Sixdust
Recently, I have started liking drum n' bass, along with all the other genres of music I like. Can anyone recommend some good songs or artists that are Drum and Bass oriented. I have already found Pendulum and some Small DJs. Youtube videos would be great. Daint
Definitely recommend Chase & Status; Noisia are great too, here's one of their mixes.
Mister Pink
Dude chase & Status have carved themselves into the Dubstep genre mainly expecially Eastern Jam. That aint D&B at all. Sixdust, hardcore D&B fans will tell you Pendulum aren't D&B. They used to be but adobted a new pop style. They're still great though. Try some Jungle (Drum & Bass formely known as Jungle) or.. if you are just getting into the genre. Get the Dum & Bass Arena compilations. Sixdust
Thanks for the recommendations. As for Pendulum, they were just the first name I thought of. I am trying to get into the genre, and have listened to random songs at a party before.
Mister Pink
You're welcome. Those tracks may not be your cup of tea but D & B wouldn't be my first choice of electronica. Fairplay to ya. It's always good to explore new genres. I only got more in to Drum & Bass about 2 years ago. Before I listened to any electronica sure it was basically just classic rock, lol. Keep looking about and I'm sure you'll find your particular style you like. RUBBΣR░J♢HNNY (スオッ)

numdmind
Check out Limewax, Dylan, Counterstrike, Donny, Current Value, SUV, Subfocus... You know what, I'll just give you this link - Juno Records They've got a broad selection of music, it's where I get my records from. You can preview everything there really easily so you can see what you like. Plus, they've got it organized really well and you can check out the newest releases. Also, if you like, we got a live Drum & Bass/Dubstep internet radio thing going on Sunday nights, but I don't know how they feel about self-promotion on this forum so if you're interested and it's allowed on here let me know. We've got myself and two other regular DJ's plus a guest every couple of weeks.

numdmind
Yeah, New Forms is a good album. I've got about half of it on vinyl myself, though I'd never play em out at a party...maybe at like 4 in the morning, but not when things are getting dark around 1:30. snowcloud
Drum and Bass is a very varied genre. While most people think it's been around only since the mid-1990s it's actually arguably a product of 1980s rave and ambient music. Stage 1: Ragga Jungle/Rave/Toytown 1990-1995 From 1989, Rave beats started to become much more complicated as the tempo's began to rise. Dance music split off into three directions. The first was mainstream house and techno, the other was hardcore (in Europe) and the third was Ragga Jungle. Ragga Jungle contains most of the elements we see in Drum and Bass today. Fast tempo of 160-180 bpm, dominating basslines and MCing. It has a much stronger Jamaican feel, and has direct ties with Dance Hall and Reggae. For this genre I recommend: Lion Man, Splash, Jiggsy King, Chuckleberry, Roger Robin, Rogue Unit, X Project, House Crew, A Guy Called Gerald, Urban Shakedown, 2 Bad Mice, Shy FX. Also, if you have Liberty City Stories - listen to MSX 98. Stage 2: Intelligent Dance Music/Dark Core/Jungle Music 1993-1998 Ambient musicians during the early 1990s began warping and raping beats, utilizing new digital technology to create random sounding rhythms and melodies. This type of Jungle focuses less of Jamaican influences such as toasting and brings in more western influences such as trance like melodies and rolling pads and basslines. The XL beat became much more prominent during this period, and shaped all future renditions of Drum and Bass. I recommend: Omni Trio, Renegade, Foul Play, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Hyper on Experience, Origin Unknown, Aphrodite, Adam F. Stage 3: Drum n Bass, Jump Up, Techstep 1995-2001 1995 was the year that Drum and Bass became massive in the media, and the term Jungle began to drop off the radar. The music itself became much more simplified and repetitive, much like the rest of the current electronic dance scene. Jump Up was a sub genre of DnB that featured little more than a repeating bass loop and an XL beat. During this time, the underground scene began to focus more on darker and more moody sounds. This in turn gave birth to genres like Neurofunk, a fusion of electro and jungle. By 2001, Drum and Bass had diminished in mainstream popularity but the underground scene was still strong. Also during the late 1990s, 2 Step Garage was heavily influenced by the XL rhythms of drum and bass. I recommend: Goldie, Bad Company, DJ Hype, Moving Shadow Records, EZ Rollers, Teebee, Calyx. Stage 4: Liquid Funk, Hardcore Breaks, Trancestep, Breakcore 1999-2007 The Drum and Bass scene resurfaced somewhat in 2005 with the release of Pendulum's Hold Your Colour, which was a relatively dull album compared to what was underground at the time. Liquid Funk is a subgenre which blends Disco and House with Drum and Bass to give a smooth and more party friendly sound. Trancestep is a faster and more beat driven version of Electro Pop, and sounds quite 80s. Hardcore Breaks (and Darkstep) uses modern digital computer sequencing to return to the original early 1990s sounds of oldskool rave. Breakcore is an anti-music movement that peaked a couple of years ago which is extremely abrasive and non-accessible to most listeners, sounding more like a wall of noise. I recommend: High Contrast, London Elektricity, John B, Lynx, Venetian Snares, Electrosoul System, Roni Size, Logistics, Beagle. Stage 5: Breaking the Mold - Dubstep, Electrostep, Techno DnB etc... 2006 onwards. Drum and Bass's popularity has been weaning since the mid-2000s so naturally the underground artists are trying to take the genre into a new direction. In the past few years some interesting new sounds have appeared, most notably Dubstep which is a British genre combining UK Garage, Glitch and Drum and Bass. Electrostep is a possible name for a new type of Jungle that combines the analogue driven basslines and thick melodies from Electro House and speeds them up to a drum and bass beat. In the next few years, I expect a nostalgia movement to bring back the early Jungle sounds, so expect some oldskool rave influences in future drum and bass tracks. I recommend: Hex72, Burial, Fionn Hodgson, D9, Noisia, Feed Me, Deadmau5, Spor.
