Okay guys, here we go again; deciding places.

Out of the films eliminated in Round 4, choose your personal favourite five. Again this time, you must choose five or your post will be ignored. If you've not seen five of the films listed at the bottom... this competition has been a waste of time.

This should be easy, given the quality of the list of films.

Also, once again, posts must be made in this format, or they will be ignored;

Film 1:Film 2:Film 3:Film 4:Film 5:Justification:

I know I'm repeating myself a fair bit here, but again; what order the films go in counts. As, Film 1 will receive five positive points and Film 5 will receive one positive point. So put your absolute favourite first, and so on. How much justification you provide is up to you, but please provide some.

I'll probably leave this open for a bit after I get back, but like I said in the existing topic, do me proud guys.

Last, and most importantly, the list of films eliminated in Round 4:

A Clockwork Orange [Dir. Stanley Kubrick, 1971]

American History X [Dir. Tony Kaye, 1998]

Die Hard [Dir. John McTiernan, 1988]

Great Escape, The [Dir. John Sturges, 1963]

Jaws [Dir. Steven Spielberg, 1975]

Seven Samurai [Dir. Akira Kurosawa, 1954]

Silence of the Lambs [Dir. Jonathan Demme, 1991]

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back [Dir. Irvin Kershner, 1980]

Film 1: Jaws [Dir. Steven Spielberg, 1975]

Film 2: Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back [Dir. Irvin Kershner, 1980]

Film 3: Great Escape, The [Dir. John Sturges, 1963]

Film 4: Silence of the Lambs [Dir. Jonathan Demme, 1991]

Film 5: Die Hard [Dir. John McTiernan, 1988]

Justification:

1. My favourite film of all time and my 1st nomination of this competition. I've justified this film in so many of it's topics already that I'd only be repeating myself if said it all again.

2. I'm a huge Star Wars freak and I'm not afraid to say it. This is just an amazing, epic, fantasy filled film that just calls for repeated viewings. Even then it doesn't get boring. Hoth, Cloud City...The Revelation! all make this great in so many ways.

3. An absolute gem of a film that takes an otherwise boring concept and executes it perfectly. An excellent script filled with witty and funny dialogue and a cast of loveable characters, who will have you rooting for them all to the very end make this a must see.

4. Probably one of the greatest thrillers of all time and one of the rare happenings where the film is so much better than the original book. Hopkins is mesmerizing as the distinguished yet psychotic Lecter and Ted Levine brilliant as the deranged Buffalo Bill.

5. The greatest action and Christmas movie of all time? Yes, I think so. Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman make this a blast of a film.

Film 1: Die Hard [Dir. John McTiernan, 1988]

Film 2: Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back [Dir. Irvin Kershner, 1980]

Film 3: Silence of the Lambs [Dir. Jonathan Demme, 1991]

Film 4: A Clockwork Orange [Dir. Stanley Kubrick, 1971]

Film 5: Seven Samurai [Dir. Akira Kurosawa, 1954]

Justification:

1. The best action film I've ever seen and my favorite film of all time. It makes me feel great by the end of it. It has great action, a great story, one of the best heroes and one of the best villains and great dialogue. It is a shame this won't make it to the top 10.

2. This should of got to the top 10 too. A childhood favorite that is still just as entertaining if not more entertaining as an adult. Many classic images are in this movie from the Hoth battle to Vader revealing him being Luke's father. Truely a classic.

3. One of if not the best thriller out there. So many great things about this movie. The atmosphere and the pace are terrific, Buffalo Bill is horrifying and an effective villain, Hannibal Lecter manages to steal the show with not even too much screen time (another great movie prison break) and the ending is perfect.

4. One of my favorites from one of my favorite directors of all time. Great adaptation of a great book.

5. Epic. Just epic. An influential masterpiece.

Film 1: Seven Samurai

Film 2: A Clockwork Orange

Film 3: The Empire Strikes Back

Film 4: Jaws

Film 5: Die Hard

Justification:

SS: Can't believe it lost to Shawshank. Yeah, it's a nice story and "it has Morgan Freeman in it" but Seven Samurai is an actual masterpiece. Deserves to be higher than 9.

