Slamman
Think of this thread like the OD thread in car chat. I just got done with a AVG scan that took JUST over 3 hours with 269,000 files give or take...actually add. Thing I'd like to informally poll is how long it takes you to scan your computer, or the longest time it's taken, precisely. You know my stats^ AVG is GriSoft's free AntiVirus, though they make more robust charge-for editions, I made a typo with the name, It happens Edited July 2, 2009 by Slamman

AVIs can scan files? And all this time I thought it was a video file format, silly me.
Otter
Are you talking about virus scans? Come right out and say it next time, please. I honestly don't know how long my scans take. They run overnight. Me thinks this is yet another "Slamman is off his medication" thread.

Slamman
I don't flame Otter in PM, we got off on the right foot and landed on the wrong one! hahaha I was talking about scanning viruses, just the complete C drive. It would be interesting to note with the Terabyte drives out now

Cursed
I've got a Terabyte drive, but it doesn't take that long. I never really take any notice so I don't know exactly.

asimov
My virus scan takes a very long time because I have lots of files I don't know exactly how long it takes because it is on at night and that is everything I know about the virus scan on my home computer
SWEETSAPRIK
It's going to be different for everyone, based on quite a few factors. The program doing the scan, in some cases the type of scan, the size of the drive, the amount of used space on the drive, the drive's speed, etc. My old PC has a drive that's about 200GB, and when almost full it takes a little more than an hour and a half to scan. My new PC has a drive that's about 700GB and even though it has almost twice the data on it it takes less than an hour, usually around 30-45 minutes. That's using Avira AntiVir free on both, with the heuristics turned all the way up. Some other factors, new PC has a [email protected] and 8GB of RAM, versus a Pentium [email protected] with 512MB of RAM. Also, Snap, Tom owns that ass. PяopagaиdaIиc. Otter
Not to mention fragmentation. After a defrag, my scan run nearly twice as fast. Of course, I tend to leave it for a long time without a defrag, so there's that, too.
Slamman
That's why you spell out the details, not just the time it took. That way people have some comparative idea. It's not that hard if you do like I did, a fairly loaded but small drive, with a familiar free tool, I had the results screen I took the info from
