a fan of FPS.

To above; There is a BIG difference between offline & online play.

I love FPS games. MY favourite FPS games are CS:S, TF2, and COD4. I play CS:S most oftenm because it is honestly the most fun game of all time. I agree that playing on public servers usually sucks ass, and I hardly ever play public. I play "mixes" or "Wars" which is like 5 players from one team vs. another team of 5 players with my clan. Warring is so fun on CS:S mostly because it is very tactical, and strategic, and I enjoy that. I like TF2 aswell, and the public is really fun. I like the goldrush maps, but it does get a little boring after awhile.

I play COD4 on the ps3, but then I traded it in, which was very foolish, because it is an amazing game to be honest. I was really good at it when I played, and was part of a really good clan, but then I got hooked on PC gaming, and lost my skill. It was the first FPS game I played, and it is a really really good.

To be honest though the thing that makes FPS games so fun is the online gameplay, and for CS:S, and TF2 they don't even have a story mode, and the COD4 story mode is really good, and alot of original, and different ideas, but it is just to god damn short. I finished it in literally 4 hours on Veteran. The enemies suck ass, and I flew threw the game so easily, enjoying it but at the same time wondering how the hell I had finished it so easily. Honestly it is probably the fastest, and easiest I have ever completed a game on the hardest level (Except maybe Halo3).

I also like playing resistance 2 online when I'm bored. The online play is good, and playing with 60 people is really fun, but when I'm playing badly I get bored very fast. The only reason I actually enjoy playing it is probably because it is so easy, and usually I end up raging because there is some 9 year old sitting on his mic. Shame I can' play my PS3 anymore, but it is another good FPS game, but the story ain' great whereas the online play is truly epic.

Anyway to answer the question FPS games definetely get a thumbs up for me, but in a FPS game I usually look for great online gameplay, and not a good story mode, because the online gameplay is just sooo much better, and leads to hours/days/weeks/months/years of fun. Honestly I have been playing CS:S for nearly two years, and I still enjoy it as much as I did the day I purchased it, probably more since then I played on laggy sh*t public servers.

I got banned for no reason except being too good after half an hour. I just said "noob game" so I uninstalled it and I never played it again

I highly doubt you got banned for being "to good" You may have gotten banned off some sh*tty public server, I know from experience that when kids get beaten on there own server they like to flex there ban-stick, but there are like more than ten thousand other servers you could play on. Also you wouldn't have been VAC banned, because VAC only ban if they detect a game hack on your steam account or whatever. VAC do not except or ban from video or screenshot evidence of hacking so I highly doubt that VAC would just ban you for being "to good", so would you care to explain what you meant by this statement?

There is absolutely no skill involved playing those games.

Also CS:S is a game that requires skill. Maybe not if your playing on some bad 33tick public server, but when playing in wars. I admit playing at a low skill level is really easy, but when you start playing mid/mid+ mix teams you begin to play a team that match your level. People say 1.6 is way harder than CS:S, but honestly I played CS:S for a year before I played 1.6, and I started playing 1.6, and immediately started playing against mid skilled teams. It was extremely easy for me to pick up, and I just think it is a really easy game. I stopped playing it because honestly it is pretty awful. The recoil is just f*cked up. The awping is awkward and clumsy. The walls are like permeable, which is just stupid. The hitboxes are awful, and the maps are really ugly. It also f*cked up my CS:S aim really badly, because of the horrible recoil. This is just my opinion though wink.gif.

CoD 1 and CoD2 multiplayer was fantastic on PC smile.gif

Quoted for the Truth. Im currently a member of of a clan for each, one for CoD, and another for CoD2. Thing is, Call of Duty has gotten overhyped. The first ones were great and amazing, but now the most newer ones such as CoD4/WaW are just full of so called "1337 speakers" who think they are always the best at everything and whatnot. Same thing with Guitar Hero, the firs ones were good, but after III, sh*t just went downhill. I seems they make another GH after like 2/3 months, and that total rippoff "Greatest Hits" is one of the worst scams ever.

Anyways, im getting a bit off-topic here. Yes, as stated in my previous post, Love them, as long as they arent overhyped.

People who prefer 3PS over FPS are not necessarily going to `hate` FPSs, so I think this topic misses out identifying an important preference in gaming, so I`m going to start a new poll to find out which is the most popular.

It was. It had a lot of potential, but all the environments were bland and unmemorable. I don't really believe that it was the gunplay but just how the game worked itself.

Some great FPS games that focus mainly on melee are the games in the Condemned series. They're scary as hell and provide you with a lot of puzzles as well. Man, I could never play that game, but I watched my brother play it, and the melee stuff going on in that FPS is really pretty awesome.

I love both FPS and 3rdPS games. In 3rdPS there are always more features and usually a better storyline. And you see the character which is awesome. But you can't compare them really. I can't say which genre I prefer. Maybe there are more 3rdPS games that I play, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are all better then some FPS games I play. But if you make a poll I think I'll vote for 3rdPS. There is more to those games then just shooting stuff. Just look at GTA and Max Payne smile.gif