ACO: A disturbing, enthralling film. When I first saw it it was quite hard to watch the scene where they torture him and prise his eyelids open, even to this day it's quite uncomfortable to watch. Like Seven Samurai it deserves to be higher.

ESB: Fantastic thrill ride from start to finish, my favourite Star Wars no doubt.

Jaws: Probably the most suspenseful thriller ever made, quite a huge feat for such a simple concept. 3 men on a boat, 1 shark. It's as simple as that, and that's why I love it. Sometimes we need films like these to break from the convoluted plots we see now, listen up directors! Just because a story is complicated doesn't mean it's good.

Die Hard: Fantastic thrill ride just like ESB, but with more action, more gore, and more badass sh*t going down. The only reason it's lower down than ESB is because Star Wars has a more interesting universe as a whole. There's much more to it, but Die Hard is the best action film ever made.

Have fun on the meet, paps. smile.gif

Film 1: Seven Samurai

Film 2: A Clockwork Orange

Film 3: The Empire Strikes Back

Film 4: Die Hard

Film 5: Silence of the Lambs

Justification: I tried to order these with a balance between which ones I find most significant and which are my favorites. Fortunately it was easy to do.

Hooray, I've actually seen 5 of the films. And...here...we...GO.

Film 1: Seven Samurai

Film 2: Silence of the Lambs

Film 3: The Great Escape

Film 4: Die Hard

Film 5: American History X

J1: Well, duh. It fells redundant to write why this is #1 on mine, and other's lists. Like that guy said, "It is that good."

J2: A seriously creepy movie that thoroughly entertained me, with fine acting to boot. I can't hear Goodbye Horses without getting chills.

J3: All-star POW WWII flick, what's not to love? Plus Steve McQueen on motorcycle = iconic film moment.

J4: Gotta admit I do kinda love the first DH. Great story, great action, and Alan Rickman was pretty boss. Plus, walking barefoot on glass!

J5: Another film I really, really liked. But not more than the others. Pretty awesome plot, good acting, and a gut-wrenching end.

Film 1: Seven Samurai

Film 2: Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Film 3: The Great Escape

Film 4: American History X

Film 5: Die Hard

Justification: I can't believe Seven Samurai lost to The Shawshank Redemption. In my opinion, Seven Samurai is far better. Anyway, I tried to balance this off on my internal favorite/impact scale in my head, and I'd rather put The Great Escape on number 1, but I don't think it deserves it when there's other better films involved.

Film 4: Great Escape, The [Dir. John Sturges, 1963]

Film 5: A Clockwork Orange [Dir. Stanley Kubrick, 1971]

Justification: Japenese masterpiece of modern cinema. The ultimate Fantasy-Sci-Fi-Action-Adventure film. The Thriller that takes a great, big bite. And the other two are great films as well. All deserve to be watched and re-watched and then maybe watched again a few more dozen times...

Film 2: Seven Samurai

Film 3: A Clockwork Orange

Film 4: American History X

Film 5: Great Escape, the.

Justification: These were easy to decide as each of them had left quite the impression on me. I was actually surprised a large number of these films didn't make it further, but oh well. f*ck yeah Star Wars.

Heh, why type the film list when someone else has done it for you?

Film 1: Jaws [Dir. Steven Spielberg, 1975]

Film 2: Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back [Dir. Irvin Kershner, 1980]

Film 3: Great Escape, The [Dir. John Sturges, 1963]

Film 4: Silence of the Lambs [Dir. Jonathan Demme, 1991]

Film 5: Die Hard [Dir. John McTiernan, 1988]

Justification:

1 Like 1408 did with hotel rooms, Jaws made me think twice before going to the beach. It takes a fair bit for a horror film to do that with me, so thats why I chose it.

2 My second favourite installment of my favourite film series. The story is darker than the original, and it finishes with a good cliffhnager. Plus the Hoth Battle was pretty good and the plot twist at the end...well, I didn't see it coming, but my dad said somehting would happen at the end (I watche dit with him when I was like eight or something).

3 Good old fashioned war movie, which has inspired god knows how many prison escapes in kovies and TV. An inpirational true story.

4 I liked the storyline and the acting. Plus, Hannibal Lecter is just the awesome sort of cold blooded sociopathic killer that I really like to see in a film.

