Reflections on cars

Recommended Posts

I noticed in some videos on youtube that reflections on cars and some specific metal surfaces are not the same in PC version like they are in xbox360 version, even with high graphic settings on PC. All taxis and police cars look shiny on xbox360, while on PC they look kind of different. Is there a fix to it? I want reflections like the xbox360's because i think they are more realistic.

Its like saying ,apples taste and look different than bananas

For me PC is the only way to go..

So much more options to tweak etc.

Yes even reflection..

Cars shine like mirrors here.

Try the VisualIV mod 0.99 beta if im correct

You can try VisualIV, or you can wait for my mod (Realistic Time Cycle) or you can tweak it yourself with TimecycIV tool, just increase the global reflection and it should be good...

Lollercoaster

Make sure to set Reflection Resolution to Very High...10000000x better than Xbox 360.

As always, the PC wins in every aspect over the pathetic and inferior consoles which can all just tie a stone to their legs and jump off a bridge.

OK here are the pics:

This one is from the xbox360 version, look at the reflections on taxi:

And this one is from the PC version:

You can see that there is almost no reflections at all, color is matte like.

On PC, cars have reflections the same like xbox360 version only when it's raining in game.

I don't actually mind that so much, but i think it would be better if reflections were like the xbox360 ones.

Time of Day, Area, Graphics Settings. All have a pretty drastic roll in the reflections. That does look strange to me though, try waiting for different time of day or drive down to Star Junction.

In general I find the PC reflections significantly more detailed.

They are, if I slide them all the way up (max out the Reflection Resolution) it's very detailed and 'sharp'. It depends on what kind of PC you run the game.

Xbox360 reflections (and graphics in general) will be superior if you play the game on a washingmachine... if you play it on a NASA like supercomputer you can expect some mindblowing graphics.

if you want the same looks as on xbox 360, just turn all the graphic settings down.. smile.gif

Hah, fanboy. That would turn off reflections.

Anyway, it's kinda obvious that they're better on the PC, since the hardware supports better graphics, but in your case, you would need to pump the slider up for better reflections.

Reflections, better? Is that so...

I dunno anything of the Xbox 360 version, but the reflections on the PC are made up with cubes. I can't really explain this, just check this picture out:

You can clearly see that the reflections on the glass and on the road is much better, than what you can see on the car. It's made up of tiny squares. (Yes reflection was increased in timecyc.dat) These are very high reflection resolution...

Yes i have reflections like that on some cars, like pmp600, presidente, turismo, infernus etc... but on taxis and police cars reflections don't exist, except if it's raining.

I think rockstar games removed the "shiny reflections" from some cars on PC version.

Rockstar Toronto

On PC we were able to have different effects for different classes of car and dirt levels which is why on some cars like Romans Taxi you will not see the reflections you would see on an Infernus for example.

And the "blocks" are just the resolution of the reflection. It maps like a bitmap, and conforms to a certain pixel space like textures.

Well I think we all just got "PWNED" by Rockstar Toronto there wink.gif . Like many others on here I too had noticed some cars were "more" shiny, never bothered me all that much. But it is great to get a bit of information on why there is a difference. It makes sense really a naff old taxi cab isn't going to be as reflective as an expensive sports car.

I personally would have never have thought about the fact the car classes would have different strength reflections and it is just another example of how much detail has gone into this game and especially the PC version.

On medium texture detail there is really no difference between low and very high reflection resolutions. But once you pump up the other graphics you will notice that they are great.

For one thing, you won't expect a run-down, beat up Sabre to be as shiny as a just-detailed/pimped out ride. If only that Boris B. would've made his ENBSeries DLL read the vehicle class IDE files... After all, you would crave for better SA or IV graphics, but you don't want to see rusty vehicles having a wet shiny look.

Hell yea, and love and dedication. RT's post in here has really solidified my belief that they put a lot more love and effort in this game than a lot of people net-wide give them.

Thanks Rockstar Toronto, for continuing support, for doing a great job, for not flippin' out and instead stayin cool as a Rockstar in the face of the vocal minority. Sessler should do a soapbox about you guys wink.gif

I believe teh PC version sports better/more advanced shaders to create beliavable color tone and color surface properties without the need to resort to heavy use of specular strength to cover the "flaw". Hence they have given the colors and color type their right type of characteristic versus real-life.

As for reflections by the cubemaps I assume (dont know though how many sides they are made up of) medium is 512x512 and should be equal to console version, high is 1024x1024 and very high is 2048x2048 res. Most noticable as the reflections on cars are much sharper and have less jaggies aswell as wet surfaces are much more detailed.

Here is the very high reflections showcased on wet surface.

Well, if you want your car shiny take it to the carwash. And the reflections don't last forever, if you pick up a shiny car, drive around a bit and it will become dusty...

Salut.

Edit: Two pics i took some time ago with reflections on very high, but the rainy weather increases reflection intensity as well:

Ok thank you all for your answers, i think RT made it clear... The reflections are not the same on all cars, and that makes sense (depending on car class and amount of dirt on them). I just wanted to know why are all cars on xbox360 so "shiny" biggrin.gif.

Greetings
