Gundog
Well, long story short, my dad just bought an Aprilia Shiver 750 2009. It's a beauty, but looking at his alcohol and crash-laden history, I'm concerned he might kill himself one day. Just yesterday, he gave me a ride, and I barely twisted the gas, and it almost pulled me off. It's a monster machine, and I don't think he's quite ready for it. Let me tell you about my father's mishaps from the past. He had a Kawasaki GPZ 1100 back in '89, and he had numerous crashes with it, even ended up in a river once. He rode my scooter once, drunk as sh*t, and totaled it. He's an alcoholic, his driver's license got taken away, and he's pretty wild, as in doesn't know when to stop speeding. Also, my friend crashed in front of me yesterday. He almost killed himself, and now I'm scared sh*tless, since, I've been riding since I was 12, and crashed only once, and it wasn't my fault. Some guy rear-ended me, and I was on a sh*tty 35 years old Tomos Automatic. What should I do? I told him, but he just f*cked me off. I'm off to work in a couple of hours, and I'll be gone for a few days, so just, fill this topic with advices, please. Rebel
Wait, does he still have his drivers license taken off of him? If its still revoked you should just call the police. I know its your dad and all but if you say he's as dangerous as he is when he's riding especially when he can't control himself when drinking then he's a danger to not only himself if he gets on the thing but to other people on the road/paths. It may be a little extreme but at least you know then that he won't be able to use it. Then again, he'd also be looking at jail time or a fine or whatever else depending on where you live and the laws.
Gundog
Well, he never hurt anyone else but himself. He told me he'll get his license soon. That seems a bit drastic IMO. but thanks nonetheless. Gundog
I hear that everyday, and I don't find it pleasant when I do. Although, I didn't see my dad drink for a month now, and he's been riding flawlessly for a few days now. Hope he changed for the better, or I swear I'll smash that bike. Oh, and he said he'll buy a Honda 1000 CBX, or a Benelli 750. Well... let's just hope he pays for the damage he did to my moped, and I'll let him be. At least he always wears a helmet and Kevlar gloves/boots Edited July 2, 2009 by Gundog You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and exploring itself. •Rapidoh
So he is actually on the road without a license?
Gundog
Sort of. He doesn't travel far, I mean, he travels about 40 miles altogether. In a circular radius. chris
So say for example he hit a young teenage driver and f*cked his/her car up, your dad doesnt have insurance so it would mean the teenager would have to make a claim on his/her insurance making it skyrocket despite already being stupid high. Sounds like a prick if you ask me, lets hope he hits a wall rather then somebody else.
Rocketkiller
He can still be insured without a license, it's just that the insurance company won't know he had his license taken away. Then if he crashes his policy would be void but the other driver would still be covered by both insurance companies.
chris
It doesnt work like that in England.

I was a passanger on Suzuki Marauder Vz800 and it was fawkin awsome. The sound is lovely, the speed and adrenaline is brilliant.
Lurch
It doesnt work like that in England. This isn't england. Oh wait, guess it is. @ OP - How's his life insurance policy? This could work out good for you in the end.... Edited July 2, 2009 by Lurch
tuff_luv_capo
I don't see the problem? The guy is a failed contribution to genetics and a future example of natural selection. He takes himself out of the gene pool and in return you get his life insurance money/ willed items. Now if he doesn't leave anything behind when he dies, I'd start pressuring him to do so. Dup
He's one of the reasons I pay silly insurance premiums in the UK and a prime example of why the UK is slowly becoming a burdon on those who go by the rules becasue we end up paying to support the many more than don't give a sh*t. Frankly, if he can afford a brand new motorbike he can afford to clean himself up. If my dad was like this then I'd shop him in. Back in his teens and 20s he probably did this all the time, and tbh back then it was more acceptable and even my Dad has similar takes of biker antics after a skin full etc. I assume you live with your dad alone, and he's a single parent and your mum left him? I'd look at getting him to talk to someone about it as he sounds like he's having a full on crisis.
trip
Since this topic started a few weeks ago - how is he doing? Still keeping the rubber side down? I'm a rider with nearly 25yrs on the street (I don't count my dirtbike years). I am also a beer drinker. Does your father follow the 2 beer rule when riding? If so he should be a-ok. Usually riders mellow with age. I know I have. Back in the day we (me and my girl) used to close the bars, and the first thing we did when we got home was to hop on the bike and go for snacks. I can't tell you how many times we got to the store and just dumped my bike on it's side because I forgot about the kick stand. Although, it is a bit scary if he has had numerous 2 wheeled accidents. That makes me think he doesn't respect the dangers of riding. Then again I have to commend him for being one of the 'get back on the horse' riders. as wrong as it is - i love the feeling of 2 pints of pale ale and a bike ride. i don't do it much My crappy games at MyCrappyGames.com Free copy of Save The Puppies and Kittens
Fozzy Fozborne
I cannot believe people are actually suggesting that removing his father "from the gene pool" is seriously a benefit to him. Even if his father isn't the most responsible person in the world, it's extremely insensitive to suggest that Gun's life will be bettered by him dieing. Even if he's reckless, he's still his father and you people should have more common decency!
Gundog
Sorry. I was at work for quite a while there. Good news any ways. He was pulled over and got his bike taken away. Thank God, and everyone else here for helping. You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and exploring itself.
chris
It was a godsend the police got him and he never injured himself or others, maybe you could suggest he gets his motorbike and licence all legit and cuts down on the drinking and riding like tripmills said two pint rule.