5 The ultimate Christmas film. This emboides the spirit of the season: blowing up skyscrapers, shooting dirtbags and laughing like a loony. Plus the humour: when McClanes in ashootout and he calls the cops, the operator says "Thjis is for emergencies only"

McClNE: "No f*cking sh!t lady, do I sound like I'm ordering a f*cking pizza?"

PLus the body in the elevator

And the greatest one liner ever: "Yippe Kai Eh mother f*cker" (I always type it wrong, but it sounds the same)

Film 4: A Clockwork Orange [Dir. Stanley Kubrick, 1971]

Film 5: Jaws [Dir. Steven Spielberg, 1975]

Justification:

Well, I feel bad for not putting Die Hard in there. sad.gif We're really getting to the choosy bits.

Seven Samurai is easily one of the best films ever made. It and The Magnificent Seven (Another great John Sturges flick) are a couple of my favorite movies. Something about rooting for the underdogs, and justice prevailing... I don't know. Truly great adventure.

The Great Escape is probably one of the best POW films I've ever seen, and it has some stiff competition. Somehow, while the film manages to avoid anything overtly grotesque, the disgusting nature of the position these men are in really slaps you hard across the face.

Empire Strikes Back? Man, it's like that one comic book from your teenage collection that you're never going to let go of. All of the action, the campiness, the cheesy lines and fantastic set pieces - it's engrossing each and every time I watch it.

Clockwork Orange is a toughie for me - I love it on so many levels and yet it utterly disgusts me. It's like an abusive partner - I'll never learn. Despite the pain, it's one of the most imaginitive films I've ever seen, literally groping and molesting your eyeballs with every shot.

And Jaws - well, Dreyfuss and Scheider are true everymen thrust into the jaws of a mythical beast - in a modern setting. Scary? Sure, but you feel more frightened for the well being of our heroes than you are with any jumps or scares. Which the film has in spades - but the real strength here is the subtlety. The ultimate American monster movie.

Film 1: Seven Samurai

Film 2: Jaws

Film 3: Empire Strikes Back

Film 4: Silence of The Lambs

Film 5: A Clockwork Orange

Justification: Spoilt for choice here. All of these films are of such a high calibre. Seven Samurai is by far my favourite though. Epic is a word that has been mentioned alot for this film and I can't disagree with them.

Jaws is such a highly influential film. Often credited with the birth of the summer blockbuster. It still scares you to this very day, no matter how many times you watch it.

Star Wars was the next big summer blockbuster after Jaws and Empire Strikes Back is a film that took Star Wars to a new level. It's darker, more epic and you just can't help but love every character.

Silence of the Lambs is always going to be remembered for Anthony Hopkins' chilling performance but I want to mention Jodie Foster which can stand amongst Ripley and Sarah Connor as one of cinema's great strong female roles.

I love Clockwork Orange to death and so I feel it warrants a place in my top 5.

On a seprerate note...wow, the competition is almost at an end.

Film 1: Die Hard

Film 2: Silence of the Lambs

Film 3: American History X

Film 4: Jaws

Film 5: A Clockwork Orange

Justification: Die Hard is one of my favourite action movies of all time, and I think Bruce Willis' performance is f*cking awesome. Silence of the Lambs is also antoher one of my favourite movies; the connection between Jodie Foster and Sir Anthony Hopkins felt quite strong throughout the performance.

By the way, this is the first time I've voted, so let me know if I need to provide more justification or anything. I'm loving this, good idea. smile.gif

I started exploring TruTV's True Crime section because of the Criterion LD for Silence of the Lambs!

It first documented the killers in California and on that site as well, You'll find that Scott Glenn heard the tape Lawrence Bittaker made of the killings when he researched his role, he left emotionally distraught after that! The jury in the court case also heard those tapes! I can only imagine how terrible those are.

I wasn't planning to vote on this because I've not kept up since they started... I also don't see the same films that get culled. With American History X, there was nothing about it that stayed with me, I watched it but forgot most of it. Seems important to a few of you, but I wasn't enamored, simple as that.

Film 1: Die Hard

Film 2: Silence of the Lambs

Film 3: Jaws

Film 4: A Clockwork Orange

Film 5: Star Wars 2/5

Justification: Action, action, and well, more ACTION AND SUSPENSE!! FTW
